Damn, been holding out for the R1280DBs to go on sale.
Seems everything except these are haha.

    • I mistakenly ordered the 1280t the other day not realising they weren't the Bluetooth model. By the time they get back to Amazon I'm hoping the db model goes on sale.

    • +1

The R1280DB's are amazing. The sound is so detailed and balanced.

      • +1

Second this. I have R1280DBs connected to a sub. Loving music, games and movies.

        • +1

What sub would you recommend to go with the R1280DBs?

          • +1

@azngamer: Depends on the size of your room and your budget. I bought an 8" Q Acoustics 3060S, mostly for the slim form factor so I cold slide it behind my cabinet under my desk. It's more than enough for my room/office which is about 20 square metres - punches decently low enough to feel it in my chest without disturbing the rest of the house. People recommended I buy 10 inch or 12 inch, but I'm glad I didn't. For near field listening at a PC desk, it's perfect. If the Q acoustics isn't in your price range, check out the Yamaha Ns-sw050 100w 8" on ebay. Generally go for pretty cheap and a great starting sub.

            • @ifreddo: Sorry for the late reply, but where is the sub output for R1280DB? Tried the back of the speakers but no sub output

              • +1

@azngamer: I was referring to the r1280DB's' model. The updated model with the sub out.

                R1280DB - old model
R1280DBs - new model with sub out

      • how different do they sound from the R1010BT ?

    • If you don't need optical/coax input why not the 1580? They probably sound the same

      • "They probably sound the same" Lol. Nice technical comparison.

        • +2

What do you expect from same manufacturer and same price range?
The few reviews I found online say the they are identical, except for connectivity

    • how's is this model's performance being used as a centre speaker?

  • FYI: R1010BT was $45 on prime day (and 12% cashback)

    • Yeah I got them and was too slow with this deal to get more as I want them for parts to make some older speakers cool again without an amp and then use the drivers for a new set of TV speakers.

I guess 2 sets of the 1580s will do me.

  • +10

Just curious, why ozers only post edifier? I feel I see these speakers all the time. No other brands?

    • +2

Just a guess but maybe others aren't on special as much? I have a pair of the 1700s as my PC speakers and am so happy with their price/performance ratio, really impressed

      • +1

I'm hanging out for a 1700 deal, they look like my perfect WFH PC speakers.

    • +6

There is a lack of quality computer speakers brands on the market these days. Mostly Edifier and Logitech these days and I don't like the sound on Logitech speakers. Altec Lansing pulled out long ago and Creative seem to be on their way out too. A few years ago I would not have considered Edifier but they seem to be OK these days. Might still look at Audioengine for my next set though.

    • +3

If you can find something on par or better than edifier at the same price.

    • +4

The great price to sound quality market is abysmal, it's either edifier to, you're suddenly jumping up several hundred or even thousands of dollars for something significantly better.

And deals are seldom in the audiophile market. And the fact is, not all of us are that hardcore into it, we just want great speakers that don't destroy the wallet.

  • Would any of these be suitable for my desk for pc gaming? i'm concerned with latency

    • +6

Typically you're plugging these in via 3.5mm headphone jack to your PC, and that's a good, old, analogue, speed-of-electricity-in-a-wire system with no lag/latency.

If your PC had a Bluetooth output, and you connected up via that, then you might get some latency, so don't do that.

Not sure if any of these have digital inputs (TOSLINK optical or coaxial), but those might have a little more lag, depending on the DAC in these speakers.

In short - connect up via 3.5mm cable and you should be fine.

      • +2

All of these have Class-D amplifiers. Assuming those Class-D amplifiers are using digital input, you might actually get more latency from the 3.5mm input vs the TOSLINK digital input, as the 3.5mm input would have to first go through an ADC. That said, the latency we're talking about here is on the order of micro-seconds, certainly nothing anyone would notice.

