  • Is the one from yesterday only more powerful?

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/646316

    • yea but overkill for most

      • OK, so this one normal SUV should be fine, right?

        • I'd say so, it states upto 8.0L Gas. If you want to wait a little, the 2000A version goes on sale ever so often for $99 if you keep an eye out for it, otherwise this will suffice.

          • @BargainKen:

            otherwise this will suffice.

This should be enough for many jump start.

    Thanks

seems like it won't be able to charge a MacBook (…only 15W Type-C port)

  • +1

Why this over the one for $60 on Kogan?

  • Does anyone have any experience with one of these long term? I’m hesitant to buy as I wonder if it’s any good beyond the first few uses. Cheers

    • Amazon have a solid returns policy

Got one 6 moths ago. It's really good no issues starting car, charging phone or even running camping fridge for a few hrs solid.

      • sorry how do you run the camping fridge with this ? with the aligator clips output ?

        • +1

Comes with a female cig plug you can plug your fridge into.

      • You've won me over with that last bit 😂

    • +2

I've had one for maybe a year or 2, only used it to jump start. did its job on my old hilux multiple times, big block chev, austin 1600 and my old greenfield ride on probably 20 times. paid for itself easily.

Has one go bad after 13 months. Wouldn't charge. Seller gave full refund and quite responsive

I bought the 2000A one over half a year ago. This thing has bailed me out so many times due to a dodgy car battery which I have now replaced. Great value.

  • i returned a 2000a version because it wouldnt hold charge (dropped 50% in a week), but amazons returns policy is good, so it was worth the effort trying it out anyway

    • +1

Best not to keep them at 100% charge all the time, mine is always kept at just under 80% and out of sunlight, still going strong after 4 years.

      • always kept at just under 80% and out of sunlight

        Indicator on it?

        • Yes, I usually keep it on 4/5 lights on the charging indicator.

Although, this model appears to use 4 lights, so I would maintain it on 3/4 lights on

      • +1

absolutely right, thats best for the health of lithium cells hey

i didnt have to worry about that, the battery made sure it didnt stay at 100% for long lol

trouble was it, all by itself, blew right past 80%, and flattened itself entirely within 2 weeks so maybe less. i even had enough time within the 30 day returns policy to recharge it, and leave it unplugged to confirm it would self discharge a second time

if you leave yours unplugged for a week, how much charge do you lose?

        • Oh wow, honestly I think I actually the longest I've left mine was about 4 months at 80% and without recharging it, it still showed 4/5 lights on and it managed to jumpstart my car just fine.

          • @Gorian4: yep that was my expectation lol

you probably know about DJI drone batteries? - for those that dont, each battery has its own controller, and when you charge them to 100%, after a few days (configurable length) they deliberately self discharge to about 70% which i think is the optimal storage state of charge for lipo cells. i dont recall the specifics but you get used to putting them away at 100% and if you grab it again at the right time its actually a little warm from the discharge. but after that, they sit at 70 or 60% or so for ages, which is good if you dont fly for a while

anyhoodle, just if someone buys one of these Gooloo things, my advice is charge it to 80 or 100 or whatever, and check it again in 2 weeks

            • @yahms: Oh wow, nifty feature, I didn't know such a battery existed

  • +1

Used one to save multiple cars, I found that you do need to press the boost button even if the green light is on (not flashing). When jumpstarting a flooded engine, just make sure you know what you are doing and it will work fine :)

    • Learned only after I called racq that I needed to press boost on the only time I needed to use it

      • -1

Owning one isnt enough, you also need to read the manual.

      • I needed to use it in all 3 occasion so…. Idk

  • Very useful during lockdown and the car is sitting idle in the garage! Got one a couple of weeks ago and used it already.

  • I kinda want one but don't really need it because I already have roadside assist. Do people here just rely on these instead of paying for roadside assist?

    • +1

      I already have roadside assist

Depends on how far you will travel, currently no need for Sydneysiders.

    • +1

I've got roadside assist but only on my older car, its handy to have regardless saves waiting for them to come out to jump you or even if someone else needs a jump

    • +1

These gadgets can save you time, so I think they are worth buying even if you have roadside assist.

Edit. See above. I was a bit slow. :)

  • How does this one compare to the 2000A? This one says water-resistant, + cig adapter, more worth it?

Also, any recommendations for a car battery charger? (for charging the battery when car is not in use)

  • +2

    "often purchased together….Quilton 4 ply toilet paper…"

For when you're in deep sh*t in the middle of nowhere and the booster doesn't work?

  • I would suggest to go for the Supercheap autos bulkier version which lasts much longer
