Device Banned Xbox Series X Help

Hello there friends.

Can somebody with more technical knowledge help me understand exactly what happens to an Xbox series X that has been device banned?

Is it just unable to access any internet for updates and such or is it just the Xbox live portal?

I'm looking at buying an Xbox series x at a discount but still need to know if it can even be used because I know most new games need constant updates just to use them or connection to a live account??

I rarely go online to play games just play myself mostly or with friends at home.

I also want to be able to use all the backwards compatibility games and the 4k player and of course all the new hardware on my new TV.

Thanks

Congrats on your new DVD player.

You can give Microsoft support a try - but I believe these bans are permanent.

Did you buy it from a store or private seller?

I went to know exactly what will work or won't

      • Just can't access Xbox online services.

        • So no updates of any kind?

          • -1

@Jjj888: No updates, however your games are still able to be played. I am not sure if they still kill your digital games but physical copies should be fine

Then call Microsoft and ask them if you went to know “exactly”.

A 5 second Google search turned up this information about device bans.

An Xbox Live device ban is only issued in extreme cases and for the most serious of violations. Here are a few of the reasons a device ban is issued:

          • Xbox console tampering, such as physically opening an Xbox console and modifying it to play illegitimate or unauthorised software
          • Online fraud, such as phishing, account theft, or other attempts to defraud Microsoft or other players
          • Repeating serious violations of the Microsoft Services Agreement that establish a clear pattern of nefarious activity

Save those who can't search or even click on a link.

          • @SF3: @SF3: precisely, this doesn't answer the question at all…

Am I reading it right your looking at buying one thats banned?
As long as its <$50 go for it.

    • Sounds like it. OP is leaving out key info

      • agree

      • Yes looking at buying one

        • Thanks for confirming. I'd avoid… How much is it looking like? There are ways to get discounted ones if you can actually buy.

Not too sure about the process involved but at a guess you won't have access to game pass which has been great value, online play, purchased games, and potentially updates for broken games.

You lose all access to live features: https://support.xbox.com/en-AU/help/family-online-safety/enf…

Don't do this unless it's discounted to $50 and you're happy to use it as an offline console for disc games but without any patches or updates.

There's only one on eBay for $300. If that's the one you're after, don't be that stupid.

      $300 paperweight.

  • Unless someone knows how I can get one not broken I'd pay RRP can't afford $999+

You buy what you can afford in life. why do you NEED latest and greatest?

$750 if you wait and keep watching they are around.

      • I got one in the last drop because I follow this Twitter account https://twitter.com/AustraliaXSX. They update you when there is about to be a drop and then notify when there is one. You have to be quick though, stock sells out super quick.

  • Don’t do it. It’s a paperweight.

Most games come with DRM that requires Xbox live to get past the DRM the Xbox would be a paper weight

  • You planning on stealing someone's Xbox and seeing what it can do once Microsoft ban it after reporting it stolen?

  • Okay thank you for the information

  • +2

Most games these days come with Day 1 patches

Imagine buying Cyberpunk and not being able to update it…!

  • I also expect there will be driver and firmware updates that games in future will need to function. Unless you can hack the device and install these updates I reckon it would lose function quickly.

  • Stolen shipment maybe?

  • Just be patient and refresh OZB every 15 minutes.
Also make alerts for "xbox series x".
