  Could always use a 1tb NVMe in an enclosure; more than twice the speed and around $30 cheaper all up. I use this one https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B08RVC6F9Y (also supports regular SATA m.2 drives) with a Kingston NV1 that tops out at 950MB/s read and write, which is the limit of the enclosure.

  I guess the downside is an enclosure would be twice the size, and you have to use a cable…but it's oh so neat!

    Yeah I grabbed an OWC Envoy m.2 enclosure which seems to be more limited by the drive itself (around 1500MB/s) to expand the storage on my mac mini and it's been absolutely stellar so far. Not as portable as a flash drive which can sit on your keyring by any means, so they both have their use-case, but I couldn't be more happy with the performance of external m.2 enclosure so far.

    I’ve just returned that very enclosure (Sabrent EC-SNVE). It’s got the right chipset for the new M1 macs to get the most speed from usb but it constantly disconnected. From what I could see, the thermal material inside was barely touching the drive (250GB 970 EVO). Gutted as it was a nicely built enclosure.

        It was touching on one side but when looking at the drive attached in the enclosure, it wasn’t level with the edge, probably as it’s held in with a rubber grommet as opposed to a screw.

  These flash drives take me back to my uni days but back then 512MB was the bees knees. But as others have commented, your much better off using an external SSD nowadays for better performance and reliability

      lol. yeah, I remember trying to find that happy medium between quantity and quality for storing what I wanted to listen to on 128MB. lol. I think 160kbps was my go-to to preserve the sound quality back then.

      And now we can get 1TB to fit on your thumbnail.

  I guess if portability is really important, this is worth it.
  Like everyone's pointed out, I'd happily get a 2.5 inch or m.2 SSD with an enclosure.

  These are good for storage on RPi. Much faster (obvs) than a microSD card, plus you don't have the hassle of wondering when the microSD will inevitably die from the constant read/writes.

  I got one as a free replacement from Sandisk when my 128GB ultrafit died. Super happy with it, and I was told it is basically a SSD in memory stick size
