Free Outback Starter Kit (RRP $18.50) When You Buy a Ned Kelly Starter Kit ($24.90+Post)

280

Hello OzBargainers,

First time post here on OzBargain, so I hope it's a good one.

Hoselink Deal of the Week:
Receive a FREE Outback Starter Kit when you purchase one of our Ned Kelly Starter Kits

I've been a long time user of the site and thought that it was about time that I try to get our company on board to offer a sale worthy of being OzBargained.

Well, it took some convincing, but my boss Tim (Who you may have seen on television - (http://www.youtube.com/user/hosepro)) has agreed to launch a Deal of the Week campaign that will run for the next eight weeks.

To kick things off, we are offering an extra complete set of fittings ($18.50) when you purchase one of our Ned Kelly Starter Kits ($24.90 - our most popular product). A savings of over 40%. Multiples are fine. Postage typically ranges between $5-$8 anywhere in Australia. If you're near Sydney, you may also pick up directly from our warehouse in Brookvale.

Everyone has a story about a hose that burst off and were soaked in the process. Let’s put an end to hose-woes!

Hoselink's patented hose connections are superior to the standard click-on garden hose fittings in every way. They're durable, will never burst off your hose, and simply do not leak. In addition, they are covered by a three year warranty and a lifetime no-burst guarantee.

We regularly receive feedback from customers who bought our fittings ten years ago that are still going strong (admittedly, the color has begun to fade).

Plus, the multi-function spray gun included is really, really good!

Aside from the standard markdowns on RRP for buying direct from us, sales on our products, specifically on our hose connections are few and far between.

In addition to providing a product that works as advertised and backing it up with good old-fashioned service - Hoselink is a homegrown Australian family business.

If you have any questions, you may post them here and I will do my best to answer them in a timely manner.

Alternatively, feel free to call us at 1300 900 617 or email [email protected]

Thanks for reading!

  • I was nearly tempted until I read a couple of independent reviews and I know there are hardly any products that dont have their share of bad reviews.
Brass fittings like those from Neta are hard to beat for longevity and durability.
For those interested in your product it looks like a good deal.

    • +4

While I agree that brass fittings are hard to beat for durability, I have had many customers come in with brass fittings that look perfectly new, but continually burst off under pressure.

The problem is with the old click-on design where the little hooks grab onto the click on nub. Because the water pressure is working in the same direction as the mechanism that holds everything in place it is prone to failure, regardless of the materials used in the fitting itself.

In the case of brass fittings, all that I have seen, still use little plastic grabbers on the inside that fail long before the rest of the fitting which is a shame.

Our fittings twist together with a bayonet-style connection similar to those found at airports for refuelling jets. There's absolutely no way the fittings can burst-off. Your hose will explode at high pressure long before the fittings let go.

The fittings are made of a heavy-duty nylon that is extremely durable and should last many years without breaking down.

The fittings are also very easy to fit onto any standard garden hose as you can see in this video - http://youtu.be/8iHelPvryC8

      • +3

Totally agree about the brass fittings comment.

I bought two Neta brass fittings and they continually burst off. Was a total waste of money.

    • used to have these types of fittings but found them easy enough to break (drop the hose end on cement/paving and the clip that sticks out snaps off easy), difficult to connect (try ducking out to swap hoses in the late evening with no light source - alignment is difficult, or if once is covered in sand you have no hope of sliding the surfaces together), and expensive and time consuming to find a replacement (not commonly found in shops when I had em - see how your garden likes no being watered while you wait for a replacement in the mail).

      Brass all the way.

      • +1

Regarding regarding the broken lug off the connection, I would be very interested to know when you purchased. There was a period when we switched to ABS plastic for the fittings (they look nicer, but the plastic is quite hard and can crack on impact). We have since gone back to a high grade nylon that is bomb-proof.

Please send me a PM with your email address and I would be happy to send you a complete set of fittings free of charge.

I just did a quick google for reviews and found the qvcuk site. All the negative reviews seem to related to people unable to get the fittings on the hose at all or water spraying out from the tap connection.

I suspect the poor reviews are due to the product not being fitted correctly. It IS fiddly to put on the hose properly, and if you miss out any of the bits, it presumably will leak badly.

We have 4 taps with hoselink on all of them and do not have any problems at all with water leaking, let alone "spraying out" from the connection.

I suspect one of the reasons the manufacturer started selling direct only was because there were too many people buying these from the hardware store, taking them home and shoving them on the end of the hose without reading the instructions and then being an unhappy customer and panning them.

      • +1

Jebdra, you've nailed it - we insist on having a direct relationship with our customers to ensure that they have the right information and so we can best support them if issues arise.

