The ultimate red team gaming laptop of this generation. At a historical low (not like it have been discounted before but hey a deal is a deal right).

  • WQHD (2560 x 1440) 165Hz 3ms display with full DCI-P3 color space, unsure about brightness, Jarrod only reviewed the 300hz option with a ~300nits display.
  • Ryzen 9 5900HX 8c16t 3.3-4.6hz
  • RX 6800M with 12GB GDDR6, around 110-160W power draw
  • 16GB 3200mhz ram
  • 512GB nvme SSD

At full potential, the 6800M is just below the rtx3080 mobile and better than the rtx3070 mobile. However, do note that two things are needed-first that you replace the ram to 1rx8 ones, just like the legion 5, and second, you should connect it to an external monitor since the G15 does not come with a mux switch.

With that said, due to how expensive high wattage 3080 laptops are, this should still be a deal even if one spent the extra for an external monitor and new ram. Of course, if your budget doesnt allow it or you just want a laptop and laptop alone, I would recommend for a 3070 legion sale.

i have been thinking between this and Legion 5i pro ( 11800H and 3070 140W ) any thoughts? not considering the price and the delivery times

I always lean towards more on RTX than Radeon, so I will go for Legion instead
Check out this very sad review, stay away from this laptop or maybe he is being so unlucky?
      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EyKEGOj7jc8

      • For my use case which is an overall device with gaming ,work and some studies the Legion 5i pro works well (port selection , webcam , mux switch ,16:10 display etc . ) paired with 2680$ EDU pricing for a benchmark comparison: https://nanoreview.net/en/laptop-compare/lenovo-legion-5i-pr…

That video broke my heart ! hoping it was a defective product and he was just unlucky !Thanks for you comment mate :)

      • Did he just reset Windows and update drivers to fix the crashing and game stutter issues?

    • hmm Im in the same position hey. legion i5 pro(11800H, 3070, 140w) or this all AMD Asus rog strix. What did you end up doing? Did you pull the trigger?

      • very hard decision but i went with the legion 5i pro ! i like it being the overall device work/game/general use (arguably the better processor , the webcam, 16:10 /brighter screen, MUX switch ,port selection and the stingray colour ! ) . for pure gaming with ext screen the AMD would be the option and also better battery life.
Im getting mine tomorrow hopefully! .Hope this helps your decision !

yeah brightness is fantastic i remember being frustrated by a former laptop that was dim. As for battery, idc, you could remove the battery on my laptop and i would never notice. The mux switch, brightness, camera kill switch really appeal to me given my current web cam is taped up lol. But the Rog Strix has 12gb on the rx6800m will that make it more future proof, ROG Strix just sounds more menacing and that R9 and the fable ryzen power efficiency maybe means it runs cooler and its available right now a short drive from here. Hmm. Decisions, decisions, decisions.

I tried waiting to build a PC but yeeesh, 3070ti is slippery as heck at the price that justifies a PC build…but then I'd need a monitor…plus you cant belly surf with a PC. Im just going to close my eyes and pull the trigger on the Lenovo 5i pro, hopefully it goes out of stock so i can be forced to be patient and wait.

          • @grey zetsu: haha i totally get you ! The 12gb on the RTX6800M was the trade off in my mind for the other pros in the legion and also the fact that an ext monitor would be required to get the full potential of the 6800M and agreed it would run cooler and advantages of all AMD . Personally would have waited for other 6800M laptop but who knows when! and I was too impatient :D and lenovo shipped in less than 48 hours ! Will report back when i get my hands on it :D

  • Oh, so those mythical Radeon laptops do in fact exist

  • I was watching these videos last night and was considering buying this laptop. Do you know how much the upgraded RAM would cost on top?

    • You can get 16GB 3200Mhz DDR4 SODIMM Laptop Ram on eBay for $125-$135 - if this isn't what's needed then I got no idea.

  • Missed opportunity by AMD to throw in a RX 6800 die, at least these cards have an "M" suffix.

    • I reckon its due to the same reason that the 3080laptop is cut from desktop 3070 die-that the heat output is just a bit too unmanagable for laptop cooling solutions.

      • I definitely agree on that GA102 was too large and power hungry with its wide memory subsystem to fit in this class of laptop. However, looking at the die size and power draw of a RX 6800, a ~160w 256bit RX 6800M would have been quite feasible. This laptop could already accommodate a GPU like that with its current cooling system. Certainly is disappointing AMD didn't go this route; Radeon haven't been wildly competitive this generation due to insane demand.

        • Ah i see. Its really strange why AMD didnt go with 6800 chip then..its not like they didnt have quite some time to see what nvidia brought up with their 30 gen laptop cards

I bought one from PB Tech (New Zealand) at the beginning of August. I was too keen to wait for local stock. I paid about $3,000. Very happy with it.

Upgraded the RAM as per Jarrod'sTech YouTube reviews. Added 2 TB NVMe as well.

This is an excellent price. Recommend.

    • Can you give some feedback on it's performance @ 1440p in games?

      • +1

        Any particular games?

RDR2 is getting 100ish fps 1440p using Hardware Unboxed settings. This is via USB C to DisplayPort. Via HDMI gave me much lower results.

        • Is it capable of running that well on its native panel?

          • +1

@Azenghoul: I haven't tried, but from what I understand, no. It's slightly lower on laptop screen. Something about a lack of a mux switch. If I remember, I'll run a full RDR2 benchmark on both laptop and external monitors later in the day.

          • +1

@Azenghoul: I ran the benchmarks but then lost my screenshots. From memory, running on "Turbo" fan setting, external display via USB C to DisplayPort got something like 110 - 120 fps on Hardware Unboxed optimised settings at 1440p.

Same test but on the native panel yielded something like 90 - 100 fps average. Significant difference.

First run I forgot to change the fan settings from Silent to Turbo, I got 80 fps (external display).
