When are we going to get these bad boys back on sale?
    Gruner Veltliner 2018, Durif 2018, Nero d'Avola 2018, Montepulciano 2018, Lagrein 2018 and Tannat 2018

    • Sorry but we’ve left those varieties behind in the old Geoff Hardy business. A direction we’re preferring not to head in. Cheers! RD :-)

    • Shame.

Gruner is waaaay nicer than SavBlanc and/or Chardy. And Gris.

The vast majority of the wine drinking public don’t agree with you.
Those varieties like Gruner Veltliner appeal to. about the top 5% of highly engaged wine consumers. They’re just not terribly commercial.
After working with them for ten years I can tell you they were just a big distraction in that business- 80% of time consumed on <10% of revenue.
I also don’t believe you can make that many and do them well. Did I drink them? With the exception of the Gruner, no.

In taking the business forward Bec and I have looked to concentrate on traditional varieties, fewer wines, excel at each of them and deliver them at a great price/quality ratio.

        Cheers RD :-)

        • Fair enough, I understand your decision.

@7hours 44min ago: Thanks for asking the question. It's one of the great things about wine - diverse opinions, of which every single one has validity - enjoyed the discussion, thank you. Have a great weekend. RD :-)

  • Gotta go where the money is I guess.

But I do contest that 8 million Austrians can't be wrong!

But gotta ask Richard, what's with the straight Mourvedre? That's gotta a tougher sell than a Montepulciano or a Nero, I'd thought. What do I know though.

Just bought six to check it out will be a new experience.

    • Money not the only consideration. Are they done well should be first and foremost - everything else flows from that.
Best left to those who are passionate about them and whose core business it is.
It's not just about 8 million Australians, if indeed that is the population of Australian regularly drinking them. They don't export easily either.
As for the Mourvedre, chosen by a Master of Wine for our Canadian distributor. We'll also be doing a Shiraz Tempranillo they've selected too. We then run a little extra off for the www.wineshedsale.com.au - there's only about 100 doz so that volume will be easily mopped up by good people like you without any effort on our part. :-)
Great discussion and thank you for your continued support of the wines over a number of years, it is greatly appreciated.
      Cheers
      RD :-)

      • Austrians! Not Australians. :) Don't be a Yank and make that confusion.

It's the good people of Austria who are putting down the Gruner in serious quantities. Lucky bastards.

I'll be here for when the Shiraz Tempranillo is up for sale. That's normally a fun blend, in my limited experience.

  • Haha. I did notice but politely let it go.
Yes, you’re right some excellent GV in Austria too. Enjoy them as well :-)

  • How does the 2021 Pinot Noir compare to the 2020? Same, better, worse in your opinion?

    • Same great price to quality ratio. Little more fuller bodied. Been enjoying that and the Mourvèdre at home of late. Cheers RD :-)

  • Richard, could you tell me if the reds are fined with animal products? I have enjoyed previous purchases of your range from both here and through another site.

    • Hi Mister Ed. Each of the wines that are Vegan Friendly are marked with VF on the www.wineshedsale.com.au page. Cheers RD :-)

  • Hi, are you going to be selling any of your roses again? Have tried 2 different ones from you guys and loved them both.

    • Hi Chewbot. Thanks for the kind feedback. All sold out I'm afraid. Next release will be July-ish 2022. Always best to buy up when you see them as they do have a tendency to come and go quite quickly at times (last two pallets Canada bound). Cheers RD :-)
