holly crap thats a good deal for an 8tb ssd!! thats brillant !!

  • I wonder if the code has resale value… maybe 75?

    • I'd pay that

    • +3

People are paying a lot on eBay, but I'd be concerned about getting scammed selling on eBay these days, especially for digital codes.

    PS5 compatible? /s

    • Yeah with a SATA to USB 3.0 adapter for your PS4 games & only to store PS5 games.

  • ssd unit price is on the same magnitude of hdd!

  • Wow, the future is here. Epic

MTBF 1.5M hrs but only 3 Years Limited Warranty or 2,880 TBW Limited Warranty

so something not right or they just not confident on QVO

QLC drives all have 3 years warranty as their lifespan is not as high as TLC drives because of the way they work. You'll notice that TLC drives such MX 500 and EVO all have 5 year warranty. It's also why QLC drives are cheaper than TLC such as BXseries and QVO

      • So what would be roughly the expected lifespan of this compared to a traditional HDD?

        • Significantly higher.
Solid State Drives of all technologies are far more reliable than mechanical "fail at will" drives.

          • @Nom: Completely agree, however when an ssd fails, you can't recover the data, whereas on a hdd, you can recover the data

            • @hmac: Either way, you restore your backup and you're up and running again.

              • @Nom: for those who keep backups haha. You would be surprised at how many people dont

I'm not going to pull trigger, got a 2 TB version and was unimpressed. I should've watched youtube videos or reddit reviews about this particular series of SSD.

    EDIT: On another note, that steam card deal looks really tasty. ;-;

    • ? What exactly were you not impressed about?

I've got a few 4TB of these and a few 4TB EVOs and they're fine as long as you're not absolutely hammering them with very large writes. Especially at this size where they're competing against HDD use cases rather than NVME SSD.

yeah i dont see how this is a bad drive. If i was going to get one, it would be as Steam game storage. If the speed was an issue (i really doubt it would be) I could transfer the games i am currently playing to NVMe storage. I still get the added benefit of extra speed vs a hdd, no moving parts and no added noise to my PC. Only reason I havent gotten one is i dont want drive cages or sata/power cables in my build. I really wanna stick to m2 drives. There is nothing even remotely close to the value of this available in m2 though :(

  • Full 8T data makes it a precious thing..

Wish everyone wasn’t out of stock of the 4tb Evo’s :(

    All gone now

I guess I paid $950 for this 6 months ago… and I could replace my last mechanical drive and have my PC completely silent.

I however do think this is a pricing error because I always look at pricing of these and it has never been so low… But I think it's small enough to be honored.

  • SLC, MLC, TLC, and QLC. Out of these, TLC is the most popular, though, QLC is going to eventually replace them. In terms of I/O, there’s SATA and NVMe

    Imagine a 10tb SSD with 2000 tbw,
And the other 10tb with 150,000 tbw mlc.

The price difference would be crazy huge.
Intel's sd3700s almost 10 years old on eBay second hand runs 24/7 on full load no degredation, great for OS's or single raid switch.

Was that a pricing error. Would be interested to know if it gets shipped.. shows 899 now

      I ordered at 11am today & it's been shipped.

I almost bought this a few days ago but just left it in my cart, checked on my lunch break this morning saw it was $750 & the $50 off code was still valid. I had to check my eyesight 😂 I also had a $10 giftcard from Klarna rewards so $689 less the $150 steam credit, bargain! It shipped this arvo.

  • Is this drive good for a NAS?

    • +1

I ordered 2 of these and will find out soon

I have a feeling it will be perfect. I have replaced my mechanical hard drives as I was tired of the heat and noise…

  • +1

i was about to pull the trigger on this one but the qlc really throws me off as i really need that sustained write speed. one day we will have tlc at that price.

    • +1

one day TLC will go the way of SLC/MLC :(

    • +1

What's your use case ? These drives do have sustained write speed for 80GB - more than enough for most normal use unless you're dealing with gigantic files 👍