While harder than putting on regular click-on fittings, it takes about a minute to install Hoselink and then you never have to worry about them again.

We include clear instructions for installation with every order and have a handy installation video that shows just how easy it is to install hoselink fittings:
        http://youtu.be/8iHelPvryC8

If at any time, you get a spray from between Hoselink fittings and have confirmed that both of the o-rings are in place and that the fitting is connected correctly, please call us and we would be happy to send out a replacement same day. In metro areas it isn't unusual to receive the replacement same-day or the next.

We have hoselink fittings we bought 15 years ago and they're still working as well as when they were new. They're a fantastic product, although I'm not sure why they were removed from stores - they were certainly a lot more accessible then. Not eveyone is prepared to order their hose fittings mail order when they can go to the local hardware, where ever and pick them up when they need them.

And as for brass fittings, they're not what they used to be. With the nylon o rings etc in them now, they are no longer anywhere near as durable as they were without them.

    • +3

Always cool to hear from customers who have had our fittings for so long. I hope they were the cool retro blue and red ones.

The main reason we now only sell direct to consumers is that it allows us to provide the product at a lower price while delivering better customer service than we would if we worked through a third party.

When you buy from us, we have a record of your purchase in our system - so if you have any issues just call up and we can see exactly when and what you ordered. No more receipts written in disappearing ink!

Having a centralized system of distribution and service is the only way we can offer a three year warranty and really stand by it.

With our fittings, you won't have to head to the hardware store year-after-year to replace cheap fittings (often buying a bunch of other things you probably won't need in the process).

Great feedback thus far, please keep it coming.

  • Why does the Spray Gun and Swivel adaptor only have 12 months warranty as opposed to 3 years?

    • While we have designed and tested both the spray gun and swivel connector to much higher pressures and harsher conditions than what they would normally encounter for most scenarios, they do a have a number of moving parts and see much more abuse than the fittings themselves which have no moving parts.

Both items should last many years provided they are treated with reasonable care.

That said, if at any time, you have a Hoselink product that fails, even if out of warranty, please give us a call and we will do our best to make it right.

Mr Hoselink, are these the ones that used to sell in BigW/Kmart about 10 years ago?
If so I had a set and found that they were flawless when it came to staying on the hose. (better than brass)
Mine broke after a couple of years though.
I may just get another set.

    • Hoselink was indeed available in Big W and K-mart 10 years ago, but now we only sell direct. This ensures that we can keep our prices low while delivering great customer support.

All fittings you purchase from Hoselink today are compatible with any old Hoselink fittings you may have lying around.

  • "Hoselink's patented hose connections are superior to the standard click-on garden hose fittings in every way. They're durable, will never burst off your hose, and simply do not leak. In addition, they are covered by a three year warranty and a lifetime no-burst guarantee."
question, i get confuse that you get three year warranty and a lifetime no-burst guarantee. what is the different?

    • Provided the Hoselink fittings are intact and installed correctly, we guarantee that they will never burst off your hose.

If you take a look at the installation video, it helps demonstrate why we offer a no-burst guarantee: http://youtu.be/8iHelPvryC8

The hose fits over a barbed stem and then the yellow nut comes down and clamps the white split ring over the barb. It's pretty incredible if I do say do myself.

      • i am asking to you, what is the different between 3 years warranty and a lifetime no burst guarantee.
which one that cover under the 3 years warranty?

        • +2

If the fittings were to fail prematurely, say the nylon split, or they started to leak, you would be covered by the 3 year warranty and we would send out replacements.

That said, whether the fittings are 2 years old or 20 years old - provided they are still in one piece and fitted correctly, they won't burst off your hose. Thus our guarantee.

          thanks for your explanation

We've fairly recently bought these fittings and absolutely love them.

Using either brass (netta) or plastic (pope) fittings we've had endless problems with the hose leaking at the fitting and/or bursting off. We once lost an entire tank of rainwater because we forgot to turn off the tap, and the connector fell of the hose at the tap end while we were out. Also, even though they are supposed to be universal, the different brands always seem to have problems clicking together without leaking.

These hoselink fittings are not perfect. Others have mentioned the difficulty of connecting a hose to the tap, or a nozzle to the end of the hose, particularly when it's dark, as they need to aligned. It can be a bit of fiddle. Also, the fact the connection does not rotate like the click fittings can be a bit of nuisance. But these are minor issues and strength of the connection is just brilliant. We've left taps with mains pressure on for days, with no leaks. We've also joined 3 hoses together to reach down to the back and pulled them over rough ground without any problems. If you'd tried that using ordinary hose connectors, you'd have to carefully walk each segment out so you didn't put too much strain on the joint.

