Oops sorry for that! thanks for letting me know :)

If anyone hasn’t learned about preordering after cyberpunk they deserve to get screwed. Especially preordering a game from EA.

    • +10

The latest BF games have been train wrecks for the first couple of months after release too.

      • I'd say battlefield 5 was a trainwreck for almost a whole year after. It put me off the game entirely but I'm sure it's better now right?

        • I have a question to ask the community:
What would this be more fun on, Console or PC?

I think on PC you get Keyboard-Mouse, closer screen/monitor, potentially better graphics, and a free or open community.

On Console, you have a more refined and curated experience. But you're using a controller. And you have to pay to play online.

But then on PC you can have cheaters just wreck the game for everyone.

…hmm, I hate cheaters ruining the game. But I would prefer mouse. Thoughts?

          • +1

@Kangal: Considering the game is going to be cross-platform, you're going to get hackers regardless of what you play it on. Just get it on PC. The game is designed to be played on PC.

            • @Pazanski: Interesting.
I have a feeling that most of the exploits the cheaters use will be PC-to-PC. They won't affect cross-play users. So, PC still seems a little disadvantaged.

They've apparently announced that Keyboard+Mouse support for PS5/XSX is on the way. So that seems like the definitive way to play. More polish + less intrusion from cheaters = most fun.

        • It’s quite good now, hadn’t played it when it first came out but haven't had any bugs or issues.

    • Some of us even pre-ordered Sim City. I still have the scars from that one.

  • Probably a stupid question but does 'online only' mean it's the digital version, or that you can't buy it in store?

    • +1

      Can't buy the game instore.

      • +1

Ta. Assumed that but thought I'd ask.

      • I assume that would change once the game is actually released though?

        • Eventually stores will get stock.

  • +2

Same price at Amazon to pre order

    Battlefield 2042 - PlayStation 5

    • Will they wait until release day on Friday to ship it and then you don't get it until Monday/Tuesday anyway? Heck could be a whole week with the extended lockdowns now grinding parcels to a halt.

What's the point of pre-ordering if you dont even get it on release, that's why I'm going Big W, the stock will be there 9am Friday. There's not even a price advantage for amazon, its just matching. And all I have to do is wear a mask, Done.

      • You can actually check on the Amazon Page. Just make sure your home address is set as default then click on the Amazon listing. It will tell you what date it will be delivered by. For me it says Friday 22nd October. So I assume they post it the day before (Thursday 21st Oct) and use their own Amazon delivery service for fast next day delivery.

        • Then SA just sucks, 0/5 new game orders I preordered the past year don't come on release for me so I'm not holding my breath for this one. It has always been useless in that regard. Waiting the whole weekend and even Monday.

      • I'm not sure if it will be the same for BF2042 but I preordered TLOU Part II from Amazon and it arrived the evening on release day

would buy game…but computer has no gpu due to overprice market

    • +1

You have missed out quite a few good deals lately then

      • +8

I wouldnt say they were in any way "good" deals.

        • +2

Exactly. $800 over RRP instead of $1000 is never a good deal haha

  • +5

    $69 on PC.

    • +2

      😉

      • ;) ;)

        • ;) ;) ;)

    • +6

Imagine playing Battlefield on anything but PC.

      • +3

When a decent graphics card costs more than the next gen console I already have the Xbox Series X looks a lot more attractive.

I suspect my GTX 1060 would struggle with BF2042.

        • +2

I guarantee you a 1060 will struggle. I used to play BF5 on the 1080Ti I sold and it would not love it on a 32" monitor 1440p. 1060 will let you 'maybe' play it on 1080p with everything turned down and even then you'll probably be bottlenecked by the CPU you have with that card.

          • +1

@educalifa: The CPU won't be the problem as I upgraded to a Ryzen5 a month ago, but I cannot justify over $1000 for a graphics card update and the 1060 suffices for most of my library.

            • @Xenocaust: In that case you might be fine provided you're playing at 1080p/24" monitor. Just don't expect to go above the low graph settings or anything. 2042 has doubled the amount of players and the maps are even more interactive than before, all of that brings a much greater level of detail.

