[iOS] Paramount Plus Subscription for $5.99/Year (iOS App Required)

19670

Seems like there is a pricing error for Paramount+ on the Apple ecosystem.

Need an iOS device to take advantage.

Instructions:

  • Download the Paramount App on iOS
  • Sign up to a Monthly subscription (you are not charged here as there’s a free 7 day trial)
  • Go into your Subcriptions in Apple Settings and select “anual” at $5.99
  • You’re good until 2022

Get it while you can and enjoy 😄

Yes, the "Anual" subscription is still active, renewing September next year, but the item is gone from the list of available subs.

What will likely happen is that near the end of the year's sub, you'll get an email from Apple saying that you need to switch to another subscription option to continue.

I'm not across the exact mechanics of App Store subscriptions, but I don't think there's much they can do about it for those that already have it. It was offered, we paid for it legitimately, not our mistake but theirs.

      • +1

It has nothing ticked at all now on mine.

        • Same here… option is gone, and nothing ticked, but still has "if you cancel now, you can still access your subscription until 11 Sep 2022." at the bottom of the screen.

          Thanks OP!

I think fun is over they fixed it

      Found Darth Vader's ozb account.

    • haha I just binge watched these two, definitely worth $5.99 I paid!

      • haha the Pandemic special is one of the best ever imo

    • Jesus… these guys made such Mickey which Disney couldn’t make in a century 🤣
What a recommendation you have made. Awesome. 👏

  • Any way to sign in through Android?

    • +1

Yeah. You just get the Paramount app from the Play store and log in with the username and password you created.

  • +1

Think they have caught on , friend said $89 for him

  • +2

Literally expired while I was doing it -.-

  • +4

Can't help but feel this has been a well-orchestrated advertising scheme. I told 4 other people about this deal. Considering the cost of running TV ads its money well spent. Well played. I'm just glad I didn't miss out. I hope they honor it.

    • They have to honor it. I doubt they will get apple to issue refunds. They are very strict with their appstore.

    • +1

It’s very possible its orchestrated rather than an error. whoever got it are the lucky ones.I mean it 6 bucks.I am already watching!!!

      • any recommendations?

        • Oz , south park vaccination special and also if you have kids paw patrol and some other nick jr shows first time im seeing all seasons of Dora too.

          • @sammyla: thank u. watching infinite now.. pretty good so far

  • +3

Not even mad I missed this 🤣🤣🤣

    • U should be

      • Sour grapes?

  • +24

Was 93.34% off whilst it lasted, well done OP

Only paid them $5.99 thanks to the temporary price error. Should they cancel and refund, I’ll save $5.99 they would never have received from me. Should they honour, hopefully I may find something worth watching over the next year

    • +3

It would cost apple and Paramount more money and effort to cancel and apologise than cover it. Apple can just write it off and use it as another excuse to pay no tax in Australia.

  • Brilliant post! I hope they honour it. Massive upvotes!

    • +1

Suspect they'll leave it as is , as the effort to reverse it could be more reputational damage than if they just let it slide.

No chance though of 5.99 again in a year's time.

  • +1

Great marketing. I don't think they lost too much from it either. I told most of my friends and family and I don't think any of them got around to actually doing it!

    • +23

I don't think any of them got around to actually doing it!

I find noone is as excited about bargains as I am in my friendship circle. I feel like I just spam them with bargains and they never are that appreciative. Shrug

      • +13

that's me too - after a while you just don't bother and keep it to yourself haha

      • +1

        I feel ya.

      • I feel the same. They call me obsessive

      • +8

Same… I told a friend who actually pays a monthly sub for Paramount+ and also owns an iPhone. His reply

I don’t mind paying properly for the service, I use it all the time

      • +1

I just don't tell anybody anything anymore

      • +2

Same. I tried to get my workmate to sign up for 50% off gas when she's on like 25%, 'nah I cbb I'm moving in a year anyway', i was like wot, it takes 5 minutes! A lot of people said cbb too, boggles me.

        • Cheaper providers have higher disconnecting fees, so it is not completely unreasonable.

          • @Mistredo: I've switched gas a few times and never had a disconnection fee?

            • @MeesusEff: Were you moving?

              • @Mistredo: Nope. Just changed providers everytime there was a good deal. Maybe things work different in WA

    • <3

      -

Aside: Wonder how much true 4k HDR content is available in Australian stream offering

  • +2

It has OZ!!! It's worth it just for that!! Watch it if you guys don't know what it is!!!

    • +1

I already bought it and binged Oz end to end recently. So good. Shame it wasnt remastered on wide screen

      • +1

Yeah I was hoping for a remastered version.. I just started season 1 again yesterday.. it's been a few years since I've seen it so it definitely needs another run!

    • You see that Counterpart show?

      It is Schillinger in it.

    • Amazing TV show

  • +1

Thanks OP. Don't have an iOS device but this helped a few friends.
I don't remember seeing so many upvotes for any post. Is this a record for this year?

  • +3

    Damn!
There's no app for Samsung TVs.

    • Yes this sucks. Can’t be bothered connecting laptop to tv.

      • +1

You can stream via ATV or Chromecast

        • how to u do it on ATV?

          • +1

            @squidz: https://support.paramountplus.com/s/article/PI-How-do-I-watc…

“You can now watch Paramount+ Channel on supported devices for the Apple TV app. Just sign in with your Apple ID.
Note, this is a separate subscription from the Paramount+ app and billing will be managed under your Apple ID.”

