New TV - 55inch for around $1,500

Hi all

Tv noob

Can someone please recommend a TV to purchase at the moment either 50 or 55 inch (preferably 55 inch) somewhere around the $1,500 mark? Not massively fussed on pircture quality as much as I am keen on smart featured/easy to use for apps etc

Ideally would wait for a big sale but need one pretty quickly due to lockdown and our tv not working, and not many deals floating around at the moment.

Thank you!

Spend less and just get an Eko from BigW.

      What an awful recommendation.

If he has $1500 to spend hes much better off getting a reputable brand with a quality panel over some cheaply producted BigW tv.

      • They have Android TV and OP doesn't give a toss about PQ, why wouldn't you advise they save sone coin? Also, if you'd done any research you'd see that the Eko is highly regarded in whirlpool forums. But sure, do go on about knowing nothing…

      • That is some awful logic you have there.. reputable doesnt necessarily mean good plenty of reputable brands that have released trash. Instead of putting down some ones input why didn't you make a recommendation instead? Probably because you have no idea what you are talking about but that is just an assumption, you might be a TV panel guru.

  • Definitely not Hisense 2021 models, returned two 55" due to HDMI issues.

Anything from LG definitely has my recommendation.

  • Just got an email from JB hifi for Father’s Day, Samsung 55" QLED 4K Smart TV for $1595, $700 off RRP

    • Hi Bafranz, can you tell me which model? I can't see it on the site

      • Sorry mate, the sale has ended :( it was for Samsung Q80A 55", there’s always sales, good luck with it

        • I'll keep an eye out. Cheers

  • Sony X90J when it's on sale - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/634630

  • Whatever you buy, remember JB Hifi has their Minimum Voluntary Warranty

Other than Hisense and TCL, most TV makers are only giving you 1 year warranty

You can push them for more quoting the ACL, but if you buy at JB at least you get 2 years warranty for anything from $1000 to $2000 - and it costs no extra. Harvey Norman would want $100 for that extended warranty.

Also I would say Hisense in my experience are pretty good with warranty. I had a 3.5 year old 75" Hisense that went bung recently. It was 6 months out of warranty. Hisense replaced it with their lowest end 2021 model with no haggling or hassle. They have won my loyalty as a result.
