  • Its a good deal as I am buying this camera ..
As per Ken Rockwell unless you have nikon lenses don't go with Nikon….. nikkon is 2 years behind canon and Sony….. Nikon have reduced spending on R&D.. compared to Sony and Canon It's auto Eye Focus is not as good, D lenses don't have autofocus even with FTZ adapter

    • So its a blankets no then. How can you have Nikon lenses when the D version dont work and their new lenses only recently had a new mount. You're/Ken is basically saying dont buy Nikon for good.

      • Nikkor D lenses are from 1990

For Nikon Z series you need Z mount lenses or for older F mount need an FTZ adapter … this adapter allow F mount lenses… but autofocus does not work with old lenses.
KEN ROCKWELL is one of the best reviewer for DSLR cameras

    • So true, I wouldn’t consider z line but all my lens are F socket….

Don't trust Ken Rockwell for anything lol…

There's lots of far more knowledgeable people in the field who can provide you pros and cons of various cameras, rather than picking and choosing specific points that may/may not matter to people.

Pick and choose your price bracket / use case:

Nikon have brought out nice cameras, and depending on your use case, preference etc. etc., there may be things compelling about their products which may sway you towards their cameras.

For example, BRAW recording on an external monitor, the FTZ adapter, general ergonomics, weather sealing on all of their products etc. etc.

While not a full time paid photographer, I do earn money from my photography and been using Z6 since even before eye autofocus is usable. Is it the best today? As per youtube (mostly), no. For me? It's awesome!! Can it work for you? Absolutely! What if it doesn't work for you? Learn to use your gear better and hone your skills, the problem is you not the camera.. If you're good with a DSLR, this should be a cake-walk for you.

Ken Rockwell? Just use to get the measurements and weights of gear, not his opinion. His opinion contradicts with himself in so many occasions it's just hilarious ha ha.

For people contemplating about purchasing from Nikon, please be aware they have a limited range and expensive set of lenses.

Third party lenses such as Tamron and Sigma focus their development on Sony and Canon.

There's adapters you can attach to make the Nikon dslr lenses compatible, but functionality and performance such as autofocus varies.

    Just food for thought.

    • Viltrox have released a range of low cost autofocus fast primes for Nikon Z mount. They have decent reviews.
You can get 10% off direct from their store with the code NIKONRUMORS. Note US prices and free international shipping.

A lot of bias here. Sony has similar, if not more expensive lenses compared to Nikon.

      DYOR.

I've switched from F-mount to full Z . Cant be happier. Amazing lenses. 50mm 1.8 is great value. 14-30mm is a great travel/general landscape lens. 20mm f/1.8 amazing astro prime with nearly no coma and sharp edge to edge wide open. Cant wait to pick up my 70-200 this week which is supposedly the beast.

      • I'm guessing you make a living out of these gears, otherwise it is could be a bloody expensive hobby!!!

        • I found a hole and I just kept digging ! Haha

      • Not bias, it's fact.

Yes Sony has expensive lenses, but larger range.

Also massive range of affordable third party lenses that performance on par with the branded lenses.

I didn't say the Nikon lenses were bad, I'm pointing out limited range and third party options.

FYI, I used to own the D750 with the trinity set.

        The 70-200 is crazy sharp.

    • Lens price comparisons ;
      24-70mm f/2.8 70-200mm f/2.8 14-24mm f/2.8 (equivalent)
      Nikon $3,399.95 $3,499.95 $3,649.95
      Sony $2,499.95 $3,299.95 $4,999.95 (12-24mm f/2.8)
      Canon $3,899.95 $4,199.95 $3,899.95 (15-35mm f/2.8)

      Prices from Teds

Nikon has the best 14-24. And many other sharper lenses.

As Sony starts making fullframe mirrorless earlier, lots of used (cheaper) high quality Sony lenses on eBay now. But the LCD on cameras is so bad.

Canon… F2 zoom lenses but may not be necessary

      • +1

Don't forget there's a current cash back promotion on these Nikon lens which are some of the best lens according to reviews.

        E.g. https://photographylife.com/reviews/nikon-z-24-70mm-f2-8-s/4

The Nikon Z 24-70mm f/2.8 S is alone a good enough of a reason to get into the Nikon Z ecosystem.

Amazon have better prices than Ted, the 24-70mm F2.8 is around $2800 after $300 cash back (even less with CR or SB 4% cash back).
Some people were lucky enough to score one below $2000

      • +1

Not really a fair comparison. I paid $2000 for the Nikon 24-70 from Amazon (fluke deal) but it's regularly sub $2800, and I paid $2900 for the Nikon 70-200 from Amazon as well and it's regularly sub $3200 I think.

Sony prices look pretty good though.

  • Just met with some pro's: They jumped ship to Sony. Not that my old eyes could tell. Making videos, Panasonic is still an old time favourite.

Personally I would spend this money on flagship phones and a good processing setup.

  • The Nikon Z 24-70mm F4 is $763.77 from amazon after the $150 cashback

    • +1

No, there's no cash back for this. Also they often go below $800 on Amazon, if you can wait a week or 2.

      • Yeah I can't seem to find it listed on the Nikon cashback website, but on Amazon says $150 cashback, must be a mistake..

  • Picked up the Z6II with the 24-70 F4 kit lens for $3043 from Amazon a few weeks back. It is an awesome camera and I couldn't be happier. Like others have said, the lenses are expensive but you do get what you pay for. I've gone full Z and won't bother with the FTZ adaptor. I do believe Tamron and others are starting to make Z mount lenses which might be an option for some. We will have to wait and see.
