  • Yes very very limited in stock.

The product made by electric power company……

Cheapest way to burn your house down. Really wouldn't recommend these kinds of heaters in any situation. If you can't get decent heating installed (or demand it from your landlord), go for an oil heater.

    • +1 for this comment, they are actually really dangerous.

      • looks like two people negged me to counter your +1. Maybe their houses burned down.

      • +1

I'll +1 this as well. These are horrible and yeah, as drayton95 says, actually dangerous.

    • +1

      Because?
I got one a while back to use as a bathroom heater.

I do have ducted heating and oil fin one for other uses but if I wanted something cheap and quick to heat the bathroom or the loo while in there it seems perfectly fine to me.

      • +4

Because they use a filament that glows hot and, in combination with the fan, produces an extremely dry heat. It's a deadly combination if a piece of paper or clothing makes its way in there - and they also generate enough direct, dry heat that they can cause fires if placed too close to furniture, curtains etc.

For the bathroom, you would be much better off getting heat lamps installed. Much safer.

      • +2

How long do you spend in the loo for it to require heating? Even a 15 minute snailer surely wouldn't warrant heating.

  • Need to add $3 for click and collect

  • +3

Just a heads up for those unfamiliar, this will add around ~$1 per day to your power bill depending on use.

    • +2

$0.60 per hour when on full (@$0.30/KwH).

    • $1 a day would be a minimum, as it would be only just over an hours use.

This high cost issue would be true for all electric heaters except heat pump units.

  • They are still selling these?

Colour me surprised, I actually used to have one of these and was extremely cautious on how I used it, which was probably for the best as it (profanity) caught on fire..
And no I never let it run for long periods and it always was in an open area so there was absolutely no restriction to air flow.

Luckily I'd only ever turn it on when I was right next to it so I could monitor it for that exact reason.

Honestly I can't recommend anyone to ever use this type of heater as they are extremely dangerous.

    • +4

oh wow, I thought people actually wrote profanity in place of their swear words, but no the system does it for you… lol

      • +2

(profanity) me dead, you're right……when did that start?

        • +1

I'm going to (profanity) test this

          • @tee123: Want to test this shit as well

            • @sigplay: Funny how shit doesn't trigger it but subjectively milder things like (profanity) do

              • @pennypincher98: Well (profanity) me, you (profanity) are (profanity) right

              • +2

@pennypincher98: (profanity) (profanity) (profanity) (profanity) (profanity) (profanity) (profanity)

              • @pennypincher98: What is this milder term you speak of? I thought it was (profanity) but that shit wasnt it. I wonder if we'll get kicked off ozb because of what we're doing…

                • +1

@sigplay: By the looks of it, we're all basically veteran OzBargain members, so we should be safe :)

@Gorian4: Haha or 8 year olds learning curse words for the first time

  • +2

I have an older model in the bathroom. It's still working after 5+ years. And I bought it for $5 or $10.

  • Easiest way to bump up your power bill (unless you have a PV system).

There seems to be a single person persistently denigrating this product. Used responsibly these are fine, like a lot of products. Yes they are inefficient but given the low price they can be used a quite a bit and you will still be ahead compared to buying a more expensive heater with lower running costs.

    • It's okay for them to comment , but not a reason for neg

      • if there is something wrong with the product, that is plenty reason to neg, especially if it has the potential to catch fire easily.

        • +1

Let's go back to the fundamentals of this site.. it's a bargain site, and if a product is not a bargain, neg it.

I don't give a fk about public service announcements or opinions, it's not a reason to neg something… Sure post your opinion, just don't neg the deal

It is very easy to neg every single thing posted on here then, because people will always have an opinion on everything

It's like those fkwits that get triggered by alcohol or firearm deals.

          • @orbital: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/help:voting_guidelines

            Negative Vote

            Purpose:

To let others know about issues with the deal, merchant or product.

if there is what appears to be a great deal, but the product in the deal has the potential to burn your house down (and that is not the purpose of the product), that is a valid reason to give a negative vote.

it's not like those idiots who get triggered by alcohol and firearms because they are voting purely based on what the item is, rather than if the item is actually good or not.

    • I agree, this heater is no more inefficient than any other electric heater bar heat pump units.

This heater is actually almost 100% efficient, it only looks bad because heat pumps are up to 600% efficient in heating. (Neat engineering trick).

      • (Neat engineering trick).

        Or just science, hey.

Saying "100% efficient" enthusiasticly in this context sounds like a trick. When it comes to heating/cooling, that's poor percentage.

I used to hate them, because I felt they were an inferior form of heating, but I was operating on a different scale back then.

Now I see that every product fills a particular use-case scenerio, and for these heaters thats usually unpredictable/short term loads, where the extra investment in more efficient technologies is not justified. So they have their niche.

Some things I've used them for:
      -defrosting a freezer
-Warming up a bathroom for 15 minutes before bathing a dog
-heating for a spare bedroom that guests use once in a bluemoon
-heating in a small workshop where I had concrete molds curing.

In each case they were worth the dollar or two worth of energy used. But yeah, if you're using them to heat a bedroom or worse a lounge area through a whole winter, you're better off getting a reverse cycle installed. Or if your renting, a portable reverse cycle AC.

  • Nearest "in stock" is 834km away for me.
With the fuel cost to pick up, wouldn't be too concerned about the increased energy bill…
    Pass.

  • +1

Good when you need it for like 10-15 minutes (changing kids clothes after a bath). So it serves its purpose.
Also there is no replacement for its size and portability.
I'm thinking each house should at least have it.

  • Bills included in rent so not an issue for me there
Have an oscillating version from Kmart and it heats up a small area quick. This isn't something to have on for an hour..

Common sense also goes a long way, don't place it on surfaces or near objects that could easily melt or ignite.

  • barely any stock. here's a $14 ceramic tower heater, also v low stock: https://www.target.com.au/p/celsius-2-w-ceramic-tower-heater…
