NetGear ReadyNAS NV+ RND4000 v2 $248 + Shipping from Harris Technology

340

HT have the readynas NV+ version 2 for an insane price of $248 + shipping. This is a fantastic unit and has the robustness of the readynas product range.

The Marvell ARM cpu is still in it's "infancy" stage so there aren't as many addons as X86 or SPARC versions but it's very fast in comparison to the old SPARC NV+ I have.

  • HT has them in stock (in the warehouse) but available at the old price ($498), grrr. I received their email advertising this at 3am. Seems you need to get up at 6am and order online overnight, or just get angry. More like a 4 hour sale than a 48 hour sale.

    • It was going yesterday afternoon too

    • I ordered mine and got the automatic confirmation email at 8:49am this morning, so it was still going then. Looks I might have been one of the last in from the sounds of it.

Just got my despatch email so I should have it tomorrow.

    • The sale timeline ticker still had 14 + hours to go when I was trying to purchase this morning. How can they still show stock at a vastly increased price before the advertised sale period has closed??

    Arghhhh.

  • These Netgear NAS systems are a rip off you can buy a 4 bay SATA dual core x86 CPU super low power micro server from HP for less then $300 with FreeNAS.

Breaks my heart to see people paying hundreds of $$ for Netgear NAS and Routers etc that has like a $7MIPS/Marvel CPU and 64MB of flash for a hacked together mini linux, when you can buy quality stuff like Intel based gear for cheaper price and use just as little power.
    This is a complete racket.

    • this thing works out of the box after the RAID is initialised, how much fluffing around does installing an OS like WHS take then making sure it's virus free etc

some people just want an easy to use/configure frontend, set and forget

you could spend weeks configuring something and still not get it to do what you want it to, it's the exact same argument of pc vs mac, pointless

it's marketed for clearly someone other than yourself, each to their own

      • And look how many posts here saying how much their Netgear NAS has stuffed up on them, its a bit of a case where I want to see what I want to believe.
If you can copy files to a network then I would recommend you go that step further and stop being a slave to something that is a complete rip off, and yes to each there own, no hurt in me suggesting significantly faster and cheaper solutions.

  • Managed to snaffle one of these, my first NAS, so I'll be getting rid of the three external HDD's I have, and gaining some redundancy in the package. Anyone seen any decent deals on 3TB drives to fit this unit?

    • I'm after some 3tb too….anyone?

      • Yeah, the OCAU Scoprion Hitachi deal (from last year). $159 seemed to be the pricepoint for 3TB external drives recently.

  • lets wait for the ultra 4 to be on sale/clearance.
ht had nv+ on sale like 6mths ago, now nv+ v2,
fingers cross for ultra4 in 6mths time.

  • I got an email saying it was despatched but my card hasn't been charged yet so I dunno…

    • +1

So your getting a FreeNAS ;)

You sure you haven't got a reservation against the card (ie. reduced available limit)?

      • Appeared on my statement the day it arrived. Oh well, haven't opened it yet I'll do that when I can grab 3x3tb

        Edit: Just realised it's a 4bay. Sweet :D

  • I haven't heard anything yet regarding my pickup from Office works in WA.

Anyone able to pick it up yet?

  • Is it just me or do you only get Cat5 not Cat5e cable in the box?

    • One Cat5 in Yellow only.

      • its a short patch lead, should work fine with gigabit anyway, (mines does, and goes to 60MB/s)

        • Is that 60MB/s writing to the NAS?

  • whoever need need a definition on V1 and V2 check here
