  • If this is the Defy+, which I believe this is then it isn't a MB525 it's an MB526.

    • No they have both the 525 and 526 on there website the 526 is $289.

  • +2

526 is for Telstra Next-G and the 525 is for Optus. I'm quite happy with my 525 as I can take it running without worrying about it getting wet and I don't need to bother with a case. If you have to have the latest OS you'll be disappointed though.

    • I was thinking about getting a 525, but ended up with the xepria active and loving it. apparently it is getting ics, the negative is the low resolution

      • I'm getting the SE active as well if anything happens to my current mobile.. Sick of having to pay a fortune for a new phone just coz of water spill or half metre drop.. Phones shouldnt be so delicate.. Watched the crash test n water test videos on youtube and in love with the active ever since…

        • Completely agree, and the fitness apps and having Ant+ make it great for exercise ie running and cycling

    • +3

Wrong. 526 is known as the defy+, which has a faster (1ghz vs 800mhz) processor and runs Gingerbread 2.3.4 as opposed to Froyo 2.2.2 OS. Both are available in either the Telstra branded NextG compatible, or standard 3G variety. I recently bought a 3G MB525 and have since overclocked the processor to 1.2GHz, and am currently looking at installing CyanogenMod software to upgrade to ICS 4.0. Basically, if you're open to a bit of tinkering, there is no reason to go for the more expensive MB526. Link to ICS development: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1432100

      • I hope u are clear with the term "processor" here…, as the 526 & 525 use the same Cortex A8 with different speeds, only difference is the chipset TI OMAP 3620 vs TI OMAP 3610, both using the same GPU PowerVR SGX530.

The only problem here is make sure you check or ask for the RED Lens version, as the 525 had 2 types of lenses, the Green and the Red, the Green lens is supposedly much harder to tweak to obtain 720p recording capabilities…

I've had my Defy from the very beginning…, the best mobile phone I have ever had !

Its running MIUI 2.3.2 STABLE (GB), I had MS2Ginger for about a year, served me well ! :)

  • Not a bad price for a half decent budget phone.
Still makes me laugh how this is nearly twice the price of the Acer Liquid Metal back in the day with almost identical specs apart from the Defy having more internal mem. Hasn't been a deal that comes close to that on a budget phone since.

It should be stated that this phone is heavily water resistant and dust proof. Some people even take it with them while swimming to make underwater videos (not advised!). For me, this was worth the higher price.

I agree with frankyman. You can't compare the Liquid Metal and the Defy. The Defy, for one is a Motorola and will most likely last twice as long as a Liquid Metal. Not to mention the exceptional build quality and being able to get this phone wet. For me this is also worth the extra $$$

      • Unless you need to use the Earpiece - http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1612411

        • That was an isolated stock issue in 2010, move on…, its been solved by Moto.

      • Ah I see I didn't realise it was weather proof.

      • mmmm not sure about the exceptional quality of this phone. My mate dropped his, falling one metre onto carpet and the gorilla glass broke.
its speaker also wigged out and the power switch also stopped working.
phone has had 3 trips to the fix it man (not necessarily in that order).

interesting that it is so lifeproof in motorola's advertising but when it comes to fixing it under warranty motorola seem to think it has no durability. you would think they would back up their own claims and fix 'occasional drop' damage.
truth in advertising? not a chance.

TOTAL BS…, "falling one metre onto carpet and the gorilla glass broke" ! lol

I have been to the Himalayas with this baby, its fallen over a 100 times, worked in temperatures you've never lived in or seen, been more than 5ft below SALT water, I have never changed the battery, only the screen protector, and I've got 27 people who can prove this…

Most comments here are ONE dimensional…, people have no clue how to use this beast…, Sad Really !

  • I won one of these once, and let hubby have it. It broke in about a week, fault was a common fault on the phones according to searching on google. Couldn't get any sort of warranty on it as it was a prize and I didn't have a receipt. How to Motorola warranty works if abysmal if you are used to Apple, there was only one place in QLD to take it to. Ended up in the bin.

The operating system (motoblur) that is put on the phone makes it extremely slow and hard/frustrating to use.

My recommendation - save your money and buy a better phone.

    • Yes it was apparently stripped of its 'lifeproof' title.

  • Find as many reviews as you can and read them. 526 is definitely the better option.

  • My wildfire s is annoying slow while browsing. I am thining about getting the next G version. Is it fast enough to not get on my nerves?

    • +1

is it the device or network, ie are you with Vodafone

      • I'm with Telstra, network wise I'm great, but the processor on the wildlife s is shit, even when overclocked to 800mhz.

        • ahh cool was wondering