      • I am gonna ask you a weird question. Once you connect Bluetooth speakers like this to the pc do you use the dac of motherboard or is there one on the speaker?

        • +2

Bluetooth audio sends over the air as a compressed digital audio signal, so the speaker/earphone has a DAC.

    • +2

If you plug these into your pc directly latency shouldn't be an issue but don't use BT for gaming. I got Bluetooth only speakers and the latency on them is pretty bad

  • +1

Anyone know how these compare to Creative Pebble V3? Want to downsize my computer speakers wondering how small to go.
    https://au.creative.com/p/speakers/creative-pebble-v3

    • +3

I have the Pebbles, they are good for USB powered speakers. Do not even compare to Edifiers. Zero bass.

      • overall which speaker is better?

  • +15

I don't need these, I've never needed these but I swear I see it so much my temptation to buy them increases everytime

    • buy once and it shall tempt you no more

      • +3

Edifier's are the new Eneloops, you'll always be tempted to buy more

        • I didn't say you wouldn't be tempted to buy more speakers, only the same model, but you will keep upgrading XD

      • Liar…

  • Would any of these suit outdoor use? I'm looking for something to install undercover about 2m high. Bluetooth would be best to connect directly to our devices.

    • +2

If the area is dry then you might get a couple of years out of them. The cabinets are only MDF so moisture (even just humidity) will eventually get in and destroy it.

      • Area is dry but yes, this was my concern so thanks.

        • +1

plastic outdoor speakers arent that expensive anyway…. you usually see them at altronics or whatever for $200 a pair but those need an amp

          • +1

@tonyjzx: Ya reckon a wrapping of contact might get me a few more years out of these outdoors? I don't think you'd get so much moisture being undercover and a couple of metres up as you would around ground height.

            • @[Deactivated]: Plastic contact reminds me of wrapping those book covers back in school!
I don't see why that wouldn't work with a bit of water resistant tape to seal any gaps, pretty cool idea

      • +1

Outdoor cold dewy condensation would definitely destroy it but for the cheap price might be worth trying out for fun. It you could diy wrap it in some kind of plastic casing that could possibly prolong its life.

Edifiers on special, what next Sydney and Melbourne in extended lockdown ;-)

    • +2

      what next

Sydney and Melbourne will beat each other by 10% (lock down extension).

      • +3

Melbourne has a lot of work to do to beat Sydney this time🤔

        • +1

We are a nation of under dogs.

        • By the looks of things they want their records back! I mean I’m from Sydney and I’d be happy to just give them the records

          • +2

@Gunnar: Same… but at the same time, I don't believe Melbourne deserves to win this time.

            • @ATangk: Definitely not

              • +9

@Gunnar: “We’re going to win so much that you’re going to be sick and tired. You’re going to say, ‘Please, please, Mr. President Mrs Premier, we’re sick and tired of winning. Please let us have at least one loss. It’s no longer exciting to win.’ And I’m going to say, ‘No way, we’re going to keep winning, and I don’t care if you like it or not.’”

                Donald J. Trump, 2016 Gladys Berejiklian, 2021

                • +1

@ATangk: Hahahaha this post wins Ozbargain. That is brilliant!

  • Would any of these work as casual living room speakers? I want something I can sync up to my smart home stuff but currently have no speakers (and no TV but that's coming soon…i hope)

    • The 1580s or the 1010s would work nicely. Really good bang for your buck

    • As long as it's a small living room, and you are not after bass.

  • Edifier R1580MB or Edifier R1100 I cant decide

    • +1

Not sure if it's marketing fluff, but the R1580MB has lower frequency extension vs the R1100.

      • +2

I ended getting the R1580MB since it has Bluetooth, might come handy

        • Good choice. R1580MB is also suitable for karaoke

  • +2

    Holding out for the R1700BTs

  • I already have an amp and sub (jbl $99 wireless sub hack)
Is there a similar priced set of decent passive speakers to add on

    • The P17 are passive.

