[WA] Ryobi ONE+ 18V 4Ah Line Trimmer and Blower Kit - $130 @ Bunnings Belmont

580

Snagged this at Bunnings Belmont earlier today. There were quite a few remaining and a whole range of other clearance items in the carpark.

Figured that buying the kit was cheaper than buying a battery alone.

$229 is dearer, however, the price includes one battery ? Not just skin ?

You'll need an extra battery if you want to use the blower for more the 7-8 minutes.

I have a 5Ah battery and it barely lasts 10 mins.

Maybe time for a new battery? I have two 4Ah batteries and a 2.5Ah battery. The 2.5Ah battery will easily last over 30 mins on the blower pictured here. I have never used the blower long enough to run out of juice on the 4Ah batteries but they do last over an hour when using the trimmer.

      • +1

Agreed - my 5ah goes for well over half an hour and the 1.5ah for at least 15min!

  • Have the blower and the long pipe attachment keeps disconnecting

    • I have the blower and have had no issues.

Pretty average bit of kit. My whipper snipper died after about a year and a half of things falling off it and the frustrations of the spool. Would recommend the brushless version over this.

The blower isn't too bad, but as per the comment above, the pipe keeps dropping off. Best part about the kit was the battery.

    • Does the brushless kit have a better or no spool?

    Ozito is good option

fwiw my Ozito line trimmer has taken an ungodly amount of abuse and still works great.

      • Which one

      • Same here. My one from a previous deal still works like a charm.

      • Just the balance that out, I had an ozito and the blade shat me to tears, and I gave it to a mate who needed one and he told me it died within a couple of months. Was hardly used. I bought the Aldi one with the line and I will never go back to plastic blades again, even though both are underpowered the line makes a big difference and is cheaper

To be clear I'm using the Ozito with the line - not the plastic blades. The ones with the blades seem pretty bad.

          • @itscyanide: Ah, so yours is the dual 18v one then? I'm hanging out for a good deal on one of those since i now have dual 3Ah batteries since I got lucky and picked up an extra for 20 bucks

            • @Jackson: Yep, it's this one. Personally never liked the bump feed though some folks seem to dig it. Otherwise it performs really well, and I quite like the variable speed trigger. Would definitely be a good buy when on sale.

              • +1

@itscyanide: I don't care if it's bump or not, but as long as I am not buying new ones like some have complained about iwth the ryobi

      Link?

  • Good price if just for the battery alone

  • Anyone know if this is in NSW?

I have this particular trimmer… I grabbed it on sale to hold me over when my petrol trimmer had issues. Unfortunately, a bad decision since the petrol trimmer wasn't worth paying to fix and was beyond my skill, so I've ended up using the Ryobi a lot longer than I intended.

A word of warning about the spool cartridge system that this trimmer uses….
    * Get used to manually refilling them, the refills are just plain wasteful and a rip-off.
    * The cap that holds the spool in place is actually also a consumable… it wears out fairly quickly, then catastrophically fails sending the spool flying - at which point the trimmer is useless until you source a replacement the cap. I had never seen this before in any trimmer I'd used before. I can only assume it's a blatant, deliberate choice on Ryobi's part as a way of squeezing some extra cash out of consumers.

That cap is amusing, in a sad kind of way.
If you have a 3D printer or know someone that does, then you can 3D print a replacement:

      or

Durability? Unknown, but likely far cheaper than buying the thing. There are a few more on Thingverse too. I just picked the first two I found.

Thanks… I've been looking for an excuse to get a 3d printer. :)

Ironically, I found some knock-off spools and caps on ebay that seem to overshoot the genuine article on the quality front. It goes to show how Ryobi have taken their cue from the printer manufactures and really given consumers the big F.U. with this range.

Only problem with ebay stuff like that (also found the spools and caps there cheap) is the current postage delays. Still waiting for something I've ordered 30th August :(

  • Any cheap drills going

    • There were AEG impact drills and reciprocating saws. Not cheap cheap.

Good find I drove past the Belmont store earlier today and saw there was a carpark sale on. I'll go back now to see what goodies I can find. Cheers bro

Let us know bro - rare to get Ryobi discounts!

      • True bro

      • So sorry bro I just saw your message. By the time I got to Belmont Bunnings it was very late in the afternoon and all the good deals were long gone

  • I paid 229 for this 3 weeks ago, the trimmer started smoking and stopped working, exchanged both , now the new blower has an annoying vibration .I forgot to put the battery in the box when I exchanged, makes up for the hassel.
I find the trimmer is better with a thicker nylon fitted , and removing the guard so you can see what's going on
