Latest gift card deals from Coles.

Terms and conditions:

  • A limit of 5 Gift Cards per customer applies. Offer valid only at Coles Supermarkets (excludes Coles Online, Coles Express and purchases via giftcards.com.au), subject to store availability.

  • To qualify for this offer you must present your Flybuys card at the time of purchase. Whilst stocks last, no rainchecks. Offer valid from 25/08/21 to 31/08/21.

  • BONUS POINTS can be awarded more than once for each Gift Card type including different denominations of the same Gift Card but can only be collected up to 5 times per Flybuys account.

  • Excludes $50 Coles Gift Mastercard Gift Card.

  • When purchasing a $100 Coles Gift Mastercard, a $5 purchase fee will apply in addition to the value of the gift card.

  • When purchasing a $250 Coles Gift Mastercard, a $7 purchase fee will apply in addition to the value of the gift card

Additional notes:

  • 2000 Flybuys Points is equivalent to $10 Flybuys Dollars (which can be redeemed at a number of retailers).

  • Flybuys Points can only be converted into Flybuys Dollars in multiples of 2000.

  • Flybuys Dollars cannot be used for any gift card purchases at Coles.

  • Any purchase of third-party gift cards at Coles supermarkets also earns base Flybuys points; therefore, the number of Flybuys points you earn for each $100 Coles Gift Mastercard is 2105 points (up to 5 gift cards). Once you exceed the 5 gift card limit, you will only earn base Flybuys points.

  • Any purchase of any gift cards at Coles supermarkets will not count towards any bonus Flybuys points offers other than the one mentioned in this deal. In other words, targeted Flybuys offers at Coles (e.g. spend $x in one transaction to earn y points) always exclude any purchase of any gift cards.

  • Scanning your Flybuys card when purchasing third-party gift cards at Coles will usually cause the minimum spend on targeted Flybuys bonus points offers to go up, because that's how Flybuys has set up their algorithm for determining the minimum spend requirement.

  • Coles’ POS system does not allow any split payments for gift cards at self-service checkouts in any circumstances. If you are seeking to do split payments at a checkout, you need to go to a serviced checkout (i.e. either at a checkout with a dedicated staff member who packs your groceries for you, or the service desk).

Time to setup a burner Flybuys account.

But it's a bit of a rubbish deal. $10 worth of points (that you may need to chase) with a $5 to $7 fee.

But, at least you can earn credit card points on bills etc that would normally be excluded.

    • can you set up burner under the same mobile number?

      • +1

Blind reindeer on that one ..ie. no eye dear.

  • Sadly dont shop at coles often, so the flybuys dollars means not much to me, Need the 10% discount upfront like last time without any flybuys card,

Additionally its not even 10% discount on $250 coles mastercard, it is still only 2000 flybuys points aka 10$ worth,

But on the flipside, people may be actually able to grab these because its only $5 discount technically after fees on the $100 Mastercard, because of same reason rewards being locked to Flybuys account

  • +7

    Discount rate is too low.

    • +3

Look on it on the other side. Better a low discount rate than no discount rate at all.

    • -2

20% saving on a gift card sounds very good to me.

      • 20%?!!

        • $50 Kayo gift card earns you $10 in flybuys points.

  • +1

    Ah damm rona

  • For the people who purchased Coles Mastercard gift cards from the recent deal in June, they can use those Mastercards to pay for the new Coles Mastercards in this deal, but the discount from this deal will be in the form of Flybuys bonus points.

Just need to be careful when you use the old Mastercard gift cards from June to pay, you may need a piece of evidence (e.g. a paid receipt) that you have already paid for these gift cards since June. So, the shopkeeper won't misunderstand you carry brand new 10 gift cards and try to use 5 gift cards to pay for the other 5 gift cards.

    • +5

you may need a piece of evidence (e.g. a paid receipt)

Or simply just open the package before coming to the store ?? So you have card in your wallet already.
And BTW as discussed earlier Coles system doesn't allow partial payments on GC's, So you have to use $250 Coles Mastercard GC to pay for these, (i.e. $100 Coles Mastercard GC wont work)

      • so it wont work as u r trying to pay 250$ for a 257.95 item?

      • It will not be activated if you have not paid for it.

      • +4

Coles system doesn't allow partial payments on GC's

Coles system doesn't allow partial payments on GC's at self-service checkouts.

