Metal Gear Solid V: The Definitive Experience is now 75% off. Personally really enjoyed Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, amazing game mechanics and there's some really funny moments (and cool references) scattered throughout the game. Highly reccomend.

  • Is this better with a keyboard/mouse than PS3/PS4?

    • The game was perfectly fine for me on mouse and keyboard, but that's probably because I've always used them. YMMV, if you're more used to controllers then you might enjoy the game more using those.

    Great game, kojima!

    • +9

Oh did Hideo Kojima make this game? He should really put his name on it somewhere so that people know!

      • +1

Yeah I kinda wished he would make it more obvious he had a hand in making this game. I had no idea too!

  • Does this still hold up?

    • +7

Why wouldnt it? It's only 5 or so years old.

Running around Fultoning anything and everything.

        • +4

Making enemies' vehicles slip on your horse's s**t is fun too.

    • +4

      sure does.

      • Thanks. 👌👌

  • If i already own The Phantom Pain, is the dlc in the $10.73 bundle actually good or should i just get ground zeroes for $2.89?

    • Ground Zeroes isn't really a full game, it is, but it serves as more of a 'taster' to the Phantom Pain. It's only 4GB anyway.

MGSV: GZ gives core fans the opportunity to get a taste of the world-class production’s unparalleled visual presentation and gameplay before the release of the main game. It also provides an opportunity for gamers who have never played a Kojima Productions game, and veterans alike, to gain familiarity with the radical new game design and unparalleled style of presentation.

If memory serves correctly, there are only 6 missions or so.

The dlc is like a couple of clothes not really worth extra money

  • +3

    Snake? SNAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAKKKKKKKKKKKKKEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

    • lol, why I can hear it.

  • Awesome game

  • +1

Too bad Konami (profanity) Kojima over this. Could have been even greater

    • Honestly feels like it's missing a chapter or two, but it does fit in the storyline just fine if you use your imagination… 😔

  • +1

One of these days I'm going to need to fire up the PS3 and finish MGS4.

Should also install this game and play it… it's been in my Steam library for god knows how long. That pile of shame is really shameful at this point.

    • +1

Shame MGS4 isn't on PC. You probably can play it with an emulator, but it would be nice to see a PC port… too late now anyway, probably.

      • It's one of those rare cases where an emulator community focuses really early on getting a certain game to work REALLY well: And for RPCS3, MGS4 is both fully playable and extremely enjoyable on emulator. (even in 4K!)

Bring a Dualshock 3 or you'll have a really tough time placing grenades properly!

  • I'm under the impression that the MGS is story heavy. Can you go into this one blind, without playing any of the others?

    • +1

Yeah the game is so insane it doesn’t even mention the early ones much and I’ve played metal gears 1-5 for about 10000 hours

    • +1

It's an enjoyable experience as a stealth action game with some very enjoyable set-pieces, highly repayable missions, many collectibles and online PvE/P modes.

Of course the franchise's storytelling can be described as esoteric for new players, so expect to be lost aside from what the next main objective is.

Either way it's a fun ride and for this price it's worth a play!

    • I haven't played it yet (just finished 4), but it's set before 1, 2 & 4 so probably isn't as bad to jump straight into.

    • It’s the only MGS game I’ve played and I enjoyed it. Believe it’s pretty early in the timeline. Impression I get is that even people who follow the series often have a hard time making sense of it all, so I wasn’t too bothered really. Gameplay wise it’s solid, although quite a bit of the second half of the game is remixes of levels played in the first half which contributes to the unfinished feeling.

      • It makes perfect sense, it's just not that great story wise and is dumbed down and feels hollow when compared to the previous games. That's because of Konamis interference. The game was never finished properly and was released as is against Kojimas wishes (despite Konami claiming otherwise).
It was the final straw in a messy break up which was years in the making.

Since 2017, Konami have all but abandoned their gaming division. Pro Evolution Soccer is the only thing they haven't completely dragged through the mud for quick money. Metal Gear:Survive, Contra:Rogue Ops, etc. They´re all half baked cash-ins or "anniversary" re-releases of older games.

I wouldn't be surprised if they eventually announced a mobile only Castlevania themed rail shooter with micro-transactions where you play as Snake partnering up with Bomberman to save Alucard from Pyramid Head as that's exactly where their head is at nowadays.

  • Solid game, good deal.

    • Soild Snake game, good doggo

    Thanks OP.
If you are MGS fan or even a newbie to the series then watch the history of MGS in YouTube for the nostalgia or to get the overall plot.

One of the best games, thanks op

  • +1

    Incredible gameplay.

Not a great Metal Gear game and some stupid voice actor choices from the Hollywood fan and self indulgent Kojima but this is one of the most addictive games I've played.

100 hours on PC and approaching that again on PS5.

    • Yeah, I'm a big MG fan and I'd say it's one of the weakest MG games. That said, it's still a very good game in it's own right and I have almost 600 hours in it on Steam. It's just a shame he went with Keifer for the final game.

    !

    • Pause.
      Restart checkpoint.

  • Anyone else have the problem of this not launching on Steam?

  • I remember playing the (I think) the first game on PlayStation 2 so many years ago. I look forward to playing this.