Having bought and used the connectors for a few months, we've also bought their retractable hose reel. Haven't had it long enough to say anything about durability, but it works well. I just wish they'd offer a cover for it. The warranty is voided if you leave it in full sun for a long time, so I've had to try to design and make a cover for it - not very easy as I'm not good at sewing.

The only thing I'm cross about is that I don't need any more fittings so I can't take advantage of this deal :(

    • +1

Thank you for glowing review and for the suggestion of a hose reel cover - I promise to look into this and see what is involved with making one.

The hose reels are completely UV stabilized and pretty heavy-duty, so I doubt being out in the sun would do them too much harm. That said, I wouldn't leave them in direct sunlight in some of the hottest parts of Australia.

Regarding the point made about our fittings not rotating, we've actually resolved this by introducing a swivel connector that comes standard with the "Deluxe Ned Kelly Starter Kit" that is part of this offer. The swivel connector has been tested to over 300psi and is extremely durable.

      • is the current offer for Deluxe Ned Kelly Starter Kit or Ned Kelly Starter Kit.

        Your website says the latter

        • +1

          Sorry for the confusion.

The deal is actually on both. We didn't have space on the banner to write both, but it is indicated on the text of actual deal of the Week page itself:
          http://www.hoselink.com.au/view/DotW

          Cheers!

  • I would buy the shit out of these if I had a hose.

    • +1

I got 99 problems but a hose aint one.

  • do you if or when would the auto rewind hosereel be on sale?

    • At this time, we have no plans for a sale on our hose reels. If and when we do, I promise to post it on OzBargain.

    Hello,

I came across hose-link products as it came with the house i bought while back.

There were only 3-4 connectors. When I wanted to add more hoses, i didnt know what these non-breakable connectors were. I actually cursed them because i didnt know what they were and they were compatible with whatever i could buy at local hardware stores.
Believe me - I went through so many connectors as none of them lasted more than a few months.

Then I saw your TV add and only then I got to know the name of this fantastic product.

You should print the name on your products.

    • +1

We hear this all the time. The fittings last forever and turn up all sorts of places, but if you had absolutely no idea where they came from, there would be no way to find replacements. We now print the website address on all fittings which we hope will provide a good indication of where they come from.

      Thanks for sharing!

  • timing is perfect need to replace my home hose set up, can you tell us what items the other deals will be on, ? don't want to wait 8 weeks for a hose or other items that may never come up.

    • +1

Unfortunately, the sale items are a closely guarded secret, unbeknown even to me!

Auto hose reels are unlikely to go on sale. If you are in need of multiple sets of fittings for different hoses or taps, now would probably be the best time to buy.

If you don't need the extra set of fittings, they make a great gift for any gardener as well.

      • +2

thanks for the response, already ordered this deal, just need a decent hose, and as you know with so many choices, it is very hard to seperate the good from the bad, would like sometihng to match the quality of your fittings

  • +1

Bought myself a pack a few days ago. Fantastic attachments. Unfortunately as a side effect of the new firm seals the hose seems to be giving way under the new found pressure with leaks popping up everywhere! So in conclusion I will be now watching for any sales of your hoses… I hope to purchase a retractable hose but from previous posts it seems unlikely these will go on special. Nevertheless I will keep my fingers crossed

    • I have a very similar story.

When I started working for the company, my flatmates were complaining that the hose kept bursting off every time they went to hose off their surf boards. I bragged about the fact that they would be able to leave the tap on indefinitely (at the back of the house) and then just use the spray gun as needed (front of house).

The fittings worked as expected, but unfortunately within a day or two the cheapo hose we had set up exploded and flooded the garden. I have since switched to better hose (our TekPro) and haven't had a problem leaving the tap on for the past 6 months.

Moral of the story: Ensure you have a decent hose if you plan on leaving the tap on all the time.

We have commissioned independent testing of our fittings and the pressures they can withstand before failure. In most tests, the engineers found that the hose would explode before the fittings failed - http://www.hoselink.com.au/view/Testing_and_Technology

Ordered the Deluxe option, looking @ feedback/comments above - I was sold.

  • +1

also ordered the Deluxe and Super Jet Washer! just in time….expires today!

    cheers

  • Ordered last night, received today. Just one question; the hose link fittings bags have both been opened then sticky taped back up, is that just to check them? or are they refurbished?
    Thanks.

    • Hello!

We never sell refurbished items and the bags were likely re-taped because they had become unsealed in transit. Odd that this would happen to both bags, so I will definitely look into it. Thanks for letting me know!

If you have all the pieces, you should be good to go. Let me know if anything is missing and I'll post it out straight away.

Sorry I didn't reply sooner - I missed your message and was out of office yesterday. Sincerely hope you enjoy the product.