My CPU when playing BF5 with the 1080Ti was a i7 9700K and it would still max out a LOT! Battlefield 5 wasn't the most optimized game though

        • a decent gpu also performs better than a next gen console

you get what you pay for

      • Ps5 and xsx version should be able to be played with mouse and keyboard in the actual game.

This was confirmed in the last alpha test so hopefully they will keep it this way.

        • I feel sorry for the people who play against them.with controllers.

    • Where are you getting it for $69?

    • same with ps4, wonder if its a free upgrade

    • Origin launcher though, yuck.

  • +3

Pre-order? Hahahahahaha .. only for chumps sorry.

    • +5

Through other stores maybe, but not through Amazon

      1) Review embargos are lifted prior to shipping so easy to cancel
      2) Even if shipped and unhappy with the game Amazon has quite a generous automated refund process even if item has been used
      3) If between ordering and item being shipped, the item drops in price then the amount you preordered for will also be automatically reduced as part of their Preorder Price Guarantee
      4) If you live in an Amazon Flex service area, pretty much guaranteed to receive it on release date and if not, you jump onto chat and they will offer $5 or $10 Amazon Credit due to not receiving in on release date as part of their Preorder Price Guarantee

      • +5

I would still wait for reviews before making any purchase. Amazon or not.

        • +5

Then (in the case of Amazon), you may miss out on paying a lower price if the price briefly drops months, weeks or days prior to shipping and goes back up. See #3 comment.

For example, preorder today for $100. Item dropped to $70 briefly for 1 hour in a months time, your preordered price automatically gets updated to $70. Item then goes back up to $100 prior to shipping. You still pay $70 instead of $100. Because of that 1 hour when the price dropped to $70, you save quite a bit if the preorder price does not go down below $100 again.

Review embargoes usually are lifted about 2 days prior. More then enough time to cancel the preorder if you don't like what you read. And if you do like the reviews, you would have potentially saved some $$ if you preordered earlier and price had dropped along the way. Plus if you are unhappy with the game, free returns for opened games (although I would never do this).

So what is the risk exactly?

          • +2

@cute as duck: frankly i'm with sauce on this one, it doesn't happen often that a game is higher rrp than it was during pre order stage in fact in my experience they are usually cheaper a month out from launch if not sooner. Also the ability to mass generate these games doesn't really warrant the need for a pre-order (que people saying management look at pre-order sales) unless you are pre ordering a special edition with limited run you are really not achieving anything else for the fact you may be able to play from day 1

            • @[Deactivated]: Here are some recent examples of what I meant.

Biomutant PS4 had preorders opened about a year out from release. Originally a year out it was $69.

On release the price was $75

If you had originally preordered a year out, then the price dip in February 2021 would have automatically triggered and had been applied to your preorder resulting in a price of $68. If you had preordered a few days prior to release you would have paid $75.

It's not a lot granted, but there have been instances of this happening where if you had preordered well in advance it would have been $20-30 cheaper then if you simply ordered less than a week prior to release.

Cyberpunk 2070 (yeah terrible example I know lol) where people had preorders years out for $5X because of price dips months earlier that never quite got that low in the days leading up to it coming out.

I had a Cyberpunk 2070 preorder for $54 and I cancelled it after review embargo was lifted. But if reviews were stellar, I would have been quite happy with that ~$20 saving. On release from memory the price was $68+

Just some of the examples on the top of my head anyway.

We all agree though to wait for reviews, but fortunately Amazon allows you to cancel orders quite easily and you could actually benefit from paying less than a week or days out from release date if the reviews are great.

              • @cute as duck: or just wait for reviews to come out and dont encourage developers to release unfinished turds with pre order money

      • What the frick, i could of had $50 worth of amazon credit by now since 5/5 times they failed and delivered it after the weekend on a monday.

  • now i need to buy a gaming PC to play the game!!! Where's the DEALS!??

