Great price for a decent all rounded lens.

Though IQ nothing to write home about.

I've heard it's EQ is nothing to write home about either.

        I'm homeless. Bought one, thanks.

same, only for the first part of your comment though

I am not sure who you have heard this from but this is the best 24-105 lens by far. I use it with my Sony A7RII and its pretty awesome for a lens of this range.

I think the sharpness is pretty good for a zoom.

further $60 off if you have the amex deal. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/646535

The FE 24-70mm F2.8 GM is a good price at $2066. There's 2.1% cash back with Shopback.
Or it would cost you less than 2 grands if you price match at Sony and get CR 8% cash back.

    • That's a good price for the 24-70. I went with 24-105 for extra reach but not impressed at all, I guess coming from Nikon 24-70 the bar was set high.

After getting an 85 prime, I started thinking about switching to 24-70. But missed the May/June $350 cashback, took too long to think then forgotten. Some shop was selling the 24-70 at $2,100 back then, making it $1,750 after cashback. So will have to come close to think again.

I wonder if more cashbacks are on the way.

      • Hi, Just a suggestion. You can price match at sony website with camerapro at $2066. They will add to your cart, then you can use Cashrewards for another 8% cashback. It comes down to $1900. Still not bad. If you have ANZ card, it will be 10%( $1859).

        • What’s the ANZ 10% about?

          • +1

@squarepants: Cashrewards max offers additional cashback if you link ANZ card to Cashrewards. Which is 10% for SONY

        • I think Cashrewards doesn't count GST, so it's more like $1,916. ($150 is still pretty good).

Not with ANZ, but there's an AMEX offer: spend $300 at Sony get $60 back (by 19/Sept), so $1,856. Tempting.

          • @browser: Yep with Amex cash back. $1856 is really good. Under 2 grands for a F2.8 24-70mm, any OEM camera brand is a bargain.

This is a really good price! Lowest before was that $2,098 deal with CameraClix I think? There was the Sony cashback as mentioned, which makes it cheaper than this deal now.

Bu like harryaus said, best bet now will be to price match at Sony. That’s what I’ve done and will wait for a Sony cashback to show up again.

    • Sigma's Art DG DN 24-70 2.8 is an excellent alternative as well, cheaper, slightly lighter, same image quality, only two downsides are a very slight penalty to autofocus speed and some reports of mild dust sneaking in via the zoom mechanism (despite being weather sealed), though the autofocus is still very fast and the dust reportedly has no detectable impact on image quality.

  • beware of Sony's back order expectations if you are counting on delivery - I pricematched an a1 in July - was supposed to be in stock - then i got an email saying early August - then another mid September - the thing is that I sold my a7r4 before I got the Sept email so rather disappointed

I've had one for some time and it's pretty damn sharp to me and I've got a bunch of GM lenses to compare to.

  • Is the 16-35 2.8 a good buy at $2,249? Been eyeing this lens for a while.

    • If you need it now, then that price is as good as you can get with SB cash back, or price match Sony with Amex and CR cash backs. Otherwise wait for combined discount/cash back promotion to get it under the 2K mark, possible once this year.

      • Thanks. I don't need it now as I plan to use the lens for travelling (when borders open in the far future). I just wonder if it's better to buy now than risk having prices go up later.

    • I got mine around $1980 after the discount and cash back! I would hold off if you can

  • Note that Cashrewards did not work for me if you do price match. This is because the item is already in the cart when you do price match.

    • Not true. I got cashback twice with my A7III body and lens from Sony, with price matched item sitting in cart already.

Believe Sony doesn’t have the requirement that you go through cashrewards to an empty cart. Unless they’ve changed their requirements recently.

      • Can we get a comment from Cashrewards Rep?

    • I have done this and it works, as that clause of adding to cart is only for amazon( or probably some more stores) but not for Sony store.

  • Cash rewards back to 2%
