    45 Hours!

    • +2

as in the description - some have short stopovers, some don't. Seen a 25 hour one in there too!

      • -1

Yeah , saw that, nice deals…
45hr one just stuck me a bit hard!

        • +4

Indeed, unless you're wanting to explore Singapore - I've done that a few times - Wink Hostel was incredible for a hostel!

          • +3

@beatthatflight: Or just hit the lounge. Singapore has some of the best lounges around and the food is incredible.

            • @nightelves: Actually Singapore Airlines lounges aren't that great. the Gold Lounge didn't even have a toilet in the lounge (do don't even think about a shower or spa like in Hong Kong).

              • @Thatbargainhunter: Silver Kris was good though but that's for business. They have revamped the new Gold Lounge recently so it's a bigger improvement.

                • +1

@nightelves: I'd actually say the Silver Kris lounge was a bit meh, I went in there in 2017 and it was a bit loud and busy with just ok food.

I much preferred the Cathay Pacific Pier lounge which great dining (including plenty of haagan dazs), superb cocktail bar and a great design with a low ceiling and compartmentalised set up that made certain sections of the lounge really quiet and relaxed.

                  • +1

@Pcoder: Yeah but you need to fly OneWorld for that. This is Star Alliance.

                    • @nightelves: I'm just more or less speaking generally, although just before covid hit I was in the Cathay lounge in T4 and that was better than the Silver Kris lounge. The Emirates lounge is also very nice at Singapore

                      • @Pcoder: Yeah no doubt the Pier is better. I've been to the one in Hong Kong and was blown away by it. But because this is the Singapore Airlines deal and therefore you are limited to Star Alliance network hence why I mentioned it.

                        • @nightelves: Sill under $1400 to LHR on Singapore in economy is excellent and even thought it doesn't have lounge access there are still pay entry/priority pass lounges the would suffice. If worst comes to worst you can also get a cheap meal at the hidden staff hawker market in the Changi.

        • +1

You'd be surprised how long some other flights that are going for twice the price cost. In my experience (did this route alot pre-covid), with budget tickets (<$1600) this was pretty standard and that was flying on some pretty crap planes (Like Virgin Australia A330's with their 1998 Entertaiment system). SIA are miles better than anything else you could likely find at this price point. Changi is also (my opinion) the best airport in the world. Heavily drug yourself up on the flight, get well rested and enjoying a stopover at an airport you could easily spend a few days in.

    • +1

1/2 the trip is in the air, lol

  • +2

As I kind of felt, the prices would return to a more normal level when things got back to normal.

The high prices during the Pandemic were more to do with the constraints around seat capacity and quarantining. Now as the airlines have the massive unused capacity, they need to woo back customers, so sales are back to hopefully get the customers back.

    • +2

Wait until the likes of China Airlines (Taiwan) start up again. I think airlines haven't even seen the worst of it yet. Now they have the joys of half empty planes. I will say as far as domestic, Virgin Australia will not reduce pricing due to low demand. I paid $410 from SYD-LST only to be one of 3 on the plane. They also won't do any free upgrades, even for Silver and Gold members. I kindly asked since there was only 3 people on a 180 people plane if I could sit on the over wing emergency exit (as none were being manned) and even that was a refusal as it was an "upgrade". Wait and see ay

      • SYD to LST would be a quarantine affected flight due to the issues of travelling between NSW and Tasmania. The airlines still might be getting a grant for the service as the amount you and the 3 others paid wouldn't cover the cost of having a flight. To make most flights viable, you need at least 50% of the seats filled.

        • Sorry, this was awhile back (should have mentioned). Northern Beaches clustered was starting up (I think last December) and there was still no quarantine in Tasmania at that point. It was around 5 or 6 days later they introduced it. Totally agree our tickets wouldn't have covered the cost of the flight (not even the landing / gate fees at SYD exceed this). I have no idea what the arrangement with the airlines and government was (is), but they did cut the staffing back (2 pilots, 1 attendant). Hopefully, I will never experience this again (environmental concerns and the fact I was 27 rows to the nearest "manned" emergency exit and was a little drunk from the lounge).

