The case looks to be worth about $150 online

Sounds like a great deal - can this site be trusted?

    • +3

what, the official absolut site? nah, i don't think it can be trusted at all!

      …… :/

  • Does anyone know if the carry on itself is any good? Looks like a great deal if it is.

    • +2

I believe that American Tourister is made by Samsonite, so it would be reasonably good. I have lots of Samsonite but not American Tourister though, so I don't know first hand

      • +1

Yep, American Tourister is owned by Samsonite. But that doesn't mean Samsonite manufactures them. With that said, I have an American Tourister cabin luggage and boy, can that luggage take a lot of punishment.

      • +3

        Samsonite? I was way off…

        • LOL

    • +1

      3 year warranty

Gives me a reason to go use the $15 voucher I still have from liquorland after the coopers sparkling debacle.

Vintage Cellars & Dan's also have a number of the flavoured vodka's for $34.95.

    • the coopers sparking debacle?

  • I've seen this brand a whole stack of times and still can't figure out if it's good stuff or the American equivalent of those $2 shop suitcases.

    • It's reasonably good, the brand has ties to Samsonite, but obviously it is lower grade to Samsonite, I'd maybe give it a 6/10 compared to Samsonite / Antler 8/10.

    • American Tourister is a Samsonite brand.

      • Okay cool, thanks Dammit and Braddsey. All my stuff is Samsonite. It seems so expensive until you look at it 9 years later and it's still rocking on.

Which is not an ingredient in an Absolut Vanilla Mule = TOMATO JUICE.

    (from the claim site)

Ok now…someone give me the barcode# for 2 x Absolut 700ml products (at least 1 being a flavoured one) - so I can claim >)

I believe it is legit - there is a link to this Promoplace.com.au site from the official Absolut website, downside is that it may take up to FOUR MONTHS for delivery…dang!

    • +1

You need the receipt/proof of purchase too. Not just the bar codes.

Anything has an "American" name on it , should be avoided. It is always a target for terrorists!(Especially if you are not American!)

    • +5

I used to travel in my 'I am not an American' (with Arabic translation) T-shirt, until I was abused by disgruntled Aribic people who found my T-shirt more offensive than Americans. Was tired of the assumption (& sometimes abuse) that I am an American when I am in small villages. Japanese/Asians are probably more likely than people from USA to be using this style of luggage.

      • +23

        Japanese are Asians.

        • Geography on OB! Just meant I have seen a lot of Japanese with this style of cases, and other Asian travellers, especially Southern, to a lesser extent. Asia is vast. But don't tell Japanese they are Asians - I spend time there every year, and they often say they are not really like other Asians. Its like calling people from the UK Europeans, some object to that. And not all Americans are from USA.
Just carrying this style of case, with America in the brand, does not point you out to be from the USA. Can't see anywhere in the photos it prominently shows the word America.

        • stop there please bruce…

Notice bag is 0.5cm larger (36.5cm rather than 36 max) than allowed as carry on for Qantas/Jetstar.

    • and Air Asia

      • +3

And Ryan Air, and lots more that I use.
With the usual chaos at checkin on AirAsia flights, I doubt they will notice.

Its unlikely anyone would measure (not sure whether it would fit in those metal measures at check in), but I have seen people stopped & forced to pay extra for slightly oversized luggage on Jetstar international flights.

I've worn 3 layers of clothes, with pockets full of guide books etc, just to be able to use carry on to avoid charges & get a speedy exit from airports.

    • +1

The Vintage Cellars around the corner also have these for $34.95, so I'll take the risk & get this deal. Getting a bit old for backpacks, so will travel light with one of these.

      • +1

Ah, a Business Class OzBargainer. Tell that to the people I have seen getting excess baggage charges! Some discount airlines charge a fortune. They may nor give a Mod: Foul Language, but that does not stop them charging like they do.

        • -1

Never happened to me or anyone that I know of, excess weight maybe but size of carry-on luggage , Never

      • I've had the dreaded tape measure a few times - depends on the airline, or staff who may be from another airline. Excess weight is easy to change, but not the size of a rigid case. Backpacks usually get away with the limits, as can be squashed to fit. So have escaped excess charges as the item is then excess baggage placed in the hold, charged at a horrible rate. I bought my luggage to meet most airlines carryon limits. I travel up to 9 months a year overseas on discount flights. The 36cm is the maximum size for most airlines, and is sometimes less.

      • Would have to agree. - carried 20kg carry on (backpack) + 25kg check-in luggage (23kg limit) + personal item bag 5kg (shopping bag) all on international economy from USA to AU without extra fees. It's really how conspicuous you make it look when you're walking with it.

        • jetstar consider this size baggage as carry on baggage, but not virginaustralia. damn.

  • So any sales on absolute ATM?

  • +1

I fly regularly for work and you should see the things people get away with carrying on to the plane. I am sure you would never get stopped for something a mere 5mm larger than required.

    • Its the cheapest fares on small operators that usually attract the strictest measures. Business travellers are unlikey to ever be affected, so the 5mm is not an issue. Its just something to be aware of for some travellers. Some travellers get away with so much.

