I wonder what the seller is doing to make sure you're not one of those buyers who are "currently on an oil rig"!

    • I got the latest version of this the other day. They have upped their game. I'm selling a motorcycle and got the "I'm in far north Qld and want to buy your bike, but due to COVID lock downs, I cant get there, so I am going to pay you for the bike AND transport for you to send it to me."

I'm now just waiting for the over payment scam or the badly photo-shopped deposit slip to turn up and for them to call me a scammer…

      • but due to COVID lock downs, I cant get there, so I am going to pay you…

Sounds like what OP is doing!

      • Oh ye of little faith (lol)

  • Waiting for my brother in Vic to hand him the bank cheque or cash.

      Cash?
      Who carries $55,000 in cash?

I agree. $50k is my personal carry limit for safety reasons.

$55k for a car that is 2000km away? Cant get something the same/similar closer? If I was spending that much, I'd want to be able to see and inspect the vehicle.

Unless you are getting a stellar deal on it or it is super rare, I wouldn't bother. You are going to need to factor in shipping and registration costs once it gets back to Qld, so the price needs to reflect that difference in price at least.

If it is registered in Vic, tell them to remove the plates and cash in the rego and take that off the final price at least.

Also because people will just say "PPSR" without any context.. Go to the actual government website (not the shonky one) and pay the $2. https://www.ppsr.gov.au/ or you can go to Budget Direct and they will do it for free.

  • Need make and model..

Due to lack of details you can guarantee it's a Euro

OP's got/had a merc before so he's no stranger to euros.

    • 2017 Mercedes 2 door C200 / C300 coupe with all extras like upgraded audio / drive pack, white, silver or grey under 50,000 kms and $60K max.

  • $55K in cash was tongue in cheek. In FNQ I never buy cars always been Brisbane even with cartage, always buy Mercedes and a certain model, found two one in Sydney and one in Melbourne in colour I like.

The questions above remain other than check money owing.

  • Merged from Car finance check

What do car dealers use for finance check on used cars PPSR?

What is best method handing over funds like pay with bank cheque on private car purchase?

Last car I sold for $35K we did the transfer and payment at motor registery

    • Last car I sold for $35K we did the transfer and payment at motor registery

      Do that ^ again.

Or go with the seller to purchase a bank cheque and then head to the motor registry to do the papers (or online). Then hand seller bank cheque.

    • Not sure what you mean for the finance thing. Do a PPSR check prior to paying anything. If it’s got finance just adds a level of compexity in paying the finance out before taking ownership. Or do you mean does a dealer do a check prior to taking your trade in? (The will do)

Pay with Instant transfer (Oslo). I paid for a vehicle with it. Seller had my payment before my screen refreshed to show the balance lower. I sold a vehicle and had funds within a minute, they took it home. Rego ‘notice of disposal’ online by the time they’d got to the end of the street. No need to go anywhere.

  • Found the car we wanted with all the extras from large Melbourne dealer with at a good price, they are shipping it to us this week. Paid via bank transfer so all good.
