      A lot of trans fats

      • +61

        Some people like Trans.

      • they were supposed to reduce the trans fats years ago

      • Those are my favourite fats.

      • +5

        Zero is a lot?

Since 2010 KFC Australia has worked across its core menu offerings to reduce sodium, and in 2012 changed its cooking oil from sustainably sourced palm oil to locally sourced high-oleic canola oil and also introduced side salads options as well as permanent grilled/baked menu choices. KFC Australia continues to look for ways in which it can make further improvements.
KFC Australia products are free from artificial trans fat and is working to remove all artificial colors and flavors by the end of 2018

    • Bought some today. Every piece was a fatty thigh. Tenders and normal pieces taste way better.
      Will not buy again.

  • Does that mean it's mostly breasts?

      ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

    • +6

No, mix of thighs and breasts. The thighs are better anyway, they're juicier.

      It means meat glue.

      • Yuck, really?

        • -5

You think all this fast food chicken is breasts and thighs? It's pressure washed off carcasses and stuck back together with meat glue like chip board.

          • @timtam-slam: Its ok to be jealous that KFC make millions selling chicken chipboard

          • +1

@timtam-slam: Absolutely incorrect, maybe in frozen nuggets you get at the supermarket, but no major Australian fast food retailer uses reconstituted chicken for their products (maybe a couple use for nuggets but not KFC/McD).

Is "hot" describing the temperature or the spiciness?

    • +4

Going by the coating in the images it looks the same as Hot & Spicy or wicked wings, so I think it would be the spiciness.

    • +6

When has KFC ever been at a decent temperature.

    • +4

      It's describing the breasts

    • +3

The hot may also refer to the attractiveness of the "chicks" used.

    • +14

If you're white, it's describing the spiciness. For anyone else it's describing the temperature.

  • +1

    Zinger fillets?

    • -1

      no they are tiny

      • They are not. I ordered today and was full by the time I could finish #5.

  • Hoping it is not nuggets dipping with sause

  • 1215 Kcal… That's alot of calories for 10 pieces / one meal.

    • +6

a bit over half your daily intake, that's fine!

      • +1

Well just wanted to put it out there that's it's 1200+ Kcal. My doc (specialist) is making me do a 1200 Kcal per day diet since last 3 months and 6 more months to go roughly so can't eat this. I am what's classified as obese based on my BMI. So far lost 20KGs in the last 3 months purely due to 1200 KCal intake.

Been on the lookout for good takeout and lower calorie count, for e.g. Nando's half chicken (without skin) is a good option.

        • +1

well, if you had this for breakfast lunch and dinner, then you'd hit your mark. no veggies or anything, thatd be too much lol

would 10 pieces really be a single meal though? that seems like a problem with portion control, as well as calorie intake. being packed with calories can be very satiating, but you need to be able to stop yourself from eating, even if you dont feel full yet. low calorie density foods let you pack your stomach with more, but a small amount of junk food feels just as filling, as long as you wait 15mins

I did a similar diet a few years ago and found getting used to smaller portions was the most helpful thing. smaller stomach means I more naturally avoid overeating these days (though it still happens). eg if I really have junk food cravings I might still get kfc, but I'm pretty okay getting a snack box as a full meal, instead of 5 pieces plus chips and gravy and whatever else i used to get. and it barely affects my weight

a friend also limited calories, lost heaps of weight, but went for big portions of very low density food, so that as soon as he stopped dieting he was stuffing himself on regular foods and became fat again pretty soon

          • @crentist:

would 10 pieces really be a single meal though?

For some people yes it would be, plus chips and a drink

          • +1

@crentist: The person has already lost 20kg. Let it be and let them do what works. To be able to lose 20kg takes a complete mind change. Encouraging someone to do what works for you won't always work for everyone. We all know just having this one meal is no where close to being balanced even with a multi vitamin. Take it from me, someone who ate kfc for 2 weeks straight at maintenance calories as an experiment, with a salad and multi daily and never felt so gross. Delicious though.

            • +2

@aerona: True, that did seem a bit much after I wrote it. But I wasn't trying to encourage a balanced diet, only the mind change. Losing 20kg should do that, but looking at this as a single meal, not something to spread out, just reminded me of my friend who kept big person thoughts and rebounded. Makes sense if they expected popcorn chicken though

How did the kfc diet work for you? Sounds yum.
One of my best weight fluctuations in the last few weeks came from eating 6 pieces of kfc in a day, and nothing else. Tempted to do it again with this deal

        • Hey, so just had this today to fit in my macro targets for a weight loss journey, where I'm sitting at 1600 calories per day. Here's what I did that could help you.

Each piece is 50-60g sitting at 120 calories, having 10 in one meal sitting is very unrealistic! I ended up having four with air fried chips and a garden salad that I made, and chucked the remaining in the fridge so I can air fry them tomorrow. Truth be told, this is one of their "healthier" items that you can find on their menu as it has a higher protein ratio to carbs and fats (C/F/P: 6g/7g/10g). I do not recommend eating KFC, but if you're like me and would love to enjoy some of these promotions once in a while, go for it!

Good luck on your weight loss journey - but as @crentist said, it's all about portion control!

    • +32

It's almost like 10 pieces of deep fried chicken isn't exactly a suitable meal for the calorie conscious..

      • +10

        It's not actually too bad.