    • theres barely any pc deals for new games like that so sad lol

  • Thats a steal of a price

  • +2

    Same price at JB hi-fi.

  • +1

Anybody seen any specials for Gold edition for pc ?

  • $10 cheaper for the PS4/Xbox One/PC versions. No free upgrade for PS4 or Xbox One though.

  • Same price at JB Hifi but you can click and collect at JB Hifi

  • First time console owner — what's the general policy with returning games after they're opened? I generally play FPS on PC, but mine's just given up the ghost (5700XT) and am monitoring parts prices for a bit before I pull the trigger on a new build.

    • +1

Returns of opened games to physical stores for a change of mind is a challenge, they don't generally like it, but EB Games tends to be a bit better around the Christmas period.

People have reported better experience with Amazon.

    • +1

      Hey mate,
Honestly best bet is going to EB games. Once you have purchased a game from them you have up to 1 week to play it and return it if you don't like it. However, I think if you redeem any codes you wont be able too.

My recommendation is going to EB and getting them to price match JB Hi Fi or Big W deal and try it out. From my experience, generally the pre-order deals from Harvey Norman, Big W, Target etc. are generally cheaper or stay the same after it has been released.

  • Does anyone know if this is more like the original Battlefield series? I really enjoyed the older series of the franchise but hardly played BF1 as I just did not like the feel of that game… was disappointed.

Hope they have returned to their roots on this one, I've not even bothered looking as I lost interest since the last one…

    • This one has no single player only multiplayer.

    • +5

I've played the closed Beta test and from what I can tell the game needs a lot of polish in a few areas, particularly with class and weapon balancing. Flying vehicles felt very OP. Pretty sure they'll get nerfed, but every soldier now has the ability to spawn in with a anti-air rocket (meaning there's going to be plenty of threats as a pilot).

The support class gets a dart gun that heals and revives (but confirmed getting a nerf that removes the ability to revive).
There's no attrition system so every time you get a kill, the enemy drops an ammo bag pickup so you continuously are getting fed ammo, as not just camping in one spot. Everyone can bring their own ammo boxes (so even as a sniper, you can have bottomless ammo. Not sure if that's a good thing or not). 3D spotting is also mostly gone, with the recon being the only specialist that gets to 3D spot.

You can use any weapon and almost every gadget regardless of which class (or operator) you pick. The game does feel like Battlefield 3 and 4 overall, the solder visibility and silhouette is done fine (unlike BFV where soldiers were really hard to see in dark areas), time to kill is realistic (unlike BF1) and there is no random bullet deviation (so it rewards skilful shooting rather than based on luck).

      • awesome review cheers

  • Note that buying this won't get you early access to the game as this is being advertised as a incentive for pre ordering.

edit: Sorry my bad you do get early access.

"In-store pre-orders will receive their code at time of pre-order. Online delivery and click & collect orders will receive their code via email 72 hours after placing their pre-order"

  • +1

Before you hit pre-order, think about Battlefield V…

    • +1

I also think about BF4 and BF1, which are still enjoyed with lot of crowd online. If you like the franchise, getting it at this price is not that bad.

  • +2

Do NOT pre-order, wait for release, they won't run out of digital copies.

    • True. Prices will surely go up and down after the release.
Its about getting your hands on the early access with this purchase.

    • Is this not physical disc?

  • Thanks OP got one from Amazon

    • +1

Jeff bezos personally thanks you for supporting his flight to space

  • +1

This game will be a complete mess at launch… can't wait!

  • +4

Order from BigW guys - support local retailers!

  • for those who bought it.. why not wait and see how it is???

    • Cause we are going to play it regardless of it its trash or not.

  • Anyone had experience with preordering games from Big W? Do they arrive on release day?

    • yes got COD the day before

  • I don’t know why you guys bother pre-ordering

    You aren’t gonna miss out

    • People don't always necessarily do it not to miss out on the item its more a safe guard for some on securing the best price with the Amazon pre order price guarantee. With no cost to deposit, free shipping and the fact it can be cancelled at at time by the user, for some the old adage of better safe than sorry is warranted.
