  • This or Castrol Edge when it's around $30 to $35? Which is a better oil?

    • +4

No difference if you change it on time, assuming they're both the correct spec for your car.

If you want to split hairs, Edge 5w-30 only has API SL rating; whereas Magnatec 5w-30 has SN (supersedes SL). Both meet A3/B4. However, Edge meets more OEM long-drain-interval specs, even more so with Edge 5W-40.

Real world difference would be marginal if you're changing the oil at 5 -7,500 km intervals. That being said, marketing would get the better of me and I'd go Edge if it's going into something with forced induction.

    • I wouldn't be surprised if they were the same oils. Both are group 3 synthetics.

  • Also 10W 40 available too

The 10w40 is not the full synthetic stop start version, it's semi.

      • 10w40 semi synthetic could be better for older cars that burn oil … Going to test it myself since the sale ends today.

  • I bought 3x of these for $20 each from Autobarn back on Boxing Day 2019. About to use the last one - have found it to be a fine oil for my 2010 Prius with 335,000km on the clock.

Bought Valvoline synpower fully synthetic back when they had that $20 gift card for each bottle and it was on sale as well so ended up paying $5 a bottle for $50 fully synthetic oils still got a few left 😁