The additional chips, softdrink and any extra bread products are the real problem.

      • Finding it hilarious it's even being discussed!

    • 10 pieces of fried chicken is not a single meal.

      • From what I understand these are tiny pieces and would likely be a single meal (probably need some chips and drinks with it too). A little bigger than their pops (round chicken pieces) but smaller than their normal side chicken pieces.

        • -1

          You’re completely wrong

    • -1

      1215 Kcal

There isn't 1,215,000 calories in 10 pieces of chicken.

  • +4

    bones have more flavor

    • +1

for sure, especially if you're and animal and gnaw away at the cartilage :) but at this price with a bit of spice not a bad option!

      • +2

        cartilage is awesome

  • +112

The piece in the photo looks a bit small to me
It says 10 pcs = 5085kJ in app
    In comparison 1 zinger fillet = 772kj
    3 wings = 1656kj
And 1pc of bone in chicken = 900kj

I think it's fair to say 10 pcs hot boneless = 6.5 zinger fillets, 9 wings or 5.65 pcs of bone in chicken
A bit expensive than the previous 6 pcs bone in for $7 deal

    • +13

      This guy did the math

This is the kind of in depth fried chicken analysis I go to OzBargain for.

      • +15

To further his analysis, the hot spicy breading would contribute to the larger amount of the KJ vs original rercipe breading. My hypothesis is that we are getting less chicken per dollar based on his original calculation. Maybe moving to a protein per dollar ratio model would be more appropriate to calculate and assess value?

        • Was this modelling done at the Doherty Institute?

    • +1

Great, now I know the size of the serving.

      • Literally thought the same thing, cant go an eat it now :(

    • What about nuggets comparison ?

    • +3

      Came for this

      Non literally

    • you deserve a vote

    • +1

Nice Maths. When it comes to energy, the coating is the big culprit when it comes to calories. So with the extra coating to chicken ratio. This is going to have way more calories and less chicken.

    • Gustavo Fring mathematics

    • i would say there is more in a boneless piece than in a wing….i had some yesterday.

  • +4

Tassie is getting a Habanero Hot n Crispy version instead. $8.45 for 6 pieces.

    • +3

Cos it's freezing there, they need real heat

    • +1

The chickens used are all related in Tassie, suits their tastes.

  • Is this offer available each day?

  • -7

Dunno why people bother. It's gonna be the same bland tasting crap we've come to expect from KFC. Looks good on paper, then feel instant regret after eating it.

The Maccas Mcspicy burger is way hotter than this and you'll probably be satisfied after 1 patty compared to 10 pieces of this not-hot 'n crispy chicken.

    • -5

Yeah KFC Hot & Spicy is trash sadly.

      • Imagine Hot N Crispy. No Spice, same chilli, more flour and oil. ewww

    • then feel instant regret after eating it

I thought i was the only one to suffer this

      • +1

Eat a salad after mate. Like one with a lot of dense greens and leaves.

Then eat foods like avacados or kiwi fruit or flax seeds, wholegrain cereals to make you poo easier.

        • +2

ya dont need anything to make ya crap easier than KFC itself.

    • +9

blah blah blah if you don't like it then don't buy it. maccas makes the most dreadful burgers I've teasted in my life, zinger burger with supercharge or chill relish sauce will blow the mcspicy away

      • +1

zinger burger with supercharge or chill relish sauce will blow the mcspicy away

        It's all shit.

        • +1

I don't know what wild shit did you smoke before you making this comment, but all maccas burgers are shit. All you can taste from the mcspicy is the deep fryer oil and burning hot chilli, nothing good about the dry and hard chicken. The buns are so small half the chicken paddy is hanging out. Trust me KFC chicken burgers are way way better, and beef burgers are better at Hungry Jacks, end of story.

          • @Juniormin:

Trust me KFC chicken burgers are way way better, and beef burgers are better at Hungry Jacks, end of story.

Remind me again why Maccas is more popular then? I don't eat Maccas apart from the odd chicken burger or sundae

            • @Orico: More variety (chicken, beef, fish), longer opening hours, kids playing area, mc cafe and sweets + deserts. That doesn't make them making better fried chicken or burgers, plus people like you obsessed with their shit food still enjoy going there, convincing enough?

              • @Juniormin:

                convincing enough?

Sounds as if you work at KFC.
I think the McSpicy burger is better than a zinger burger. It's even better with the chilli sauce from Singapore instead of the McChicken sauce. Less grease, flour and fat in the patty too.

I don't dine at fast food joints unless I'm desperate after hours. I'm spoilt for choice for gourmet burgers in Western Sydney and in Surry Hills/North Shore. I eat fresh burgers from there.

            • @Orico: Maccas is more popular because it has been around longer, has more locations, they spend more on advertising and the general population that frequent them aren't the people who are the ones with the best tastes in food.

            • @Orico:

Remind me again why Maccas is more popular then?

Media saturation, sponsorship everywhere even down to local league sport and one on every corner goes a long way.

      • All sleeping on the Hungry Jacks fried chicken burger. Its expensive but worth it.

    • +1

Except you don't get satisfied by any maccas products because they're all sugar-pumped, hyper-processed pieces of mush shaped like burgers that barely classify as "food". They offer no nutritional value and don't sate your hunger whatsoever.

At least KFC is just chicken, which (outside of the nuggets) is reliable protein.
