Yes eventually after waiting for reviews

      • Ah ok thanks for letting me know

  • Downloaded it, decent so far, not many changes

  • Did month ago. Not much difference

  • It's not about reviews, I'm not considering moving away from Windows, I just want to wait until the OS has become the main system OS, right now Windows 10 is still dominant because Windows 11 just released.

It took 2.5 years* before Windows 10 surpassed Windows 7, I probably won't wait that long so I'll be a "slightly" early adopter, but not a Day 1, Month 1 person. I might wait 6-12 months, ensure there's no massive issues early on, then upgrade.

*Windows 10 released on the "29th of July 2015", and by "January 2018" had the majority of Windows users.

It doesn't help that I need to upgrade my motherboard/cpu if I want to upgrade and not do a fresh install.

  • All my CPU's are too old, so nope.

    • I run an i7-7700k. In theory it's too old, but I did a fresh install and no problems at all. It's more stable than the Windows 10 I was running.

Has anyone noticed windows being free relenquishes them from law suit because it's not a paid product.

After playing gamepass the amount of issues with Microsoft flight sim would also be the same.

But cannot account for the physical editions that can be bought.

Maybe it's just one huge conspiracy theory, or time will tell.

So just went to shut down laptop, and it gave me a message that this laptop doesnt meet requirements for Windows 11..
I never asked it to check…

Is this going to be another MS Special where you dont get a choice and it will just update "for you" ?

  • Just deployed Win 11 on a newish Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 5 Pro Gen 6 as well as inside a virtual machine. Both installs went relatively smoothly as they were done from scratch rather than as an upgrade from Win 10.

Drivers for the Lenovo were already available on their website but just like Windows 10, it didn't pick up the wifi card so you'll either have to:

    • Use a USB-C to Ethernet adapter, or
    • Set up a local, offline account - see instructions here, then manually install the wifi drivers afterwards

As for the virtual machine, I decided to force an install without the TPM or SecureBoot checks by using a simple registry hack on the setup screen. VMware Fusion has support for encryption and vTPM if you're after a vanilla process, but there's a bit of a performance penalty to be paid.

Overall, I don't see any noticeable gains in performance as marketed by Microsoft but I am liking the new interface. There are a few minor quirks here and there but I'm sure they will be fixed in due course. I'm really looking forward to the imminent Android apps support that didn't quite make the launch release.

Go ahead and download the ISO directly from MS and use Rufus to build the USB installer.

  • Bookmarked,. will dive into Windows 11 though should I pay for it to do a fresh install or free upgrade from Windows 10? 👍😁

    • Windows 11 should recognise the Win 10 key that's stored in your BIOS so no need to pay for a new license. Either method is fine but I personally would do a fresh install

    • I did a fresh install after having run Windows 10, I thought it would activate automatically, it didn't. I activated it with my old Windows 10 key and it works fine now.

If you're running an EOM with the key in the bios, it probably would activate automatically if you install the right version.

  • I upgraded my 2 year old desktop PC from Win 10 to Win 11 yesterday, my hardware was compliant, the upgrade took about 45 minutes all went smoothly everything works including the printer & some much older software. The PC ran well with Win 10 but is now definitely faster. Hope all goes well for you Kelvin if you decide to go ahead.
