Barty Single Origin - Have You Got Your Order?

How are you Ozbargain, R U OK?

I made an order with Barty Single Origin and not a peep from the CS team that my order as been delayed.

According to Barty more than 600 people have received their orders.

I tried to neg a deal to highlight this fact but it got revoked 'as I was negging someone giving away free coffee'.
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/11060997/redir

butt hurt?… I am curious to know of those that have actually ordered who has received their order. There is plenty of feedback from people who have ordered and not received anything, despite the fact rep keeps posting more deals.

Full disclosure i also signed up to their strava challenge to walk steps everyday, let's see if i truly get next day dispatch.

I'm still waiting on my order and will not disclose my number, as I believe CS should be on the front foot with delays as long as these.

In the mean time i'll content myself looking at the picture of a courier driver not wearing a mask properly, a blog about shipping delays and some videos about coffee…

I thought this thread were about Ash Barty…
    My bad. lol

    • +4

Great player of Australian Origin though.

      • +2

        Is she single (of origin)?

        • +2

          She play singles?
Other than that, I know nothing of her personal life, and only that of her accomplishments as a sports person.

    • +2

She does love a good coffee our Ash.

  • +4

My one says its pending pickup from sendle (since 8/9) . However seems some people have already received their order even though the sendle update was still pending pickup (or it was updated afterwards). SO , i am hoping my order just rocks up on my doorstep very soon!

    • +5

In the same boat as you Smitty, would have been faster for me to crawl there, do a pick up and roll back home than wait for the delivery. I have chased them up but their bot always says no one is home.
This is giving me anxiety! I've always supported small businesses but this is giving me a sour taste about their service.

  • +2

Ask for a refund, your item will magically turn up next day

Ordered the Hario v60 starter kit the day the deal came out - I'm in no particular rush but I am starting to think it may never arrive. They did email saying that my address in the system was incorrect, which I went in and it looked just fine to me - other than that nothing, but I haven't chased it up either.

    • +2

I got the same email… On both of my orders (one for aeropress and the other for coffee)

    • +3

I got one and I didn't even order anything. I did go through to checkout right before payment though but decided against buying one. I suspect it's just an email to justify delays.

  • +1

Still waiting for mine however my order has been changed to picked up.

  • +10

Still awaiting my order which is now 21 days without an update. I defended them earlier on their first post about them being a small business, but this was before they started posting several more ads up without sending any orders, its just bad practice. Haven't had a single update with my order still saying "pending pick up". The beans and cans I ordered are at least 3 weeks old now if it's already been packed.

  • +3

Waiting for order since 10/9 - no update with the sendle pending pick up since 16/9.

  • +3

I'm curious if to know how come there aren't many more negs on the deals if people are not receiving their orders.

  • +4

Bloody horrible service. Not buying again even at 50% discount.

  • +4

Yep ordered aeropress 31 aug, sendle created 8 Sept and nothing yet. Glad it's not just me.

I understand it's a small business but 3 weeks delivery (and counting) for local shipping isn't quite good enough.

Are refunds still even an option? Or can we do PayPal refund if the beans aren't as advertised? (Meant to be fresh iirc)

  • +5

Ordered 17/9, order still not processed yet. despite this, I received notification today that the upcoming charge of the subscription will be processed shortly

    • Were you able to get this sorted? Same issue on my end, shipping time > subscription period.
      Still waiting on a reply.

      • I have received my first delivery recently. My second and third week orders are processed but still unfulfilled and not shipped, so looks like I won't be receiving these any time soon. Tomorrow in principle my 4th order will be processed.

I like the coffee of the first order but need a reliable coffee supplier so looks like I will have to cancel my subscription after only receiving 1 out of the 4 free deliveries.

    • Removing your cc number won't do anything as you already authorised your actual CC during the purchase. Removing it only removes it from being saved in their system usually

    • I have my orders in the mid 2000s.

    • +16

Firstly, I have not once slagged off your crew, and though I cannot apologise on their behalf, I can however apologise if this thread has caused them undue duress.

The reason why so many people are getting p*** is that you have not notified them officially of delays through email, or on your website and continued to promote on here.

Also see below taken from your last deal.

Our weekly coffee subscriptions is always on time as we never need to wait on equipment or kit to arrive from our warehouse in Brisbane … so next day dispatch is for real.

I didn't need to make an order but wanted to support a business that I thought was doing right, but three weeks without being notified properly about delays is just poor form.

