Brake Caliper Painting in Melbourne

Hi Ozbargainers,

Have anyone painted their brake calipers recently? Googled a lot of places doing in all around Melbourne with different prices.

Don’t want the hassle to paint it myself. Just want to hear experiences from someone who has done recently through any places in Melbourne. Any suggestions about good places most welcome. Thank you

    Welcome to OzCaliperpainters.

If you don't want to do it yourself find a spray painter at a panel shop who might do it for you.

It'll cost you though for such a small job.

Make Google your friend and see how easy it can be to DIY

Definitely an essential service during these lockdowns.

Don't forget that you will need some Brembo stickers to go on the calipers. They simply won't improve if you just paint them.

My son painted his and he loved it, but when he came to sell the car privately, it got knocked back on roadworthy. Painted calipers are only legal if they are supplied in that way and he had to strip the paint off them to achieve his roadworthy. We are in Geelong so it's a Victorian law. So check it out before you paint in case you wish to sell in the near future.

    • Where they powdercoated?

Approved caliper paint sprayed carefully should be ok I would have thought (but probably hard to prove)

Also, using paint stripper on the calipers probably had potential to cause more damage than the paint itself. Weird.

    • Lol @ it's a Victorian law… Then post the relevant legislation.

If your RWC guy fed you that line of shit and you gobbled it up, I have a nice bridge up here in Sydney you might like to buy…

I suspect it was a shitty diy job with overspray on the pads, discs, hydraulic lines etc preventing a proper inspection for potential existing damage. That's the only reason I can think of.

More like the next sentence out of the testers mouth was… "I have a guy who does caliper paint stripping who is coming in today… I can get him to have a look at it for you…"

        • I think you overestimate how much effort goes until a RWC inspection.

I would love to see what law says you can't paint a brake caliper.

    • Your son was spun a very big line of poo.

No such law exists in Vic.

Supercheap - fine sand paper, few tools (spanner etc), primer, tape and whatever colour you want to shag around with… few cans or glasses of your fav drink, 2-3 hrs and your set!

    Job done!

As a new member to OzBargain, you are lucky you signed up to ask this question because I would like to tell you some important news… "Get insurance, at least 3rd party".

Do it now, before you go any further.

3rd party property, not just compulsory 3rd party (injury).

  • I went through Boris at https://easycalipers.com/ about 8 years ago. He painted the brake calipers on my 2005 SLK for $300 and I was very happy with his work. Got my calipers painted red just for to add a bit of colour contrast(gunmetal grey wheels, black car).

Actually impressive that someone made a business doing that.

      • There's a few in Sydney, seems like there's a fktonne of demand for caliper refinishing…

    • Thanks for the shout out man , Its been about 10 years now that I have been doing this , definetly worth having them done professionally , the rattle can paint is garbage the gloss just fades away within a week.

We actually do heaps of packages now days people get all their 4 wheels resprayed and the caliper painting is an add on.

Not me, but my husband has painted quite a few Porsche parts including brake callipers. He uses a product called Cerakote to do it and needs to be baked in an industrial oven. Wouldn't recommend spray can application.

Car parts are quite labour intensive and not cheap when done professionally.

As long as it is not exorbitant, why get your hands dirty… let them do the job.

    They look good.

    • Our thoughts exactly , nearly 30% of the jobs we do are actaully undoing someones backyard job costing a little extra than doing professionally to begin with.
