It has a lower base clock but higher all core boost. Its also likely to have higher individual core boost speeds because its the cream of the crop ccd's inside, though this one is just silicon lottery.
Doesn’t it have a better pathway inside for the different cores? Something about more cache too

I think the biggest asterisk to its performance will be W10 vs W11, the task scheduler for W10 does not like big.LITTLE core configs, whereas W11 almost seems built for purpose for exactly that.
It's going to be very interesting to see the data independent reviewers come back with. Intel's gaming performance claims were made on windows 11 benchmarks that were collected while amds performance was crippled on windows 11.

It'll be cheaper next week after Alder Lake. Then you have AMD's L3 cache refresh soon and Raptor lake + Zen4 in 2022.
If you need it immediately for productivity purposes it makes sense - but if it's just to make your e-peen big, then you'll probably regret it before too long.
I do have uses for it but can wait a while longer not in a rush for it. What's the amd refresh? Haven't heard of that yet.

I'm messing about. There are zero tears but still, you know, its a little hard to swallow. Back in the days when it just felt like the floor price was going to be a long, long time from then. It wasn't. Soon I'll probably make the wrong GPU move. Still a HODL.
Rather than worrying about spending too much on a GPU, spend more time on ways to get more income or better investment.
Had we bought any decent share or crypto currency last year, I doubt we would worry about spending too much on GPU.

Good deal, I remember paying like $1060 for my 5900X last year during the shortage, these 5950X were going for like $1350~1400 around that time.

Wait for Alder Lake, it's clear it may be competitive given all the deals coming up on Zen 3 CPUs, but if it's competitive and priced competitively AND available (maybe after the jump) you may regret spending $1k on a system that is 10-15% less performative for your use case vs the Intel alternative. It's great to finally have competition in the CPU space from both vendors again*
*Assuming Alder Lake is competitive.
