      They were a star prize in 1960 in a fight between EMI and Philips and were one of the main names in small household appliances, developed an automatic toaster in 1949, quite an exiting product at the time, a steam iron in '54 well before they were commonplace. A series of mergers in the 60's found their name on "hotpoint" products in the UK They also trained the two engineers who left to form Russel Hobbs in 1959.

      Since ~ 2000, they've been yet another "east Asian" product but there is quite a pedigree behind the name.