Now i'm curious to wait to see how long it will be before I receive my order.

      • +1

sorry to disappoint and thanks again for your support, working as hard as we can, trying not to burn out our crew. 👊

        • +8

Agreed, Barty you need to have better communications with your customers, email them and let them know "hey guys there's a delay", instead of saying "it's been shipped, wait for it to arrive" or "the Sendle update isn't accurate".
You created an expectation with your posts and that hasn't been met.

I would be happy to wait a few more weeks if I know the progress of my order. I'm pissed off because you've kept people guessing, you also need to put yourself in the customer's perspective.

Yes, I could have bought elsewhere, but I'm all for supporting our local businesses.

          • @Posted: ok cool, valid, we learning as we go having received a massive volume of orders. I promise that a weekly update where your order status is at will be sent out.

    • I reckon Barty you are in the wrong place . You should be working for the Aust Govt as a diplomat .

  • I placed the order on 03/09 and received shipping information on 08/09. Got my order today (22nd). :)
    just be patient:)

        • +4

I did, they said it was sent off ages ago, but there's been no changes on sendle at all. I sent a follow up about a week ago to both Barty and their website with no response.

    Ordered on 31 Aug.

8 Sept - Ready to Sendle. i.e. pending pickup.

19 Sept - Still stuck on pending pickup. I messaged and asked for a date when they think it will be fair for me to seek a refund.

20 Sept - Status updated to the item being picked up.

    22 Sept - Item received.

I'm located in Victoria if that helps.

    • that solves it

19 Sept - Still stuck on pending pickup. I messaged and asked for a date when they think it will be fair for me to seek a refund.

      thanks

    • Wow you lucky. Everything is the same as you and I'm in Victoria too. But still haven't arrived even though it was picked up on the 20th like you. I've sent Sendle a message to see about the delay as it is now past the delivery estimate

  • +1

No, I didn't receive my order either. They have the weirdest customer service.
I ordered the Aeropress and some coffee on 30th August.
I got an email saying they didn't like sending me ground coffee because it should always be ground fresh before drinking- BUT that they would fulfil the order.
2 weeks later I still didn't have it, so I contacted them, and got some email saying they were a small business and hadn't dispatched it yet, and COVID etc.
Then I got an email asking me to review their coffee-
So I gave them a bad review.
Then they rang me and offered me a refund.
They are so weird, I thought it was dispatched.
On the phone I told the guy I didn't really want to give a bad review, but don't like being asked to review products I haven't received. He was unresponsive to my banter and just offered and processed a refund.

  • Got my order today could see on the bean it was roasted two days ago - so delivery itself was very quickly (metro Sydney) - I think this is just as they mentioned above they're roasting the beans to order. (note: did get sendle shipping info like only a few days after my order on the 30th of August)

Did wish it came sooner but still happy to have made the purchase. Just wait it out guys.

    • +2

See I would be completely fine with this if they just told us that they were roasting the beans daily and that's why the order was delayed. Instead I was told that the order was packed 3 weeks ago for pickup, and they were waiting for sendle.

      • +1

My order doesn't even contain beans!

I'm still waiting for Barty's email reply and updates.

    • Others had said their beans didn't have a roast dates before so its only something they did recently.

Why are they creating sendle tracking numbers before orders are even ready to be sent?

    • +1

What was your order number? Approximate like 1xxx, 2xxx?

  • +1

Ordered a Comandante grinder and beans on 1st Sept. Marked for pickup 8th. Didn't get picked up.

Emailed on 17th, about the lack of shipping updates, and asked if there was an issue. Told promptly:

"Your order has been sent off and is on its way to you. It takes a while for our tracking to update, so keep an eye out for it."

OK, fair enough. Waited another week, but no updates. Still marked for pickup. Saw all the issues people were having here, and reached out to support again, looking for transparency. Their response :

"We are more than happy to prioritise your order for $9.95 or we can refund it to you."

Great, so they're liars. Never was sent, despite being told explicitly that it was. Now they want me to pay extra to have my $450 order from 3 weeks ago prioritised. An order that was supposedly already sent.

    Never once an apology, either.

So I've cancelled my order and suggest anyone on the fence do the same. At least that was quick to process…

    • +1

      Same Here.

Ordered Cafelat Robot on 16th, marked for pick up on 16th. Didn’t get picked up.

