"Revolut" Visa Card. A Good Card for Those Free Trial Memberships That You're Not Sure You Want to Continue

Virtual card option
I found this card that is basically fee free and it creates a virtual card number.
Thus when I use to try a free trial period and life gets hectic and I forget to cancel prior to them charging me at the end of the free trial period, this card creates a virtual different number each time.

Thus when they try and recharge the card (most times sneakily) they cant.

I have applied and was issued the virtual card within minutes.

Haven't tried it yet but as far as reviews go it seems legit.

I've been using revolut for a while and to be honest, I'm loving it. Get all the simple and easy features I need. I never load more than I need into the account, just in case anything happens (there are some horror stories of account locks/closures) and it works fine!

    • Yeah. I'm never sure about those locks/closures.

I've seen a lot of people state that these tend to be either those doing dodgy purchaes, etc.
And also things like IRS in America shutting off their card when they suspect illegal activities or card fraud attacks

Glad to hear that it's as good those as they say.

I haven't had much chance to try it yet as I was more focused on getting the kickbacks from my crypto coin card atm.

      Cheers.

As someone that's been quite active on the official community end r/Revolut most of the account closes you hear about and have had been hearing about for ages and not U.S.-based they've only been in the US market for nearly as long as they've been in the Australian market which is barely any time.

Yes you get the occasional account closure message posted that is dodgy to all hell but most of them seem to be completely random nonsense where there is little to no communication from Revolut and no resolution path for the customer.

        • So in other words non legit complaints?

          • @FredAstair: No I would say the majority of them are legitimate complaints. Just not all of them from r/Revolut.

If you've ever had to deal with them personally you can see how some of the shit goes down. Not to mention their practice is here.

  • will this work for Amazon prime?

  • Revolut has been around for ages. You can either do a virtual card which remains the same, or a disposable online shopping one which is automatically disabled after one charge and can't be used again.

It's also useful for manufactured spend as some banks don't consider loading it with a credit card as a cash advance (it's MCC code is financial services), and revolut allows you to do currency conversions and even deposit the same amount of money right back into your Oz bank account.

You can easily clear 20,000 points a month with it.

    • Is that loophole still open? I stopped looking when they closed Amex off

      • It is for my Visa. Stopped working for a while but then started again.

The free Revolut account provides a virtual card which remains the same.
To get a disposable virtual credit card (where the number changes after each transaction), you need the Premium Revolut account at A$10.99/month. I would dearly love to have a facility like that, but I wouldn't pay that much for it.

      • The disposable one is free for me and I don't have premium. Maybe it's grandfathered in?

        • As I've said in a couple of the deal post the features offered on the free plan flip-flop back and forth on what they actually give you for free.

        • You should be grandfathered in; I am.

Signed up the other week for the free plan. Just got the physical card delivered free today and have used both virtual and disposal virtual cards.

        • Signed up for free today, I don't actually need a physical card, but I confirm that you can set up both virtual and disposal virtual cards.
Thanks for letting us know about this.
The disposable virtual card puts the customer back in control, unlike the current situation where giving a card number to a vendor is like opening your wallet and saying "Help yourself".

          • @kmwa: Yep exactly. I don't even really need the physical card also but hey it was free. I might not even activate it actually.

    • What happens if you need to get a refund?

It just goes back into the main revolut account.

But what would happen if you wanna refund sth?

    • +1

It still goes back to the main account. Just like if you refund to a cancelled credit card.

      • yeah but if you cancel your credit card how does that work?

  • Does this work for ubereats? My other prepaid cards don't work on food apps.

So you are attempting to SCAM, and RORT…. I hope Oz Bargain is reading this

  • Do this virtual cards hide your identity?

I once used a card with no balance to sign up for something, forgot to unsubscribe, and the vendor hunted me down and tried to claim the funds from me years later.

I do not recommend using a virtual card in an attempt for avoid paying a bill that you legitimately owe.

    • No

    • Agree with that.
But with the sneaky free trial deals they don't want you to notice they're charging you. So for them it's a win win as I see it.

  • Has any one used this for Foxtel subscription 10 days free trial, to access discount movie tickets? And once ended, reopen a new account?

  • Is there an alternative to Revolut?