If you want to do split payments for GCs, you need to go a serviced checkout (the checkouts where you have a dedicated person who packs your groceries for you).

        • This, plus you can use egift cards as well. They will say "you can't pay with egift cards".. you say "this is a different type from Virgin Velocity, please just try it and if it fails, we will try something else" (or whatever you feel like saying).

If you convince them to try, it will work, but only on the checkouts with an operator.

          • @tunzafun001: Anyone found that Coles in remote area, they are willing to let you try egift card. When it comes to City or nearby. They won't allow you firmly.

            • @fishes2222: I think it may depend on the store. In my inner-city Melbourne, 1 store will not allow but 2 others do not say anything. It may be whether the Manager enforced the T&C's.

    $100 card makes $5.52 profit
    $250 card makes $4.28 profit

    How is it profit?
    You get credit on flybuys

Shall we continue this discussion? :)

    • So we have a $1750 max investment for $49 .
      Kicks the banks a$$ 2.8 % or 2.66 % after 5% off discount for flybuys pts .
The $100's will be gone fast with all the people with no dough getting excited .

    • $100 card makes $5.52 profit

The activation fee is $5. Where did that extra $0.52 come from?

      $250 card makes $4.28 profit

The activation fee is $7. Where did that extra $1.28 come from?

      • +3

If you look at dot point 4 in my additional notes:

Any purchase of third-party gift cards at Coles supermarkets also earns base Flybuys points.

You will earn 105 base Flybuys points and 2000 bonus Flybuys when you purchase a $100 Coles Gift Mastercard. 2105 Flybuys points is equivalent to $10.52 in Flybuys Dollars. Hence, the difference between the value of the gift card + Flybuys points and the amount you pay for the gift card is $5.52, not $5.

You will earn 257 base Flybuys points and 2000 bonus Flybuys when you purchase a $250 Coles Gift Mastercard. 2257 Flybuys points is equivalent to $11.28 in Flybuys Dollars. Hence, the difference between the value of the gift card + Flybuys points and the amount you pay for the gift card is $4.28, not $3.

        • My bad. I totally missed point (4) under additional notes.

Hey, just to clarify something else - anything other than "Coles Supermarket Gift Card" would be considered third party, right?
I guess I am used to Woolies not offering base points for any gift card purchases. So, kudos to Coles for doing things differently.

          • +4

@DoctorCalculon: No worries, the Additional Notes section has blown out to be a bit of an essay…

Coles sells two types of gift cards:

            • Gift cards issued by Coles Group Ltd

            • Third-party gift cards.

Coles does not issue any Flybuys points when you purchase a gift card issued by Coles Group Ltd. If you are able to check the balance of a gift card here, that gift card was issued by Coles Group Ltd. Examples of these gift cards include:

            • Coles Gift Card

            • Coles Groceries & Returns Gift Card

            • Coles Group & Myer Gift Card.

Coles issues base Flybuys points on all third-party gift cards. Although the Coles Gift Mastercard has Coles branding, Coles classifies it as a third-party gift card, because the issuer for this gift card is Indue Ltd, not Coles Group Ltd.

  • thanks op great deal perfect timing to met the amex bonuses spend requirements. can someone confirm that its indeed up to 5 gift cards per main flybuys account holder not on the additional linked cards?

    • +1

Not on linked cards. You need to get new accounts. Can be instant as you can get a temporary card to print and use when purchasing. New accounts will need their own mobile phone number, although some have said can be the same, but if they ever do data matching could be an issue. Most people on here also use different GC or CC when purchasing with different accounts.

  • +1

these have been out of stock at my local Coles since the last deal.

  • +1

I bought $5,000 worth of $250 cards in the June 10% off deal. I did it in $1,000 lots over five days and each day a different staff member asked me if I had fallen for a scam or told me to read a leaflet about being scammed before they would process them. I explained that I was using it to pay for my groceries over the next few months but they still gave me that look that said they didn't believe me.

Sure hoping that they will bring back the 10% off deal in December.

    • How did you manage to get the cards everyday when most places were clear after day 1 ?

      • They were clear on the gift card stands but most stores still had stock of the $250 cards hidden away elsewhere (sometimes in a locked area behind the gift card stand). If you asked an employee they would say they were out of them but I hassled the Service Desk staff until they opened up their supply and put more out. Even after doing this the first store dried up on the fourth day and I had to go to another store where I spoke with the Manager (who happened to be walking past) and they came back ten minutes later with a huge wad of cards.