So looks like it is separate subscription, so unless you pay for another subscription I guess you can’t watch via Apple TV app on tv

            • @t0087669: oh thx, im out of luck then .. im on fire stick haha

              • @squidz: Doesn’t firestick just run an android operating system? Surely Paramount+ is available through Android

                • @TightTerry: they do, i believe it's just like apple tv n iphone app paramount+ sub is separate

            • @t0087669: Isn't this subscription managed through the Apple ID? The sub is done through the Apple settings not the app itself? I'm unsure.

              • +1

@leyton01: Dunno, I couldn’t get it working. I am able to watch paramount content on my Apple TV app on my iPhone, but not on my TV through the ATV

                • @t0087669: Paramount+ needs to create standalone apps for all popular devices Similar to what Disney+ did.

                • @t0087669: I can watch on my Apple TV plus all other devices. Sub is through app store on iPhone.

                  • @adam: How did you get it working?
On iPhone, with the Apple TV app, I went to connected apps and turn on the paramount +.
But when I went to my lg tv, going through Apple TV app trying to watch paramount content, it still says “do you want to sign up through Apple ID?”

    • +1

That is a big downside of what is supposed to be a tv streaming service

    • I am watching it via Samsung browser, good enough, full screen looks same as app.

      • Login screen is just a blank white screen on my Samsung KS8500 web browser from 2016.

  • +2

If you can keep this price forever, people who missed out on this will be so bitter. lol

    • Got Netflix Amazon and fox

      And you tube.

      Nah I fine

  • +4

Interesting what the confirmation email says - this could be the gift that keeps giving if its correct re renewal at $5.99/year - "Your subscription automatically renews for $5.99/year starting on 10 September 2022 until cancelled"

    • +1

Most likely they will remove the subscription tier - when your renewal comes up in a years time you will be asked to select a new subscription tier/option or your subscription will just end

      • +5

They've already removed the subscription tier, and yep, that's exactly what will happen. Expect an email around July/August next year :)

      • Yeah agreed, streaming mobs change up the pricing all the time

  • +1

Got it before it was fixed… fingers crossed it sticks..

  • +1

Hopefully they'll update an Android Play store bug soon and then "fix" it 4 hrs later

  • could some one pm me a screen shot of the pramount plus current plan screen please just want to see what it should show therre

    • In the app or Apple subscriptions?

      • in application please of paramount +

        • are u able to do it for me

  • -2

Expect the new iPhones to be $100 dearer in Australia if The fault lies with Apple

    • +2

It's not Apples fault. It's whoever is managing the listing for Paramount.

  • +2

Looks like they (Paramount+) will have to notify, and get acceptance from existing customers if they want to raise the price in the future.

From Apple Developer doco: " How Price Increases are Communicated. When you increase the price of a subscription, Apple informs affected subscribers via email and push notification and asks them to agree to the new price. On iOS 13.4 and iPadOS 13.4 and later, affected subscribers are also notified through a price consent sheet that automatically displays in your app."

    • Yep, and they cannot raise the price until your renewal date come up.

    • +1

They don't have to keep offering the service at $5.99 however. People will just have an opportunity to cancel. Disney+ jacked their prices for example this year.

  • Guarantee this was not an accident.

They just got a ridiculous amount of new customers they would have never have otherwise got. Let's say 70% cancel after 1 year, they are still laughing. All they care about is market share, not revenue at this point.

At the very least they have your identity and viewing habits so your data can be sold at a much higher price.

    • +1

That’s not how economics of streaming works. The will already havals high startup cost. It’s not like new customers=zero marginal costs, also Apple Will take their cut.

      • Apples cut of A$5.99?

        • Yes it is App Store transaction

        • Most likely 30% as of today

      • Startup cost. Paramount. Yeah ok.

        • Yes all projects In the business world get properly budgeted for and have an hurdle rate of investment.

        • Things don’t just drop out of the sky

    • +1

If that was true they would have advertised it, made it available on Android and not changed the pricing only a few hours later after a potential bulk intake of users. Look at how Apple has distributed Apple TV+ for an example of a streaming service taking a hit to grow its user base. Paramounts approach wouldn't make sense if that was the intent.

This also likely wouldn't have gone down on a Saturday afternoon when less eyes are on the news.

      • +6

The $5.99 "anual" price has been there for days - it was originally reported on the Whirlpool forums last Monday:

        https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/thread/941r5463?p=86#r1712

As with most things OzBargain, it's probably this page that finally brought it to their attention.

Or, of course, it could've been a planned week-long "accident" ;)

        • Yeah I’m not surprised it was there for a period of time, but it wasn’t like it was advertised in the app itself, available to Android users etc. It required a specific plan change outside of the Paramount app using Apples billing system.

If they wanted to grow the user base it’s not only an odd way to do it, but not particularly efficient either. Especially without any PR around it.

      • -1

Like I said, they wanted to get in users that would not normally have signed up, ie ozb users.

They will get other users through other advertising techniques for a higher yearly rate but this one was a targeted campaign for savvy men in their 20s and 30s who are skeptical of signing up for yet another streaming service.

        • Sorry but no, it was very plainly a mistake.

Paramount+ is an international service. Paramount weren’t going out to reach OzBargainer iOS users (but not Android!) while relying on users to find and post the offer rather than having their marketing team post it.

          • @Smigit: You think there isn't a small team of people in the Paramount Australia office tasked solely with figuring out ways to scrape market share from established streaming services?

Sure not specifically ozb users but users that were shared the link until they hit their target number then reverted the yearly price.

They are playing the long game, revenue is not important in the first years of a new tech business, it's market share.

  • +2

Good God, there's a new Dexter and it's on Paramount in November!

  • How many devices can it let login?

    • 3 simultaneously

  • ok. anyone starting classifieds on sharing? :)
    missed out..

    • There are no profiles on it yet so doubt people would share yet.
