How to Clean The Deck? (Never Owned a Deck)

Hi team,

First house, first deck. I have a dirty deck, with some white deposits from my shoes… (see picture attached) https://ibb.co/bRx9G1m

I just wanted to know what is your method of cleaning your deck?

The Cabot method and cleaning solution was was below….is that good enough to follow when Bunnings reopens to the public.

  • Sweep the deck of any loose dirt
  • Pressure wash it down to remove loose dirt
  • Add the cleaner to the water
  • Scrub using a deck broom/brush
  • Rinse off with with pressure washer.

Staining/Oil:
Previous vendor has left me some Cabots Aquadeck in the shed which was nice of him, but after seeing some deals here and some comments people have said not to use it. Not sure why?

Any help would be great:) Thanks

  • The Cabots Aquadeck is an oil-based treatment, in my understanding, so won't clean the deck.

I just use that method described, but don't add the cleaner, a couple of times a year. Having said that, I have intentionally let my deck weather rather than oil / treat it.

You need to decide which look you want to go with.

    • Yeah I knew the Aquadeck was for after cleaning. (Will look into that down the track)

So you don't use cleaner? Just pure brush and water?

Pressure washer water, and a stiff brush if there are stubborn stains. But that is purely my choice to retain that look of my deck.

Napisan in a bucket of warm water and a stiff broom.

High pressure washer and deck attachment
brings her up good as new.

  • Sugar Soap in warm water and a stiff broom, hosing the cleaned area off before it dries to get rid of any left behind Sugar Soap solution.

  • I'm no expert but that looks like Merbau. I use Flood's Spa-n-Deck. It's a water soluble acrylic and is very easy to apply. Like suggested, use very little napisan in water and scrub the deck, then wash it off thoroughly.

    • Yeah I believe it is Merbau. That is also what the Aquadeck is left in the shed (CABOT'S AQUADECK DECKING OIL MERBAU 4L)

      • Spa n deck is not an oil. It’s water soluble and seeps into the wood, so has to be applied when the deck is soaking wet. I don’t believe it’s the same as Cabot’s decking oil.

EDIT: I get it. The Cabot’s product is for Merbau.