        • +3

the store manager and staff all hate you now as you hit their secret stash

  • N00b Question: Are the cards automatically activated after payment?

If this is the case, I could buy the $250 card first, and then go right back in to buy 2x $100 cards using the $250 Coles Mastercard, right?

    • +1

Are the cards automatically activated after payment?

Yes, they are if you buy them at Coles.

A few seconds after you finalise payment, the EFTPOS terminal will show that it has activated the gift cards. You will see on the part of the receipt with information related to the gift card that it also says APPROVED.

As a precaution, you can always check the balance of the Coles Gift Mastercard online to verify that it activated correctly and the funds are available.

I could buy the $250 card first, and then go right back in to buy 2x $100 cards using the $250 Coles Mastercard, right?

      That should work.

Thank you so much @WookieMonster for such diligent and helpful answers.

Not just on this thread, and I note all the other gift card related threads.
        🙏🙌👏

        • +2

No worries! As you can probably tell, gift cards (particularly ones purchased from a retailer) are my specialty / area of interest lol

          • @WookieMonster: I’ve noticed this, and I wonder why you are such keen beans on gift cards?

            • +1

@cloudy: Haha it’s because it’s a good way to eek out extra savings out of your spend.

My AMEX is also not accepted (or is only accepted with a high surcharge) at a lot of the merchants I regularly purchase from, so I particularly like these prepaid gift card deals. I don’t have screen insurance or anything like that with my AMEX and I don’t have boosted points earn rates at specific retailers, so there is very little incentive to spend directly with my AMEX card.

I also don’t really refund many items as part of my everyday spend, so I don’t care if my refund is processed back onto a gift card.

I also like helping other bargain hunters when they are trying to navigate gift card deals, as Coles’ and Woolworths’ POS system and loyalty programs have subtle differences that will easily confuse people. You probably saw that I commented in the recent Apple gift card deal at Woolworths; even though I wrote nearly 10% of all comments on that deal, I did not buy a single Apple gift card (mostly because of lockdowns, plus I did not actually need any Apple gift cards, plus the fact that my local Woolworths stores did not have any stock of Apple gift cards during the entire deal).

              • +2

@WookieMonster: Well yea, I agree the savings are nice. And make use of these deals, and the last few deals I’ve noticed your contributions of knowledge and impressed someone knows so much about the POS of colesworth.

I was thinking you must work in the field of gift cards or POS or something you have some intricate insights.

I for one thank you for contributing, and enjoy reading an expert write about something they know:)

                • +2

@cloudy: Lol I don’t work in the field of gift cards or IT systems, but I can see why you think I do!

A lot of knowledge I have soaked up over the years is due to my own trial-and-error when purchasing gift cards at Coles and Woolworths, plus the knowledge others have shared on this site. It is always a pleasure helping fellow bargainers!

  • does it mean I can get 10,000 pts with 5 cards?

    • +1

It means you get base Flybuys points and 10,000 bonus points for 5 gift cards.

For example, if you buy 5x $100 Coles Gift Mastercards (at $105 each), you will get 10,525 points (525 base points and 10,000 bonus points).

Anyone else not able to generate their temp card with the "replace card" in my account settings?

Tried 3 different phones..all hang on this part..

Coles / flybuys websites really are total Pieces of S…

*Edit - not a $100 giftcard anywhere to be seen! Tried two stores. All $50's and …amazingly $250s galore this time!

  • +1

just called my closest store, none in stock

  • I'm an idiot. Bought 3 $250 cards. The attendant came over for the scam alert thing (which she cleared without discussing with me or handing me anything) then she pressed to go to payment. So I paid and as soon as I finished entering my pin, I realised I didn't scan my flybuys card. She said the front desk could add it, and they did.

Anyone had that happen before? Did you get the points without issue?

    • +2

Not for this promotion, but a similar one. And yes got the points without issue.

      • +1

        Thanks :D

        • +2

          Can confirm. Points arrived.

  • i just wanted to reconfirm that you can purchase all 5 lots of $100 gift cards in the same one transaction and obtain 5 lots x 2000 points ? it doesnt have to be separate transactions per card purchase does it?

    • +3

I bought five gift cards in one transaction in the last Coles Gift Mastercard deal and got all base and bonus Flybuys points.