  • +4

Suitcase is 3kg in weight. For those airlines that have a max of 5kg carry on, there isn't much left for your own belongings. Good deal though, but don't know if it'll be very useful. I already have couple good bags.

  • Seems like a good deal, American Tourister make good quality luggage too. Wonder if you can purchase your Absolut from duty-free outlets, they're about $30 ea for 1lt there.

    • Their Facebook page says you can't use duty free. Also, when filling out your details you have to pick from a list where you bought it and duty free outlets aren't on it.

      • Well there's a "other" option… I guess as long as the store has those promotional flyers hung up it'll count?

  • +2

Is the Absolut Mandarin Vodka concidered as flavoured?

    • +1

      Mandarin is the keyword here…

      • +2

haha i think his taking a stab at the flavour..

        • anyone notice the concidered pun….

  • -5

Which of those three colours is less gay??

    • +8

None of them once all your 'DNA' magazines are packed ;)

    • I was going to buy the green and misses wanted red which were they best of the 3… We didn't really like the blue.

      • bugger the missus, get the colour you want.

        • +1

I wanted green and she wanted the red one we were buying one each. :)

  • need suitcase for 13/05/12… anybody dealt with the promo people before? 120days bit risky?

  • American tourister is good. I have one of these in the large size that I bought in KL. I reckon it'll last forever.

Does anyone know if there is a limit of 1 per person?

    • 1 per household address

    • Neva mind. 1 per address. Lucky for me, ex hubby lets me have stuff sent to his biz…..

  • It says 'within' 120 days so could be much sooner. If you really need one just get the claim in ASAP.

  • +1

Noticed from photos this case is closed with zips & secured with TSA combination lock. A strong case but not exactly secure with that long zip.

    • +1

For carry-on it should be alright, I don't let mine go out of sight.

If you're checking it in, that's a different story.

      • I travel for many months at a time with just a carry on, just thought this would be more secure than my current 1kg carryon friendly backpack. Hoped to secure with a lock around handle on those long train journeys in obscure locations. Only takes seconds to rob from this type of case without even noticing. Learnt what a knife can do for travel belongings before. Good for short trips in safer locales though.

  • +2

How many American Tourister suitcases are available? What happens if we run out of American Tourister suitcases?
Put simply, we have access to an unlimited number of American Tourister suitcases, meaning that if you follow the mechanics of the promotion within the timeline of the promotion, you will receive your suitcase.

Wow, pretty impressive. Now why can't other similar redemption promotions have unlimited amounts too.

    • +1

T&C (no 9) states if they run out, they can substitute with item of same value.

  • +3

So with online prices it is approx. $60 saving and you get 2 bottles of Absolut.

  • +1

Like others have said this saves you about $50ish after spending about $75 buying 2 x 700ml of vodka.

I was actually looking at this luggage a few weeks ago but went ahead and purchase the prismo american tourister.

    http://www.bagworld.com.au/shop/detail/american-tourister-cu…

    http://www.bagworld.com.au/shop/detail/american-tourister-pr…

The quality of the luggage feels nice but its Samsonite lower budget brand which only comes with 3year warranty.

If anyone wants to see these before they decide on this offer or the colour David Jones has these in store so does victoria station.

    • +1

only saving $50 suggests you have no use for or value in $70 worth of vodka.
Even if you don't drink them they don't make bad gifts.

If you would buy that much vodka over the course of a few months anyway (like many) the saving is more like $120

  • +11

  • Thanks for posting op!

  • I am having troubles claiming my carry-on.When I enter 5 digits from the barcodes (one is flavored, another one - normal Absolut vodka) I get an error message "Invalid barcode, please check your codes and try again"
Is anyone else having this problem?
    Thanks

    • did you get it fixed?

  • Best place to buy Absolut ATM?

    • +1

Just bought mine from woolworths liquor. $35 each.

  • EDIT: sorry, double post

  • Just so folks know - I emailed the as I couldn't find anything on whether they'd ship to PO boxes.

    They said no.

  • I'd assume they're fine if both are flavoured ones?

    • Yea I got 2 raspberries and it worked fine.

      • awesome, thanks. I was going to get raspberry and peach. Not a fan of their std vodka but the flavours my wife loves.

  • -7

Anyone know what the return policy is for the major liquor sellers? I want the case but not the alcohol.

    • +6

So give it away. You can't return drinks. Also, imo that's being stupid. Things like this are what make companies hesitant to do good offers

    • LOL Good try. I & others have done that with electronics (coupons, redemption).
Even that can cause promoters to think twice about future offers.
But no one is going to trust anyone with alcohol returns. Although, there are often offers to take back unused alcohol for party purchases…

  • hopefully I get a green one…

  • Put my form in, off to post office saturday to put the form in.

  • idid the claim but nowhere ask me print and send ?

    • You should print the claim they send to your email, and attach a copy of the receipt to it

      • +1

        thanks

      • They confirm they need the original receipt.

        • On the claim form it says:

"Attach original or copy of itemised till receipt here"

        • +1

I ask the promotion support whether a copy or original is required in writing. I've got the following reply:

          "Thanks for your email.
Please send in your original receipt and retain a copy.
          Thanks"
