Battlefield 3 Official Game Guide (Printed Guide Book) $10 BigW

90

I came across this full colour, approx. A4 size, 350 page paperback game guide for Battlefield 3 at BigW. Its physical price tag on the shelf was $19.92. I tried scanning it but it kept coming up with errors, it appears there are multiple barcodes on the back and they seem to confuse the scanner. (Prices/barcodes for $19.99 USD, $22.99 Can, £12.99 GBP, $AUD 34.95). My "solution" was to hold my finger across the rest of the barcodes, scanning just the first digits. Their system comes up showing the price as $10. http://upload.ozbargain.com/2012/03/06/7930_img_0099.jpg I then proceeded to the self serve checkout and bought the book, no problems.

This seems to sell for $20 for the downloadable ebook, and upwards of $25 everywhere else. A good price for some Battlefield merchandise and for a strategy guide.

  • Is that legal?

    • Yes, it's a fault with the system you are entitled to it's inconvenience.

However you could do much worse such as scan a barcode for a KG of water and buy 1KG of lamb chops.

    • Yes it's legal. I wasn't defrauding anyone, it is in their computerised system as $10, I think my store was just slack at changing the shelf price. My "solution" was instructions on how to "unconfuse" their scanner.

Unfortunately I couldn't get it for free as it scanned for a lower price than the shelf price, see the Scanning Code of Practice (Woolworths are a signatory so I assume BigW are included, they should be a member of the Australian Retailers Association otherwise…) http://www.retail.org.au/index.php?module=uploads&func=downl…

Actually, no… Big W isn't a part of this and neither are stores like Kmart and Target. I'm so sick of explaining to cheap arses that come into our stores and try to tell us that they should get the item for free for being incorrectly priced on the shelf. It's for SUPERMARKETS only as their items are set at lower price points than these stores. Technically, Big W, Kmart and Target are department stores, not supermarkets and this Code of Practice don't apply to them.

Edit: Not implying you're a cheap arse. I'm talking about people who come in and try to get the stupidest things for free, like a shirt they paid $10 for because it was marked at $9.

        • Thanks for that, actually the "get it for free" line was just a bit of tongue-in-cheek. I didn't realise the code was voluntary, and only applied to supermarkets, even though there are department stores which are members of the ARA. I wasn't even contemplating doing that, as the scanned price was lower than the shelf price to start with.

        • In your example, at K-Mart if the item scans higher than the marked price you get a $10 Gift Voucher, so you'd make $1 and a Free Shirt!

        • No you don't.

    • The item is in the system, it reads off the right name, and the barcode was already on the book.

  • BigW price is now $10. I paid that a few weeks ago….with the $10 price tag on the front :-).

    • LOL

    • Yup, I also got this for $10 the other week, with a $10 price sticker on the back (Somebody put A $5 price sticker on the front lol)

How come no-one bothered to post the deal here for the benefit of others?

I am of the opinion that it's not a "bargain".!

Shouldn't the game guide just be one line? You know "run around like a maniac, shoot everything that moves". Done.

    • Well, that, plus put your fist through the wall and kick the crap out of the arm of the couch when you keep getting "raped" by griefers (guilty on both counts).

    • It should be, but it's 352 pages thick!

Guide to battle field 3. Use USAS, use FAMAS, use M249. Keep the noisy end of said weapons pointed at enemies. Keep away from noisy end of enemy USAS, FAMAS and M249.

I expect your $10 in the mail.