        • They just cancel flights and get people to change to other ones to get better occupancy.

  • Any flights to India rep?

    • +4

Sure, lots of them! Qantas has a sale from Dec 6th to Delhi - restarting after 10 years to the capital! Just visit our site, try the dates you want and it'll search the cheapest.

      • Why wouldn't we search and book directly on Qantas site ?

        • +3

Because fares differ by sites. And beat that flight got them good dealz

          • -2

@geeluv: yeah okay. $100 difference I could see.

        • +7

Oh you should check both. Sometimes Qantas might have a sale not available elsewhere, but other times we can find it cheaper. Also if another airline is on sale it'll show up.

      • I always found it bizarre that Qantas didn't fly direct to India given the size of the Indian expat community in Sydney. You just had to look at the size and scale of the repatriation process from India to see the demand

  • +2

Is it possible to extend the layover in Singapore for longer?

    • +1

yes, but u pay a lot more.

      • +1

This always upset me. Many flights ago I wanted to do an overnight stop in ABU with Etihad. They stated the adjustment of 1 night (not including accommodation) would increase the ticket price from ~$1,300 to almost $5,000. It's totally crazy. You would think an airline would want people to visit their country in the hope you return.

        • yea, that's true. same thing happened to me also.

  • +1

Singapore should bring back the $1 stopover

  • +1

Went to the UK during May/Jun a few years ago and the weather was freezing! so much for summer…

    • Yes, spring isn't until April. Summer isn't until Jul - Sep. This deal will be flying into middle of winter. Unless you are looking to go skiing in Europe (in that case fly into Paris).

  • +3

Hate to be the one to say this but covid is absolutely crazy in UK..

    • +1

Imagine flying into winter lock down.

  • Something to take into the account:

When you book with travel agents they have cheeky cancellation/changes fees on top of the airlines.

    Flight centre 300$ For example.

Booking with an airline directly by phone or websites helps to avoid this. Phone bookings normally have a service charge but online you do not see all of the options.

    • -2

I am going to have to disagree. I have used 3rd party websites multiple times to travel and they have worked out to be cheaper than from the actual airlines company. You just have to avoid accepting those additional costs

      • +2

Cancellation&change fees are never cheaper at the third party websites mate.

        Fare yes. Fees no.

      • Having been "stuck" in China in January 2020 when the brown stuff hit the fan, I can say that I will never use a third-party website again. It was painful and stressful trying to get home through dealing with them, rather than using the airline's website. And I was using was one of the better third-party sites.

    • Good luck getting any support from Qantas. Wait times on the phone remain >3 hours and their website is hopeless.

      • +1

Many third party websites don’t have a phone number, and the worst ones don’t even answer emails.

        • Sounds like Qantas at the moment. It took me 6 weeks and a complaint to the TIO to get a very simple problem resolved.

  • +2

Are there any decent deals on business class coming up?

  • +1

I envy people who can sleep on planes. The only reason why I don't do long distance flights :'(

    • I'm one of those who can sleep on planes, but sleeping pills/hitting up the alcohol pre flight might help knock you out?

    • +1

I don’t really sleep but I can get pretty good relaxation by putting in some block out earphones and listening to music.

    • I am sort of the same (can't sleep sitting up). But just visit a GP before you go and get some diazepam/temazapam. Take a few at the start of each leg and sleep for most of the flight. I try to get clever and time taking the tablets with the nighttime hours at your destination, so you get a day ahead of your jet lag. Works best if you can arrive in Europe in the morning, keep out in the sun all day and your jet lag pretty much disappears.

  • Just as countries are talking about reducing CO2 output

    • Hoist the sails!

    • This is where hydrogen will come in.

      • Doubt it

  • +1

Are there ever return flights with periods longer than 1 month (say 2 or 3 months)? When I travel somewhere I like to stay for longer than 2 weeks, I feel like 2 weeks feels way to rushed to experience another country.

