Need help on this one… I have a sharp microwave which has started sparking frequently. It looks like the mica plate is burnt at the centre. Is it time to buy a replacement or is this a quick DIY fix to replace the plate?

Thanks, removed ‘Urgent’ from the title…. I didn’t realise how much dependent I am on microwave for heating all my food until this happened…

For the relatively low price of a new one, I feel this is something you just go out and replace
Best to address quickly as they can progress to a fire hazard
Sparking = URGENT
Food = important
Click & collect something from Big W or wherever
YEah - that happens when oil builds up on the mica sheets and burns.
Just remove the mica sheet - its help in with tabs that you can fold out.
Trace the mica sheet over a sheet of thin cardboard from a wheetbix box, then cut it out and install it into your microwave.
Then order another mica sheet of the right size from amazon, and wait three months for it to arrive.
Bin that bad boy…

Sounds like it works fine, just clean it. Your oven is probably dirty, thats why it sparks.
Buying a new microwave due to this reason is like buying a new car because you dont know how to change a flat tyre.
You can still use the oven without a mica, just use a food cover to stop splatters.
Why is this such a massive deal??

Just go and get a cheap $50 Microwave from BigW/Kmart/Target, and use it instead of the old one.
Any DIY thing you trying to do to a microwave is NOT WORTH IT, unless you are a qualified engineer/electrician.
Microwaves are not lego pieces, that a child can play with, its full of all that tesla power magnets, high voltage generators, etc.Sorry, I got sidetracked when you told me I could build tesla's teleforce "deathray" out of a microwave……

Without knowing how old the microwave is, but microwaves need to be replaced every 3-5 years as they will start leaking excessive radiation.
I'm not sure a new Microwave classifies as an urgent matter.
You should be able to replace the Mica sheet/plate but depends on your model. That might help.
