Noticed this offer on my Qantas Discovery.

Please note the following:

  • EG / Caltex Woolworths locations are excluded from this deal. Any locations listed on the Ampol location finder as a Woolworths Caltex location will be excluded from this deal, as these locations are owned by EG Australia. However, Ampol Woolworths Metro locations are included this deal, as they are owned by Ampol (or Ampol franchisees), not EG Australia.

  • Some Ampol or Caltex locations will not accept American Express, or will apply a surcharge for American Express cards. However, I have recently visited multiple locations owned by Ampol Retail Pty Ltd, and they all had signs next to or near the EFTPOS machines stating that American Express cards do not attract a surcharge.

  • Most Ampol or Caltex locations sell AmpolCash or Caltex StarCash physical gift cards, which can be redeemed at all Ampol, Caltex and EG / Caltex Woolworths locations across Australia with EFTPOS facilities.1 A small number of locations will also sell other gift cards (e.g. Amazon, Google Play, PlayStation).

      You can reach the $70 minimum spend in multiple transactions, as long as the transactions are on or before 30 Dec.

      Alternatively, you can do what I am planning to do and spend $70 on a gift card. I'm planning to get an AmpolCash physical gift card, as that can be spent at all Caltex/Ampol locations (including EG / Caltex Woolworths).

          To get the $10 cashback from this offer, you must spend $60 or $70 in-store at Ampol or Caltex locations.

          If you buy an AmpolCash gift card from Shopback, you're actually spending money online at Shopback (and that would not count).

          I’m not aware of any EG / Caltex Woolworths locations that accept AmpolCash digital gift cards. It would require these location to reprogramme their point-of-sale system to accept the QR codes that the digital gift cards use, and I don’t think they would ever get around to that.

          A couple of people commented further down this deal that their local Ampol / Caltex locations are currently selling AmpolCash / Caltex StarCash physical gift cards at a 5% discount, so you may be able to save money on a physical gift card without having to go through ShopBack, etc.

    Super annoyed that last week I went to the effort of downloading the BPMe app and adding in my payment method etc..

    Filled up, opened the app to pay.. and then discovered you have to open the app and initiate the process before you start to fill up.

      Ah yes, true. I forgot AmpolCash physical gift cards are only available in fixed denominations in-store.

      Alternatively, you could get a third-party gift card, but that depends on whether the Ampol or Caltex you go to actually stocks third-party gift cards. In my experience, most locations seem to only stock AmpolCash physical gift cards, but at least one location I visited a while ago had a small selection of third-party gift cards (e.g. Google Play gift cards, PlayStation gift cards, Xbox gift cards, etc).

      In my experience, if you use your AMEX card saved on your mobile wallet (e.g. Apple Pay, Google Pay, Samsung Pay), you are still eligible for AMEX cashback offers, as you are using a digital version of your physical AMEX card to directly pay for items.

        That's incorrect.

        Some Ampol / Caltex locations will accept the 4c or 6c per litre Woolworths fuel discount. You can find these locations by ticking Woolworths Fuel Discounts on the filter for the Ampol / Caltex location finder.

        I have previously received a 6c per litre discount at a Caltex location when I showed my Everyday Rewards card to the attendant. The attendant didn't even scan the barcode, they just wrote down my Everyday Rewards card number on a copy of my receipt.

    Have noticed they try to add the surcharge if they see what card you're using, payment via Gpay without revealing the card goes through without surcharge. Similar at some BP locations too.

        Totally agree. Had to raise it with customer service couple of weeks ago in regards with one of the offers I had redeemed. Basically their system showed that I only activated the offer on the 26th but purchased my item on the 25th (and it shows on my account that I was charged on 25th). I told them it was impossible as I always double check before I pull the trigger over the years, they were then happy to rectify it, and the statement credit was in my account within 3 days.

        Later when I happened to check the order confirmation email from the verdor which I immediately received after making the purchase online, I noticed it was sent to me at 8:40pm on 26th. That makes me wonder maybe somehow US datetime was used to record my purchase time, while AUS datetime was used to record my offer activation time.

      I wouldn’t be worried.

      I purchased $75 worth of AmpolCash gift cards for $71.25 (i.e. discounted by 5%) on 12 Nov, and that charge has already been posted to my account.

      In the AMEX Offers section on My Account on the AMEX website (not the app), the offer is no longer available under the Saved to Card tab, but I can see a $10 savings redeemed at Ampol under the Savings tab. The $10 has not been credited to my account yet, but I expect it to be credited soon.

      Can you see the $10 savings on your account on the AMEX website?
