Staria - WTF Were You Thinking Hyundai?

I generally like Hyundai automotive products and quite like some of their designs. But, the new Staria is the most hideous car I have seen since the Nissan Prairie.

What's your opinion?

Yep box cars are way better looking than rounded rectangles.

Looks like a Honda Odyssey that has put weight on

entitled old man crapping on including an otherwise pretty good talk about it if anyone was curious

      • Oh please: My farmacy sells better stuff to assist vomiting!

  • +7

Well it is a people mover

    • yep, just competing with others of it's kind. Budget gone into maximum space inside the cabin.

  • Does it some with drift mode?

  • What does Kia offer as an alternative?

    • Carnival

    • The carnival.

it doesn't look any worse than half the modern cars i see, the only modern cars that look good tend to be the sports cars.

It's a polarising look for sure, but Nissan Murano, Ssangyong Stavic and AU Falcon have it covered for terrible looks in more recent times than the Nissan Prairie IMHO.

    • I'll one up you with the SsangYong korando (the old one). You need to keep a vomit bag in the car just in case you see one.

    • How dare you insult the almighty AU Falcon??

    looks fine to me

  • I actually don't mind it, it's a nice change up from the usual van.
Just styling is a bit ahead of it's time,
In a few years many cars are going to be going the same way i feel similar to the cybertruck's simple aerodynamic lines.

Having said that i still probably wouldn't buy one, although sitting in it looks pretty good.

    • The front looks "futuristic", like numerous electric concept cars. But the sides are weirdly bulbous and flat, almost like an afterthought. Maybe keeping costs down with the simplified sheet metal?

      • Front looks like the Cybertruck, rounded so they can get it through ADR (and those who said Cybertruck won't make ADR)

Have you seen the new wrx…

    • Yup.. eyes are still sore.

Just looks like a Toyota Torago front welded to a Nissan Elgrand arse end and smoothed over in Cyberpunk 2077…

    • That would be 'Tarago'.

Its a little ugly I guess, but i love all of those windows! Probably would be lovely to drive around in with all of that natural light.

  • Front reminds me of Mitsubishi Colt, butt ugly

the problem is assuming that Hyundai Kia care about the thoughts of a market that is only 25 mil people an 1 mil cars sold per year.

this van is perhaps aimed more at asian markets which seems to love spacey style quasi lux people movers like nissan le grandes and toyota alphards… more vans that i too find hard to look at but they dont expect me to ever buy one, not that i have a use for such a thing

  • I did a little vom in my mouth….

  • It’s no cybertruck.

    • +1

But it meets ADR. Cybertruck has a chance. People are going to be unhappy.

  • Looks alright to me but i'd rather have a Alphard if i'm after something like that.

  • Beauty is a subjective thing….

  • May I offer your eyes the displeasure of the Toyota Alphard or the Nissan Elgrand? Doesn't matter what version, they are all hideous, and the Micra taillights on Elgrand are the barf on the sewer cake of design.

    • I still see at least 2 elgrands around my suburban every now and then.

  • Looks cool for a people mover.

  • Back looks a little like a lancer wagon and the front looks like a Ford probe but I kind of dig it.

  • +1

Are you kidding me. That looks great.

  • At least they are trying something a bit different?

  • Reminds me of the newer model Delicas.

  • Good see a car manufacture actually do something a little bit different.Love it or hate it,good on Hyundai.

  • Looks good to me, but I currently drive a Delica D:5