Emailed on 20th, the suspicious email about address and about the lack of shipping updates, and asked if there was an issue. The seller replied:

“ your order has been sent off and is on its way to you. It takes a while for our tracking to update, so keep an eye out for it.”

OK, fair enough. Waited for few more days but no updates. Still marked for pickup. Saw all the issues people were having here. This time, I contacted Sendle (the courier) about the shipping updates. Their response :

“Sendle tried to pick up the order on 16th and seller sent them back as the order was not ready. Per Sendle, theSeller never rearranged picked since”

On 23rd, I contact the seller again looking for clarification. Their response:

“ As per your order, if your tracking is stuck on pickup, we'd be happy to priority pick & pack for an additional $9.95 if it hasn't left our HQ already.”

Same as it was pointed out above, they're liars. Never was sent, despite told me being told that it was sent. Now they want me to pay extra. An order that was supposedly already sent.

On 24th, they sent me an email saying the Cafelat Robot that I bought and paid is not available?!?! So they lied again, and sold me an item that they did not have and took more than a week to tell me that.

I replied back asking for a clarification, and all they did was offering other product (same product in different colour) or refund. They also contacted me via phone asking the same so I cancelled my order.

Yes, it can happen that you sell an item that is oos without knowing. I understand. However, you don’t shops don’t lie to their customer like they do.

      Never once an apology, either.

They kept saying that too many order to process and they are a small team. Again, I get that. However, they must knew that they are a small team and of course, they knew your order capacity but kept selling the product emphasising that they doing for a good reason. They receiving too many order is not a concern of customers.

I also want to warn others buying from this seller. Unless you are ready for what I have gone through.

Ordered back on the sixth, still haven't received anything. Contacted them weeks ago to find out what was going on, have tried to be super patient and understanding because I know things are tricky at the moment. For nearly three weeks they've been telling me 'your order has been shipped, Sendle just takes a while to update'. Over and over.

Anyway they just hit me up to pay $10 to prioritise my order? Even though they have spent the last three weeks swearing up and down that it's already sent. The absolute audacity.

    • +5

Made my blood boil too. Especially being told this so bluntly from their "qualified mental health professional" manning support. I was NOT OK, you could say, and honestly suspect this month hasn't been great for her either.

    • +1

Its BS the way they have treated customers. According to this comment they say most orders have been delivered last week. They claim delivery has been delayed so those delivered orders would have been packed 4+ days before so last week, they would have been packing those orders that hadn't been delivered and maybe caught up on their backlog.
Why would they ask customers still waiting for orders to pay an extra $10 for priority knowing they would get to their order very soon or had already been packed?

      • +1

Yeah this one rubbed me the wrong way too - I'm in no rush so happy to just wait it out but on on the one hand its "we are a small made to order place overwhelmed with the number of orders" and then its "but for $10 we can forget about all that and actually get your order to you". I get it from their side, they have too many orders so they have to prioritise, but monetising their lack of preparation in posting these deals just doesn't seem right to me.

    I see your on bartjawien

I think the main concern everyone has is the lack of communication and transparency over their orders.
I am like everyone else in order limbo placed on 13/9, label generated on 16/9.
Emailed 23/9 as the sendle tracking hadn't been updated. Added onto an email chain for why its delayed and not really answered.
I think my biggest gripe is my item isn't even coffee beans and it was just the V60, which should be in stock or not. I somewhat expected it to an easy order to ship no hassle. The small bag of coffee that gets added to the cart automatically. I'm fairly indifferent and to be honest quite happy to forgo it at this point.
If it's not in stock, i expect the site to warn me at least this is a backorder or prevent me from ordering.

I guess from everyone's messages it's on average a 3 week delay from order to door.
I think if Barty is reading this, it might be more appeasing to the community, if you put on the website there is a delay of about 3 weeks from time to order?
But if this was applicable to all items on the site I then propose the question, do you have any of the items in stock?

Humbly from a man who is just waiting on a V60

    PS
I also have another order which was placed a few days later from this one which had coffee beans, but I expect the reason that is delayed due to the demand for fresh roasted coffee, so I'll be fair and wait for that.

    • Don't think it's the bean problem!

    • So just for a frame of reference, got order today (1/10/21). So for all order to door is about 3 weeks. Overall item came as described. I think it was mentioned somewhere on one of the of the deals posted, that potentially they did not hold stock for some of the coffee gear itself, which I think may be correct. The shipping from Barty to me was only 48hrs (Within Metro Sydney), so yeah, for others who are still waiting.

