I like these types of lights but if the LED that these have are this crazy blue colour, I would pass

    • Guessing these won't have mode memory either, every time you turn on will cycle to next mode.

    • If it's the same one I have, it isn't a blue light

  • I bought a similiar one but a bit longer from last $15 off eBay deal for $1.45, it is so much better than expected.

  • Price error ? Seems to be too cheap

  • +4

I have the same 18650 batteries as in the photo and they didn't last at all for my doorbell.

    • I purchased these 20 seconds too late… Haha. Cheers i'll cancel. cant be bothered with the returns.

  • +5

1200mah is absolutely not high capacity for an 18650. It's probably the lowest capacity possible.

    • +4

And they are probably not even 1200mAh either.

  • Can this torch take normal AAs?

    • +3

      NO, 18650

    • +1

      AA size equivalent is 16500
      .

      • +2

        14500

        • oops, my memory has failed me
          .

    • This is a generic and common torch, if you have the connector/adapter it usually is a 3x AAA as it requires 4+ volts to operate, or you could makeshift something metal/tape up the 3 batteries together and add some springs so the contacts touch and use it that way but 18650 lithium are superior. i'm using my torch with my 10 years+ salvaged 18650 laptop battery pack

Thanks, bought two sets. One for cars, one for kids

    • +1

      two sets

      So total 6 torches?

      • +3

        three cars, three kids

    • Bought one set just because you said for car.

  • +3

    1200mAh is not High Capacity

    • +2

At least its honest, not 5000000 mah

  • I'll give them a try

  • Bought a set simply because Amazon return/refund process is pretty good. I wouldn't buy it if this is ebay, banggood or Ali

    • I like ebay and banggood recently. Ebay has easy returns now with the new system with automatic return process and banggood has pretty good warranty for a defect i received. Ali is always YOLO

  • +4

If you've ever used one of these you'll know they are absolute trash. Wouldn't even take it for free.

    • -2

      You give me for free?

I bought this for $1.45 from last eBay deal, it is very good a lot better than expected.

People said the same as you did.

      • +2

Glad you're happy with it, but it is far from being "very good".

        • but it is far from being "very good".

You bought it from that deal?

        • I got one from that deal also. For $1.45 it is "very good".

Not very good for $15, but not utter junk like some.

Best torch I've ever bought for around that price.

          • @iDroid:

but not utter junk like some.

Yeah for the quality only not "very good" may be "OK" to "Good"

But I won't call it junk, those people that called it junk but they don't own it just like they said the same from last deal.

May be some really junk but not this one.

    • +6

      I'd agree with this.

I had a few of these cheap torches and they ended up in landfill eventually because they were just rubbish. I'd suggest something like Convoy or Fenix if you can stretch the budget to cover this as well as some good Samsung 30Q or LG HG2 batteries to complement.
      https://convoy.aliexpress.com/store/330416?spm=a2g0o.search0…

I've had a few Convoy flashlights and Samsung batteries for over 3 years with no issues and the batteries hold almost their full charge. The batteries included in the ozbdeal above probably aren't actually 1200mah either if you test them. I bought some cheap "5000mah" batteries when I got into flashlights and when I tested these they were around 900mah each (and I'm sure the cells quickly deteriorate). Also, cheap lithium batteries seem like a bad idea when you see how violently they can explode:
      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WnZuMfq6kec

yes, I understand that this person pierced the battery, but heat also causes explosions and these torches aren't regulated so that's a very real possibility.

    • ? these are generic, you can buy from kmart or reject shop. they are really good for the price, since are LED too

  • +1

Just wondering if a torch expert can help me. I'm on the lookout for a torch for an elderly person to find their way to the loo at night.

No zoom, no power levels and rather dim. Just a torch that is easy to grip and has one button. Any thoughts?

    • +3

Would night lights work out better?

I’ve installed these lights at the old folks recently and works for them. Stuck in some eneloop and going great so far eufy Lumi Stick-on Night Light T1301H21

      • Get night lights to illuminate along to the loo

    • +2

for an elderly person to find their way to the loo at night.

I think an night light is better

      https://www.mi-store.com.au/xiaomi-mi-motion-activated-night…

      • Thanks both. I did try a Xiaomi night light a couple of years ago and they hated it. May be things have changed now…

        • Xiaomi night light a couple of years ago and they hated it.

Why they hated it? auto on auto off.

The Lumintop EDC01 is great little single AA torch, though it is very compact but maybe they'd prefer something bigger. Twist on/off. Only requires slight twist of head, but again maybe button is preferred. It does have 3 power levels, but remembers the last used one (mid is plenty for moving about at night)

      • A good torch, but very small as you mentioned. A bit too fiddly for an elderly person, especially the twist action required to turn the torch on and off. A simple side button would be better for this purpose.

