Sell the laptop, keep the GPU? Is that the deal?

    • +2

The epgu is stunted and has a limited use case, so I don't think it's worth very much.

      • +1

        the gpu is not shuckable?

    • +3

It's a mobile GPU with a proprietary plug

Laptop on its own is $2238, which makes the egpu $1160, if that means anything to anyone. I don't think this egpu is compatible with anything else, though.

Heads up. Its a different cpu. Ryzen 7 vs Ryzen 9

    $600 cheaper then previous deal!

  • this is a mad deal. other than the soldered ram on the laptop.

  • Can you take the 3080 out the egpu?

    • it is a mobile version of the 3080.

I'm guessing you could sell the eGPU for almost $2,000.
Would be a great laptop for $1,400

    • +10

I don't think it would, since this egpu is only compatible with the flow x13. The gpu inside is the mobile version, and nobody wants those.

  • quick …..before the miners snatch it :P

      can't mine on 1650 4g. if it's 1660s i will take it :D

  • What can I do with the ROG XG Mobile, can I use it on other desktop?? I am new to this. Thx

    • +1

No, you can't. That's private connector of Asus. Even this is the 1st laptop from Asus that with this connector and the dock.

No thanks. For this price, I would much rather get a Legion 7 with 3080

    • Legion 7 with 3080 is 3.8k

    • Agree with your sentiment but what's the cheapest Legion 7 3080 you've seen? Surely not as cheap as this?

    • Agree with you. I actually really like the concept, helps keep the laptop lightweight and cool, but the price is still too high.

    • True, the Legion is better, but you have to remember that this is a baby laptop with actually decent specs on its own, which puts it in a different class to a Legion. Maybe there is someone out there who values this specific feature.

    • This is one of the kind you can get from the market right now with both mobility and performance.

  • No click and collect? Why?

  • Seems they pulled the link

    • yeah , seems disappeared!

This is a 1.3kg, pen compatible 2in1, with leading CPU processing power, with good GPU performance in built, and excellent GPU performance (when hooked up to the eGPU) .

There is literally nothing like it on the market. However, it is a very niche device, and I wouldn't recommend it for everyone.

It's pushing the friendship at its original price of 5k, but at this price, it's a steal.

    It makes a good replacement for a SB2 / 3.

There are however downsides (soldered 16GB RAM, Australia only gets 512gb version, m.2 2230 are very hard to find and max out at 1tb, Australia doesn't get the 3050ti with the eGPU bundle, latency of screen, 6 hrs battery life, only 65w charging with 3rd party USBC PD)

    • I probably wouldn't put it as niche, because in the end it is still a gaming laptop, but a well thought out and unique product.

I say it's well thought out, because as with all of these gaming laptops, you need to plug it into the wall for the full performance anyway. Might as well turn the charging brick into an eGPU (and keep the hottest component away from the laptop at the same time). I quite like the idea of it because of this, only concern is that there seems to be a lot of people complaining about the plug on reddit

  • missed it

  • Happy to pay 1.2k for anyone who got this deal but dont need the egpu.

  • the RRP for this GPU I think is $2000+ … and they are in extremely short supply, pretty much impossible to buy… / sold out everywhere

    • its the mobile GPU so definately not at the same price point. In fact you really should compare it to gaming laptops with the 3080 in them, as apparently is doesn't even perform as well as those with the integrated 3080.

  • Same price as the new Mac book M1 Pro