  • Hey guys, we launched this on Friday, if you're not on the mailing list because you don't like receiving spam, you won't be receiving our orders update, here is the link if you'd like to know more: https://bartysingleorigin.com/blogs/news/the-coffee-biz-ment…

    • I didn't add a email, used mobile
can I get an update. I private messaged you

I want my coffee don't want to cancel

  • +7

Ordered 31/08/21, got an email saying it was on it's way on the 8th, Sendle has only just updated to say it's been picked up on Friday 24/08/21.
Got an email saying my address was wrong which I checked and it wasn't.
Going by the communication I've received from Barty my beans are now at least 2-3 weeks old.

I get that you can have issues with covid and you don't have a lot of staff, if that's the case then don't make another two deals to add even more workload.
Also getting really defensive about people "slagging off your crew" when they're genuinely wondering where their weeks late orders are isn't a good look.

    • All good, we've increased our crew to be able to manage emails and order enquiries so … asking us anytime, we've peeps on chat available 24/7.

  • Didn't get my order as they twice declined two different cards.
And coincidently I'm receiving spam txt messages after signing up with them.
Anyone else getting messages about shipping delays and to click a link in the message from a Aus mobile number?

  • Got my order today. Very happy with the products purchased. Shame about the delivery, but happy to support Aussie businesses.

  • Got mine today

  • +2

Why would you book 3000 orders with no means to provide delivery? You're then talking about mental health, and staff burnout but it's clearly just poor management. You've made agreements with thousands of people to provide a product and taken money, with no means to meet your end of the agreement as a micro business. Why are there no order limits to look after the mental health of your customers and staff? Dodgy boss vibes for DAYS.

Girlfriend ordered 31st of august, was told can't deliver to PO boxes (was actually a parcel locker that I have received a few Sendle orders to already, so I call shenanigans), so address has been updated for weeks and the status is still unfulfilled.

I did grinder homework as a non-coffee drinker and forwarded her the deal, now I'm hearing from her every now and then about how the grinder hasn't even shipped yet, kinda stressful for no reason yeah?

    • +5

Barty don't warehouse equipment, they are essentially dropship resellers of Alternative Brewing when it comes to their brewing gear, meaning the customer has no transparency over the pick and pack of the actual product because its behind another commercial shipping order. This is common in speciality coffee webstores that offer brewing gear, but I've never seen it handled this poorly. Barty bulk create shipping manifests for orders to cut down costs, creating misleading time frames, and also don't seem to display stock quantities for items, causing further delays and disappointment. Even if these items are in stock, they need to be first shipped from QLD into NSW for adding bean orders and Barty branding, then Sendle'd to you.

My advice for gear, having made the same mistake: go direct to AB/Coffee Parts, or a local reseller with known stock.

  • Got my order today - 4 weeks to the day. All good. Coffee good. Grinder works great, Delter tried to kill my by scolding me with hot water. User error though. Happy with the cup of coffee once I figured it out.

Thanks Barty. Hope you're getting on top of it all.

  • Mine took 2 weeks, so I was 'charged' for next shipment before first arrived. Actually, it was longer after couriers please just carded me when I was home.

What do people think about the quality?
I got an unmarked bag apart from "Barty" written on it and a date.

I'm no expert but compared to Airjo beans these ones look small, dry and miss-shaped. Maybe that's just the the style of where they grew though, I have no idea as no info accompanied the beans apart from a date 29/10.
Even weirder postage label says they were shipped on the 24th??

    • Size has no baring on quality, just variety.

Adequately roasted beans should be dry. If they look oily, they're likely over-roasted and aging, and you're literally witnessing the flavour of the bean sweat away.

Miss-shaped again is not a good indicator of quality, though some farmers do grade their beans with this in mind. If they look mulched, it could indicate poor processing or harvesting.

I don't think highly of Barty as an operation, but I'll tell you that their green beans are of higher quality in a speciality coffee sense than Airjo. No idea how well they roast though.

      • Thanks, sounds like I've been getting things backward thinking the oil sheen on Airjo beans was from a better roast or fresher…
Just wish Barty would write where the beans are from on the bag, I like to know which which exotic third world country I'm pretending to holiday in when I drink coffee.

  • I have 4 processed orders.

I am still waiting for the coffee to arrive.

Could understand if there are delays but lack of communication is poor customer service.

  • 4 weeks and haven't received my order.