      • are they good for home theatre 2.1? to be used as the primary speakers
the description seems to suggest use them as surrounds in a 5.1 7.1 setup :(

        • +2

Depends on your home theatre and your budget. For $50, Edifier P17 is the best money can buy

        • +1

They'll work good for 2.1 but don't expect much bass, maybe some light punch, but you have the sub for bass.

  • Finally got one. Not needed really so was going on Marketplace just to browse.
With this price, got this new and delivered. Thanks heaps OP.

Any set up to $100 recommended for PC music/gaming? Must not be one of the listed here

  • Hi ozbargain experts, could you please let me know why I'm buying this for? thanks

    • +1

It's the only real way to separate yourself from the eshayyyyyyyys brah. Oh. And username checks out.

  • Would anyone know if these are good / recommend them for a vinyl player? I bought an entry level Audio Technica record player and was thinking of hooking it up to a bluetooth speaker but wouldn't mind some nice looking desk speakers.

  • The R1010BTs are insane value for money at this price.

For those planning to use at the computer desk, just note that these are quite tall, so take that into account if you have monitor arms/dual monitors.

    • If only they didnt come in ugly brown.

  • Any recommendations of computer speakers that are small, affordable and look good? Don't really care about sound quality as much

    • Small.. look good.. Audioengine A1? Not affordable tho

      • +1

this is pretty much the reason why edifier gets so much OzB exposure, as much as I want to push audioengines, the jump from sets costing 1 - 200 to 500+ is hard to swallow.

        • Yeah I agree.. the only reason I haven't gone down the path of edifier is cause I find them to be god-awful ugly, and thats a problem since I plan on having it on my desk.

      • I really like the look of the A2+ (think a lot of 'productivity' desk youtubers have these). But yeah too expensive. Wish there was something under 100 with similar look and size

    • +1

      Highly recommend these:

      https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005002565471952.html

~$12.00 and have great sound. Small, compact, look good and perfect for the non-audiophile's PC. I was really surprised how good they are for the price, I gave them the Bohemian Rhapsody test and they passed with flying colours.

Depends if you want to wait for delivery from China.

      • Wow, these look great! What's the cable distance between each speaker? The problem with my current Logitech Z150 speakers is that the distance between them is too short

        • +1

I am sorry but I am away from home until Friday so won't be able to measure exactly. But as a guide I am sure I have them neatly aligned under against the edges of my 24 inch monitor - outer edge of monitor in line with outer edge of speaker. A quick Google search says that is about 57cm.

          • +1

@cheapskatez: Thanks that's very helpful appreciate it. Looks pretty clean, I especially like the white ones, don't think it'll work for me though as I have dual screen setup and want speakers on either side

            • +1

@spammingb: Yep .. you will have to put the speakers towards the middle otherwise. For anyone else these are definitely great speakers to consider if you are on a small budget.

              • @cheapskatez: Wow they look nice and so cheap too. Did you get a chance to compare the sound with any other speakers?

      No

    • thanks OP - got the R1010BT for $34

  • Great price, so tempting, bought one. Will use it somewhere. Thanks OP

  • +2

Long time OzB first time Edifier.
    Thanks OP!

  • +1

Would one of the passive speakers work to replace a centre speaker on a surround system?

    • Should work fine, the only difference is the shape.

  • +1

do the Edifier R1010BT 2.0 Bluetooth Bookshelf Speaker also include the wires for 3.5mm jack ?

    • +1

Yes. 2xRCA to 3.5mm female in the box.

  • Currently have a Yamaha RX-V385, utilising the old tower speakers, center speaker, and one of the subwoofers from an ooooold Sony Muteki 7.2 surround set (This here) - Would any of these Edifier's suffice to replace?

I've tried looking into this, and although I am of tech sound mind, the audio stuff eludes me…

Thank you in advance for input!

    • +1

      Not an expert but no.

  • Guys, how is it compared with the Anker?
