First Time Building a PC. Need Help with Part Selection

Hi, I am building my own PC for the first time.

I picked out the parts, it says they are compatible on au part picker but I was just wondering if I would run into any issues, or I would need any extra cables etc

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Parts List:

CPU: Ryzen 5 5600X
CPU Cooler: Corsair iCUE H150i Elite
Motherboard: MSI B550-A PRO ATX
Memory: Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 16 GB (2x8) 3600
Storage: 1 TB Crucial SSD
GPU: 3070Ti
Case: Lian Li OC11 White Dyanmic
PSU: Corsair 850W Gold Certified
Fans: 6 Corsair iCUE SP RGB Elite 120 MM
Extra white wires for the aesthetic

Would I run into any issues with addressing the RGB lighting as it is a MSI motherboard with Corsair fans?

Thank you for your help!

The MSI motherboard has 2x 3-pin ARGB headers so it will work.

    • Thanks! Do you think the overall build is fine? :)

      • The "Extra white wires for the aesthetic" are a good idea.

The whole white focus, and especially the white Corsair fans, seem like a huge money sink. But different things make different people happy.

        • Thanks! Im still contemplating whether i should spend the extra 2-300 for the white build

You will need a mouse and keyboard too…

    Maybe a monitor…

  • Nice!

I just helped me partner finish a similar build but with the XL version of the case Coolermaster for liquid cooler and fans.

Are you getting the white version of the PSU as well? I know the PSU is hidden but it comes with white cables.

    • I didnt know there was a white PSU. Do you think a 750W would be fine? or should I keep it with 850

      • +1

Yep! The white RM850x looks nice. It's got a 750w variant which we bought for $150 during an eBay sale last month.

It depends on your usage. I'd put all your parts etc into a PSU calculator like this one and see what it suggests. The resulting recommendation will depend on peripherals connected and whether you plan to overclock and stuff. Officially Nvidia say you only need a 750w for a 3070Ti so you might be able to save a few dollars

We went with a 750w and think it will be fine. GPU is currently an old GTX 970 as we're waiting on a 3060Ti deal to come up here so that will use a bit less than your 3070Ti regardless.

Edit - Here's a quick photo of the build. Note that we haven't taken of the clear plastic on the glass yet so it doesn't look as shiny. All the RGB is controlled via the Asus motherboard software and syncs up really nicely.

        • Amazing! Your build looks so nice!!

Im just afraid on the day of building I'll run into issues like a wire I needed, or after building the fans wont sync up because MSI and Corsair ICue or something

          Thanks for all your help!!!

    • Hi I had one more question

Would I need a GPU stand for my 3070ti?

Its a colorful igame 3070ti, looks beefy, I'm not sure about it. Thanks!

      • I don't know to be honest. I've never used one before so am not in a position to comment. Sorry!

  • Purchase the NVMe Crucial SSD. Everything else is good.

Is that sleeved extension cables or replacement cables for the Corsair PSU?

Do you have a spare USB 3 drive to install the OS?

    • Sleeved extension I'd be getting separetly.
Im getting a white 750W psu now, it comes with the white cables!

      • The included white PSU cables should be long enough.

        • Oh okay, no need for the extra cables then. Thanks!

  • Two very good sites if you don't know about them:

https://www.logicalincrements.com/ - Gives good stratification of parts to make sure nothing bottlenecks
https://au.pcpartpicker.com/ - Keep everything organised w/ price and make sure nothing clashes

  • Looks like a great build. Well balanced. Everyone seems to love the case. There's nothing else you need. I wouldn't change a thing. Enjoy building it.

Theres no built in fan hub in the case right? Then your going to need a fan hub
    https://www.pccasegear.com/products/31080/silverstone-1-to-8…
    LED fan hub will help.
    https://www.pccasegear.com/products/40567/corsair-rgb-fan-le…
    Or splurge on the Commander
    https://www.pccasegear.com/products/39193/corsair-commander-…
Or a whole bunch of splitters. I've got a cheapo 5 hub fan thingy that plugs into my motherboard.

    • I think the corsair cooler and the fans come with their own controller, not a 100% sure tho

  • Yeah make sure you get an nvme SSD that goes in the motherboards m.2 slot, not a regular sata SSD as they are slower.

  • I just completed the rebuild of my old desktop and uses the 5600X. It is great. You will love it.

    • what was the old cpu?

      • It was an old i5-6700 5.5 years old…

        • I am going to do the same and waiting for 5600x to be delivered. Upgrading from i5-2400.

@bazingaa: You will see an even bigger improvement with that i5-2400. I am very pleased with the 5600X. My only gripe is that the PC now uses 10-15W more when idle :-)

            • @jeeg: Assembled it mate, but it heats a lot under load with stock cooler. I didn't have any system fans earlier so even used old CPU fan as a system fan, idle/light load at 37-45 but goes upto 90 under CPU-Z stress test, all cores get stabled at around 4.25 GHz (Power is at 75 W), feels like to it downclocks to keep the temperature down. I haven't done any overclocking. i5-2400 was a 95 W TDP CPU but it was pretty chill at 3.3 GHz, I noticed it had a bigger heatsink than the AMD stock one.

How is your thermals ? did you use an after market cooler as well ? This is my first AMD build and I have always got good thermals with Intel stock coolers though.Remembering the good old days where AMD CPUs failed due to the heat, happened to my mate's PC as well after fan failure.