    • Or even something like this (which actually works really well): https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/233820229577?hash=item3670c58fc9:g:XDQAAOSwol5Yyj0L\

    • I'm tempted to recommend Convoy c8+ and a diffuser. You'll need to get an 18650 battery and charger. It does have one button on the side (I think it's superior to end buttons) which is programmable but simple.

      https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000644636970.html?spm=a2g0o…
      https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005001400455356.html?spm=a2…

For ease, since AA batteries are readily available, the Sofirn SP10S is an option. I would recommend a diffuser as they spread out light nicely.

      https://www.aliexpress.com/wholesale?catId=0&initiative_id=S…

    • Nitecore NU32 would be my choice. It's a headlamp (hands free), small and light, very dim at the lowest setting (just 1 Lumen), and has red light mode which protects night vision and would be less disruptive to sleep cycle.

      • +1

I wonder how it would work when pee 😏

    • "rather dim" maybe a halogen globe?
      .

    • +2

Well if you're after the "expert" option, then go for

      https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005003110016944.html

Select 3500k for a warm light and 4500k for a more neutral colour. Incandescent is about 2700k

Next select the colour of the flashlight body. Use this image as reference

Then in the checkout before you pay, in the message for seller option, write:
      "7135x1 one mode only please"

use coupon R52RP3JZ91JT for 15% off

Then the seller will configure it to about 100 lumens with only 1 mode. Note: depending on who you ask, 100 lumens may be too bright especially for night adjusted eyes.

If you missed the purchase note option and ended up paying then just send him a message after you pay and he will configure it for you.

      Charger from the same store:
      https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005003153359141.html

Extra: This is guide is strictly for the one mode requirement. If you don't mind more than 1 mode technically, you can configure it to go even lower than ~100 lumens with no mode memory, meaning that every time you turn on the light it will start at the lowest level, effectively making it "1 mode". Feel free to ask me more about this if you're interested

      • +1

Wow thanks. I need some time to process what you have said.

  • Damn missed it. Looked like a great deal for the price.

    • +6

You missed out on buying junk that would be landfill within months.

Legit torch manufacturers and battery vendors use these types of torches as a host for posting batteries where local regs require Lithium Ion batteries to be installed in a device to be allowed to post.

      • -2

You missed out on buying junk that would be landfill within months.

You bought junks before but doesn't mean this one also junk, let see what they are like in a few days.

        • +3

Like poster above, I wouldn't take these for free - torches or batteries. I would not buy these, I don't need to wait and see. These are junk.

It's like buying a $25 bottle of Elizabeth Arden Red Door from your local chemist and being surprised it doesn't compare well to Chanel N°5. You get what you pay for.

          • @Sillen: Like I expected you didn't own it or test it and called it junk.

            • +1

@superforever: Some people you just can't reach. It's your money, Ralph.

              • @Sillen: I will buy it and test it, if really junk I will return it and let others know I have tested it if really junk instead of never test it and just called it junk that was not a fair comment.

                • +1

@superforever: Wisdom is lived experience. I don't need to buy and test. Any number of regulars here that have more then your average number of torches can spot this type of junk from a mile away. Most are smarter than me and don't bother trying. Adding this experience to my wisdom as will those who waste their money.

                  • +1

@Sillen: I bought this similar one from last deal I can tell you they are not junk, of course can't compare with big brand $100 one but a lot better than those free torch gift I have.

If you won't believe that somebody own it, nothing I can say.

                    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/628891

                    • @superforever: Indeed. I believe the experts call it, "sunk cost fallacy."

                    • +1

@superforever: As for me, I've bought a bunch of cheap zoomies and many mid priced ($20) cheap zoomies from when my peers were still using incan flashlights where my ICE BLUE 2000 LUMEN CREE T6 LED would obliterate them. Zooming in would result gasps of awe.

Anyways yea all unknown LED zoomies are crap and I would agree that they are landfill. I've bought and used about 4 18650 zoomies and 4 14500 zoomies and across many years, all of them used mechanical tail switches with the shoddiest connections which led to a flickery horror movie experience. I remember having to quickly cycle through the mode memorized UI every time before I turned them off, lest I get blinded with strobe mode the next time I used it. The cold blue 9000k+ with probably negative CRI and the flaky anodization were also points to note.

I've taken many apart in hopes that I could improve them somehow but they are simply not built with the intention of lasting. It is this mainly this point and the dodgy switches that I consider them landfill.

                      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/628891

Arrived today OK torch, not as bright as my the other $1.45 one.

                      • @superforever: It have 3 modes like my $1.45 one and can bright up my whole rampus when point up to the ceiling.

      • I have had these for a while now, nothing junk about them. For a small hand torch it's very bright with a strong housing and thick glass lense.

The "good" manufacturers are riding on decades of brand and reputation when there was a tangible difference.

  • +1

Great price, I'll turn these into lightsabers for my kids with bubble wand bottles and glue gun.

    • +1

      And cellophane for colour?
      .

  • Mine arrived today. Very sturdy and bright. Obviously not as good as the $20+ or $50+ torches out there but blood good value at less than $10 for 3 including rechargeable batteries.

    • Yeah, I kept try to tell people that call it junk the same, they are not as good as an expensive one but they are not junk but they won't believe even they have never owned it or played it before.

  • Just got mine, pretty decent for $10. Let's see how long they last

  • Just got mine and super impressed so far.