  • +9

I live in Singapore. Something to take into account is it's still almost like a prison with Covid restrictions. I would not recommend a long stopover to anyone as you're only limited to groups of 2 anywhere and masks are compulsory indoors and outdoors. Nothing more uncomfortable than wearing a mask outdoors in Singaporean weather.

    • +1

I was gonna go to Europe via Singapore but their current vaccinated traveller lane is a joke.

      • +1

What is the issue with it? I'm hoping to do the same so I'm wondering if I've missed something?

      • The VTL only applies to flights entering Singapore and passengers entering Singapore - not those transiting through Singapore.

        • Still need pre departure test tho…

          • @eutama: Yes, within 48 hours prior to departure and it has to be ordered via path lab with a certificate - cannot be a regular test.

  • Do you have ta pay for the test for each person and kids?

    • I guess each passenger would need to pass
the PCR test before getting on the plane from Sydney.

Passenger pays for this PCR test in Sydney.

I think Singapore has testing on arrival too.

( A relative is flying out today, on Emirates and they both had to pay total AU$ 300,
for PCR tests and get the certificate before arriving at the airport.
I don't know if they made it to their flight or not, but this is the rules of the game now ,
with different countries enforcing different rules on arrival )

Also, check-in at the airport is ~4 hours before the flight, right now.

  • So we got to pay twice for 2 countries? And that payment will be inclusive for the return flights? Thats so crap… !

    • And if you will have a stopover you will pay more.

  • Do you need to have a covid test i you are in transit in Singapore.

    • No, but you can not just room around all over the airport like before. Designated areas,

      • You are correct that you wont be tested on arrival in Singapore.Unfortunately you still need to be tested pre departure (in Australia) :

        Take a pre-departure Covid-19 PCR test
Travellers, including Singapore citizens and permanent residents, transiting through Singapore will be required to take a pre-departure Covid-19 PCR test within 48 hours of the scheduled departure date of their flight.

  • +1

    Testing requirements for VTL flights

Travellers on a VTL flight entering Singapore will be required to take two Covid-19 PCR tests:

A pre-departure test within 48 hours before flight departure.
An on-arrival test at Changi Airport. (Pre-book and pay for it here.)
Infants aged 2 and below (as of calendar year) will be exempted from all PCR tests.

    Other requirements for VTL flights

Short-term visitors must purchase travel insurance, with a minimum coverage of S$30,000 for Covid-19-related medical treatment and hospitalisation costs, prior to travel to Singapore. Singapore Airlines recommends travel insurance from Travel Guard where applicable.

  • Have Singapore airlines released tickets to Europe for June-August yet or is that still in progress? I can't really find anything for the destination I'm after.

Not sure if I need to quickly book something in before prices keep going up (or get sold out) or if most tickets are still yet to be released. I'm guessing the latter but it would suck if I'm wrong.

  • What are people's thoughts on these sale prices being available for Brisbane in the coming months once it's opened up?

They're around $3000 at the moment on these dates, so even with a cheap Bris-Sydney flight on top, it's still a decent saving. But I'm thinking if I just wait, once more flights from Brisbane start properly, there will hopefully be some bargains so we can finally see the family again.

  • Just thought I'd just offer my 2 cents on AU - UK.
If you don't need to go to London…don't fly in to Heathrow.
QANTAS/Emirates fly in to Birmingham. The flight from Dubai - BHX is pretty much similarly timed and priced if you did Dubai - LHR. Birmingham airport is much smaller, maybe MEL sized, you can just walk 5 mins to rental car place, or friends can pick you up right outside in the carpark.

Heathrow you need to catch a mini bus to the car rental place.. it's bloody exhausting, worse if you have kids in tow on top of that.
Obviously BHX might not be convenient for everyone's travels, but the UK I'm sure has other international airports and routes. I unfortunately didn't do my research and wasted many hours getting out of London when I didn't need to be there in the first place.

So this is just a tip, to try some other airports in England that might suit you better instead of always punching in LHR when you search for destinations. Hope everyone enjoys their holidays and travels!
