    • It completely destroys it

      • More details please :)

        • There's no need for detail. it's like comparing your phone speaker vs that anker speaker.

  • I am having humming sound from by 1010bt's that connected to my TV via AUX especially in the first 5 minutes when I turn the TV on.

Anyone had same problem and find a solution?
I checked all my cables, they seem ok.

fair warning to people into passive speakers here

the P17s are by far one of the worst speakers i've ever heard

granted i think only paid $75 for mine but they have two unforgiveable sins

they are hell to drive… you need a big power amp given they are only 77dB

they sound like shit… really muffled, indistinct, terrible

are they worth $50? yeah I guess, they have amazing build quality but i think the main cone woofer is no good

if you're really into cheap hifi spks you're better off waiting until digital cinema has some deal going on

I bought their JBL Arena spks and its really no contest.

It sounds like Edifier did no testing on their speakers. They just slapped in the cheapest cone and soft dome and boxed it.

    • Out of interest what kind of amp did you use to drive them. That really makes a lot of difference. Just asking, I don't have these speakers but have seen bad speakers sound decent with a good amp.

      • +1

this is what i have an sometimes rotate for fun

onkyo 575 80w ht amp ($400 ozbb special)

        parasound 120w thx power amp

        jungson 120w power amp

        marantz 100w thx receiver

if i juice it with say the parasound its sound decent… but then you're compensating for poor design with a good amp

again, with the jbl arenas i got, they absoluetly slaughter with any amp

          Thanks for replying.
I did end up buying a pair, couldn't resist at that price.
I'll hook them up to my custom 320w Toshiba chip based transistor amp, 300w NEC chip based transistor amp, and cheap legend (modded) Lepai 2020a+
See how they go with these.
          Cheers

        • Good on you mate, you must love these amps or just a compulsive OZB like me lol..

        • So I got them, listening to them on my power amp. You're right, have to crank them up due to the 77db rating, but I am impressed that it has even any low end at this small size, but it's there!

For rear surround speakers, they're an absolute steal! Decent soundstage.
I understand surround amps allow for individual channel level adjustment, so this shouldn't be an issue.

  • so many choices.
Which one here would be a good upgrade from a Sony Smart TV speaker?

Or is there any other good budget options.

  • Are these speaker good for bedroom TV or should I get a soundbar? Which model should I get?

    • +2

Soundbars dont deliver stereo sound (or at least not very well). But size is a restriction generally for those looking for a soundbar. Under the TV/monitor vs on either side.

e.g. I have a triple monitor setup, and putting the speakers so far to the side is just not an option. So it depends whether you have the space for it, and if you do, in general these should be much better than an equally priced soundbar.

  • Edifier R1580MB sold out

  • +1

They were on sale the other week and I didn’t notice an Ozb post. I picked up the s3000pro for $685 or something like that.

  • R12U is sold out unfortunately

  • I don't understand why these are so popular. I had to return a set of Edifier R1280DB because they sounded wrong. It hurt to listen too. Based on some research this is a know fault, but not only for R1280DB. Even the trebble and bass knobs felt stiff and cheap.

    What am I missing here?

    • +1

They are cheap and look kinda cool, an oz bargainers wet dream. Most people aren't audiophiles.

    • I'm definitely no audiophile. The closest thing I have to good equipment is a set of AD700 headphones. My speakers are microlab SOLO6C. I've never owned an amp unless my PC onboard audio counts.

  • Passive speakers, NOT Bluetooth!

  • Edifier R12U Active USB Powered Multimedia Speaker System is OOS

  • Received the Edifier R1580MB, impressed with the quality for $69, bass could be better(though good enough for no sub), not like its a cinema room setup.
    but overall would buy again
