  • Good - thanks

  • Do you know if it is compatible with a 2nd generation Seagate GoFlex Desk drive?

    • Not sure sorry. But have a look at your current adaptor, and if its model is WA-18H12, then yes.

  • Dont those power supply of external hdd normaly uses 2amp? Cos my wd n samsung ones works vice versa but both at 2amps

    • These are the genuine Seagate Expansion replacement power supply.

    • My WD MyBook Essential has a 1.5A 12v adapter but it is definitly DC. Id be double checking what they are (AC or DC) before plugging them in to see the "pretty smoke"…

  • +1

    DC Output • 12VAC 1.5A

    Polarity: • Center Positive

If the rated output is 12V AC, then how can the output be DC or have a polarity?

    • +1

Must be a typo - very rarely this gear runs on AC..

      PIC:

      http://www.accessoryon.com/1354-3220-thickbox/apd-12v-15a-se…

    • if the output is 12v ac then i would assume that the output voltage is unregulated. nothing unusual

      • It's not a question of unregulated or not. AC and DC are contradictory specs. AC has no polarity. Most likely it is unregulated 12 VDC as dvddirect showed.

      • have a look at the output wave forms for a full wave rectifier https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rectifier . it will have a capacitor to smooth out the peaks so that they are just little ripples with a dc offset.

      • +1

Yeah I know all that, I did EE too, but DC with ripple is not the same thing as AC. AC means what the term means, alternating current, the polarity changes with a frequency of 50 Hz in Australia. Don't try to tell me that your wall socket puts out 240V with ripples.

      • all right, i've re-read what you were asking.

the output is not rated 12vac. it is correctly described as an "ac power adapter". the output is clearly rated as dc. it is a 12vdc, 1.5a, ac power adapater.

$10 delivered for a 12v transformer is pretty good!
Go to Jaycar for one and you'll be paying $30 plus… nad you have to go there to get it!

    • they're very cheap from china, the 5/12v bricks that power hdd enclosures are only a couple of bucks.

      • And are more likely to burn your house down ;-)

Im assuming these are the left over power supplies from all the external hard drives you have cracked open, therefore voiding the warranty, to sell as internal drives to unsuspecting customers.

    • Thanks for reminding me lol. I was going to buy a few of these, then you reminded me about all those 3TB Seagate externals I bought from that deal last year lol. So thats 4 adapters for free!

    • +1

All of our products comes with full warranty. If they are found faulty within the warranty period, they will be repaired, replaced or refunded. Can you please withdraw your misleading comment

Happy to hear your defence Netplus.

The 'fact' that it comes with warranty doesn't stop the fact that you rip open external harddrives and sell the guts as new OEM harddrives for a greater profit.

Even if it comes with warranty, it will only be through Netplus. I don't exactly have a crystal ball but what happens if your shop closes in the future?

  • +1

Picked up 2 for neighbour, and 2 for myself.
    Thx NetPlus :-)

    EDIT:
Checked WD TV Live(WiFi) Model WDBGXT0000NBK-01 (not listed above)
and WD My Book Essential WDBACWxxxx
Both original supplied adapters are 12V 1.5A and are interchangeable between the 2

  • Order one. THanks.

  • Why do things always fail after a good deal.

Rep any chance of the same deal?
