  • Awesome

Although I think "[17h 30m] Machine Learning Mastering Course in Arabic" shouldn't really be under the english section

    • Unless you’re teaching the machine how to master Arabic

    • Thanks. Its fixed

  • Some neat material.
Wire shark is great, but for the majority of people spending their time in the application level of the OSI (network stack), MITM proxy is an entirely easier be more productive tool, it also supports python scripting

When I try to add the free courses the courses are greyed out and I can not add them

When I sign in from a different browser I getting a message " sorry you not eligible for these discounts"

    • +1

I tried 2 Agile ones and the 'Add to cart' was not responsive. Other courses were fine…'Enrol' button came up

    • +4

You might already have those course from last time.
Udemy seems to roll out new annoying feature couple of days back. If you have course already then button will be greyed out and no option to enroll.

      • Turns out I did have them! It looked strange like the page wasnt loading so I was confused. Thanks for clarifying and being really responsive😊

    • +3

Happened with a few courses. Signed up to them using a new account.

Then I went back and searched my normal account for the ones not showing up - turns out already had them from Wuman's past deals.

This is what happens when we course collect and forget.

      • Hahaha what an allegation! Haha yes guilty if hoarding courses - time to start some

  • +3

Most courses, no option to add to cart or enrol …, Others too have this issue ?

    • +1

      Yes.

    • +1

checkout required a business address with Country and a zip code…weird
Edit: Changed to Australia and it worked.

    • +1

open Udemy in a separate window, click on the My learning up top, search your courses for those that aren't showing up properly and you'll find you already have them.

At least that's what I found.

  • +1

I had a similar thing, but it looks like I owned most of the ones I was trying to add.

  • Is it possible to become a programmer or software eng with these udemy courses? Are they comprehensive enough?

    • No, but I do see some actually really good python courses on ai, and web development, but the problem is you'll not find things like socket programming (that's as general as it gets to serverside down the deep rabbit hole)try googling socket programming and your world will open(maybe another year in lockdown will help)

I tend to avoid c++ or java as they never talk about recursion, or the differences between iterative, only my the bare basics.. it's pump and dump baby.
Forloop, input output, int, string float double bla bla blah.

      Seems to be the same.

If you want algorithms, how a stack works, or how to build serious shit you must learn algorithms and that starts with recursive iterative concepts and reverse engineering, or how else will you learn Pythagoras therum.

      • I've done quite a bit of maths, including discrete and computational mathematics and know about recursions (although this is often inefficient isn't it?), booleans, Djikstras, computational complexity and such. For, while loops and stuff are easy. Obviously not enough but do you recommend anything to get the whole picture other than uni? I definitely don't want to just learn how to write code and get by as a basic programmer/web developer but don't want to spend another 3 years working towards a degree (if avoidable).

    • No. Definitely not enough.

    • You can try combining these with general/specialised courses from Coursera or edX

Both offer number of free options from top uni's - and the subscription isn't too much either in case something isn't available for free.

      • Thank you. How do you know when you've learnt enough to enter the job market?

Depends on what you're after. Eg. If you're looking to become a software engineer you're going to go through the following steps and emotions:
          - Tutorials / courses to pick up the basics
          - Projects – as part of these tutorials / courses
          - Your own projects (ideas you may have or simply using other ideas / existing apps and making them better / cloning them without the help of tutorials)
          - At this step you’ll feel extremely frustrated if you’ve been following tutorials. It just takes a lot of time, patience and consistent effort to get through. As soon as possible try and learn all you can from the courses and then try to do things on your own. Eg. Come up with a project and use the tutorial to learn how you can implement it to your own project, not just follow it blindly. This helps you understand it better. It will take you at least 50-60 hours to get a hang of it and up to 3 months to feel comfortable.
          - Try and engage in discussion with fellow students in discussion boards / comments sections / on Stack Overflow – ask questions if you feel lost or stuck. Stack overflow will become your best friend when you get stuck.
          - The day you feel like you can answer questions others are asking, quite well and consistently – that’s when you know you’re on the right path. If you can start answering questions on Stack Overflow, which can be complex, that’s another sign.
Software engineering / programming is a lot about pattern recognition, memory, logic and application of these to new problems to create new solutions.
Once you’re comfortable with answering questions, you should practice with algorithms and coding questions which can come up in interviews at top firms (eg. Google / FB / Amazon / Netflix).
You can practice these on LeetCode or also on AlgoExpert
          - If you spend the next 3-4 months full time learning & understanding, I think you should be ready.
          Here’s some resources / inspiration
          - Plenty of tutorials on YouTube about Javascript / ReactJS / NodeJS / Python etc…
          - Basics of ReactJS tutorial to get started Clever Programmer on YouTube
          - Subscribe to Clément Mihailescu on YouTube and check out how he learnt to code and got into Google in 6 months Video and the Projects he used to get into Google, built from scratch Video

Note: not associated with anything mentioned above, they're simply resources I've found helpful.

