Lenovo is still better spec but this is still an Alienware. I was looking for something with thunderbolt 4 so this one has it compared to the ryzen model (which is more exp)

Not the best price but not bad considering the 3070 is FHR and not the low powered one so u can get over 60 mh. some users of the R4 have reported getting 67mh

I am unsure if this one has less cuda cores but this seems to be the case for the ryzen r5 models. Unsure if intel versions are affected

256GB SSD? Why does Dell do things like this? 250nit 45% NTSC screens on premium hardware laptops and now this.

Which of Dell's premium laptops have the crappy displays?
I know the low end G-Series do but the XPS and Alienware laptops have quality screens afaik

      • Dell G15 for example has low colour gamut and a 22ms response time for a gaming laptop.

G15 is part of the budget G-Series gaming laptop line up.
I agree it's not great but it isn't on their premium builds.
256GB included on their high end laptop is pretty sad too, 500GB should be the minimum.
Luckily it's easy to add a second NVMe drive

@FireRunner: Fair enough mate. I guess for me a $2300 (RRP) G15 with 3060 is still in the ball park of the more premium laptops.

  • This, or desktop?

As a general rule, I think it goes like this: if you don't need the portability, go for a desktop. You'll get more bang for your buck.

Alienware is Alienware for one thing-its the premium brand of laptops & PCs only matched by say the ROG lineup, you cant really compare it to 'normal' laptop brands because there is a premium tax on it.

Like sure, you can get better performing and cheaper machines, but same can be said for lots of things in life-cars, food, clothing- still doesn't prevent people from buying the more expensive one for the sole reason that it is considered 'premium'.

On that note this deal is great. You would be otherwise hardpressed to find a AW 3060 laptop at this price. For comparison, the m15r6 3060 version with the lower end 11400h is currently onsale on the dell site for $2549.

Checkout JarrodTech's recent R6 review if you're considering this laptop. 46 units left at the time of this comment so should have plenty of time before making a purchase decision.

hi the 3080 are crap. don't get them. the power limit gimps it too hard. 3060 or 3070 with high power is the way to go.

u can get the asus f15 3070 for $2100 but its 85w vs 125w alienware. Hence the game performance/hashrate is much higher.

if battery life is important to u, the ryzen one is much better. Almost twice the battery life when playing youtube.

however i wanted the thunderbolt 4 for egpu. the intel runs cooler. most of the time when gaming u need it to be plugged in anyway.

  • I know it's definitely not Apple to apple

But every gaming laptop deal is reminding me how good the deal of the Acer 3060 $1198 is.

    • i bought the acer $1198 deal.

The cpu is only 4 cores and the gpu power is the low version. 8gb of ram.

I still think its a great laptop for the money though

Must check it, is it possible to extend ssd or not. I bought r5 alienware 2 weeks ago, and try to install 2nd ssd in my laptop. There is no bracket to install 2nd ssd slot. I called dell support centre, they don't have part to fit 2nd ssd slot. I search google to find solution, have to order 3rd party bracket in aliexpress or amazon from oversea. There is no stock in ebay australia.
