My son said he needs this to be able to do his homework. He plays Minecraft sometimes too, will this be sufficient?

    • +18

you may need 2 for NVLINK or he may experience a decrease in his studying load

    • Nah you need at least 3 of these to run Minecraft RTX on.

    • Please don't be daft, this is only for Minesweeper, Minecraft requires 3 in xfire.

    this or overseas holiday ??

    • +5

      Overseas holiday? What's that??

      • +4

its a memory and a dream

        • +18

Doesn't make any difference, neither this card or a holiday will be available until 2022

        • Buying a decent card is definitely both.

      This + MSFS 2020

  • Is colorful a good brand?

    • the biggest brand/seller in China, good quality

      • +3

Huawei is the biggest brand/seller for mobile phone too.

        • No, apple and Samsung sell more phones.

        • Is this wahway of video card?

        • +1

          Yep they make great phones.

100% and then they become a preceived threats.

  • +2

The original price (or lowest price since launched) for this card was around $3000, see if you are okay to accept $500 premium.

reasonable value for a high end 3090

    No 3090 is reasonable value.

    • +3

Certainly not for gaming, but for productivity, if you need 24GB of VRAM it replaced even more expensive cards.

  • +5

my ps5 loads instantly. it dabs on this

  • -1

    Good for bitcoin mining?

    • Not really, it's not bad. But it runs very hot on the vram, where the cold plate of the cooler doesn't cover, so u cannot take advantage of the cooler.
As long as u stay away from Gigabyte 3090. Any of the 3090 perform similarly in mining, it should do about $150 USD after electricity per month, but there is only a few months left for etherium mining.

I have seen EVGA ftw ultra sold for $3000 while 3070 is still at $1400 and $1500 range. Not really worth it if u just plan to mine crypto imo

    • No

  • Soo cheap.

  • +4

Wow, a high end video card that sells for the price of a second hand car, bargain….

  • +1

Nope, these prices are more retarded than ever.

I desperately need a new GPU….my 1070 is struggling and artifcating, but $2000+ for a new graphics card that will be half the price in a years time, no thanks.

    • +3

half the price in a years time? lol

      • -2

When the new models are released and shortages decrease these hyper-inflated prices will drop massively?

        • +5

thats what they said last year when rtx 30s came out, i panic sold 2080 super for $650. lost big time

    • Just FYI, if u bought a 3090 in Feb, u would already made $2000 back, after electricity and before capital gain tax

      • -4

Last FY, a $3000 gpu already only costed around $2000 immediately after you bought it with instant tax write off

        • +3

That would only work if you were a business. Otherwise, anything over $300 has to be depreciated over the lifetime of the asset, and you'd have a hard time justifying this lasting only 2 years I'd reckon.

          • @BoundedRationality: that's why i specified last FY, special consideration due to COVID and it's easy for anyone to apply for an abn

            • @ln28909: "having an ABN" doesn't magically allow you to spend personal income on yourself and then claim a deduction on your taxes….

  • +3

My language was very Colorful when I saw the price 😵

    • Colourful price

  • In comparison to MSRP this is actually a steal compared to the 3080 which was about $1100, this is about $700 more than MSRP, not that it helps….but i feel i need to justify it soon because i just can't HODL!

  • I have the 3080 model of this and i do mine on the side when not gaming. the memory junction temp are 66. Compared to gainward 3080 around mid 80.

I also have an Asus tuf 3090 and that is doing around temps of 90 which is not great considering i have heatsinks and fans blowing on it.

Not sure what the numbers for the neptune 3090 will be but i would imagine it being below 85 which is great for a 3090 long term.

To the people moaning about the prices…. a 3090 has a payback period of less than 1 year if u get it in the low 3xxx and they are all FHR.

Once you start realising your gaming device can pay itself off in less than a year, you would be mad not to own one and make it work.

    • Ok so it pays for itself in less than a year, but then you have to pay tax on that income earned?

      • you must pay tax accountant + capital gain on all the coins you earn. (there are some service that does calculate tax for you not necessary cheap)
There is no "easy" way to escape it as all crypto exchanges requires you to register your details. (name, drivers license/passport etc)

        • if u know someone who lives overseas with no capital gains tax. mine it to their wallet.

    • 3080 only has vram on one side, the same side as the die. 3090 has its vram on both side of the pcb, which is not cooled by the cold plate.

Like I post before, if u bought 3090 before Feb, even with capital gain tax, the card would have paid it self by the end of the year. If u paid RRP on 3070 or 3060ti back then, it would paid itself in 6 month after tax and electricity.

    • Wow that's low are you in an air conditioned environment?

I can't get Tjunc of 66 on any of my cards

My Neptune 3080 is pretty normal around 90 without fans blowing on the back plate otherwise around 86

      • no, its a bit cold now in W.A. i measured that in night time. just checked now today its 71 day time.

i have a lian li 2 mesh case and theres fans blowing upwards onto the blue ring side but nothing against the backplate. I have the rad on outside and top of my case, not mounted. That could be why as its always getting fresh air.

        • I had mine in open air too and it was only getting 86-ish not sure if we're running the same clocks though

It's a shame not to vertical mount this card in my opinion!

  • $3500 is a bargain? O_o
The appeal of consoles is getting stronger…

  • Here’s a picture of my Neptune 3080 installed that I rescued from slavery the other day after receiving a case I was waiting to be released for a long time

Was considering upgrading to a 3090 but can’t justify it at the moment