Hopefully this gives you a good start. Feel free to PM me if I can help with any direction at any time.

          Good luck!

          • @maplesuxx: This is amazing, thank you so much, I'd be happy to send you lunch or something haha. I've actually watched a lot of Clement's videos before I was even interested in SE as a career. I was always interested in the problem solving aspect of coding questions and thinking of pseudocode rather than actual code. I'm just curious, seeing as you say it takes 3-4 months full time or in Clements case, 6 months (although he did have a maths degree and being intelligent helps), how far are you from someone who does a 3 year degree? What exactly am I missing out on because the courses do seem very full on.
What languages do you recommend and do you recommend going down a specific path (specialising)/types of projects as I know there are heaps of niches in this field, or just anything and everything so I have a basic understanding of everything? Do you think SQL is important? I guess I knew of lots of tutorials on youtube with python and stuff (like free code camp) but wasn't sure what areas to focus on/where to start/what I'm headed towards rather than just start learning python blindly.

            • @[Deactivated]: I'll gladly take lunch! haha. Happy to provide my input.

I have a degree in IT but learnt jack all about software - that too in Java which I cannot stand. So self taught myself. Started with PHO for web, then Swift for iOS and moved onto Javascript/React. By no means do I call myself an engineer nor have I tried to learn everything required of one. But I consider myself a quick learner given enough time and patience. I know nothing compared to someone with a Computer Science (CS) degree. Only enough for my needs and I learn as I go. Although with my learning speed I know I can pick up a semester's worth of work at uni in about 1-2 weeks to about 80-85%. Based on that I've given a timeline of 3-4 months for software related learning.

I suggest you pick what you want to do. If its web/apps I prefer React/NodeJs/Express. Check out the MERN stack and PERN stack.

You can use it to build web/mobile/desktop - all types of apps and use the same language for the front end / back end, and largely the same code as well. You can tie this up with a AWS no code solutions such as lambda / RDS to have a fully working app quite quickly. Or build your apps using firebase as the backend and create all the logic at the front-end/within the app. Firebase is also a live database so helps with apps requiring live updates such as chat apps etc… For projects - any time of consumer web-apps / mobile-apps.

For data science / Machine Learning (ML) / Artificial Intelligence (AI) Python is the go-to language with a lot of libraries and frameworks available. Although there are also JavaScript libraries available. You can use Python/Django/Flask for web apps but you'll need to use something else for mobile apps. Either the native languages (Swift / Java / Kotlin) or something else such as react / flutter. There's also angular. For pure data science / ML / AI python would be the way to go for sure. I don't have any experience here so I can't say much else. Perhaps pick data you're interested in and go from there. Coursera has excellent ML/AI courses taught by Andrew Ng, been wanting to take it myself for a while but haven't had the time yet, nor the need.

SQL is important for data storage / retrieval / manipulation and especially if you're working on apps that people will use - and if you want to know the entire stack (being a full-stack developer) rather than specialising with either back-end or front-end technologies only. You can use either SQL or a NoSQL database such as MongoDB. Either/Or/Both can work. You can learn it as you go with your projects.

So - I suggest you plan what you'd like to do and stick to that for a while (eg. if you want to make an app / site or do ML etc…). You wont get anywhere if you try everything. Maybe 9 months later when you've learnt a bit of one, you can try the other. It'll become much easier for you to pick up a second language and to also understand the concepts.

Learning will always be full on, you just have to keep putting in time, that's all. And seek advice/help when needed. No one is born perfect in anything. One step at a time and soon you'll see how far you've come! :)

Thank you! So if I'm going for web/apps, then I don't need to learn Python? I know a lot of Software Eng people learn and use Python but aren't ML or data science people as well as seeing SE jobs that require python, java, C++ etc., what sort of jobs are these?

Learning will always be full on, you just have to keep putting in time, that's all.

Yeah this is why I'm looking at getting in. I found a job where you don't need to learn or grow is boring.

There could be a variety of jobs that require Python - they don't have to be ML/AI. Some systems may be built on python, some jobs may require scripting for automation for which python is used. Or some of the other languages may be used to build these systems out. Not all jobs are front end / web or app based. Some companies have quite complex systems.

As mentioned in my last comment - python can be used for Web/apps but you'll need somehting on the front end for apps. You can do 100% web with python - still you may need a bit of javascript. I think you'll be pretty set with React/Node for web/apps these days. A lot of companies require such developers.

Tbh, you'll be fine with either language. Perhaps check seek for some SE/dev ads and see what the companies are like, what they require and use that to pick which path you would like to go with.

Could always check the main stacks for some of the big ones and see what they use. Eg. FB created react and use it, along with php and several other languages. Instagram started with python/django as the back-end and the front-end was made with Objective-C at the time for their iOS app. Uber also uses NodeJS/Python both along with Go/Java. AirBNB also uses react, ebay uses react. All these companies use multiple languages - so you'll be fine with either/or to find yourself a solid job.
