  • Mfi isnt a standard. Its a chip in the cable.
I was under the impression apple charges ~$3 for each one…

    • It's a licensing program - see here. https://mfi.apple.com/en/how-it-works.html

And yes it is very expensive, but the seller got it done recently.

Yep i know how mfi works.
To make a cable mfi apple sell you a chip.
And that chip is around 3 bux per cable. So im not sure how you can sell them for that cheap. My company orders mfi cables from china and cant even get them that cheap and we bought over 5 thousand of them.

Not trying to have a dig at you by the way. Might want to double check your cables. There are devices you can buy to test them.

    • Yep I agree there are some (very) poor review. For what it's worth, (i) Amazon and the seller have free returns; and (ii) I hope you won't have any issues like the majority of the buyers. Had some Ozbargainers chip in last deal with a positive experience too!

The MFi change was also quite recent, but I am not across whether the Amazon listing needs to change (maybe to keep the reviews).

      • The MFi change was also quite recent too

        When?

        • Just a few days ago

          • @pifts: There is no mention in the link you posted, in the title or the description, that these ones being sold are MFi.

            • @jv: I've been told the person who manages the listing to update it. I'll let you know when it gets done.

12th May 2021 is more than just a few days ago OP

          That was for the iphoen.
The iPhone ones are very different ☺️

The notches on the sides are often the point of failure.
      Strange design.

  • I've had issues with expensive Lightning cables with lots of good reviews, too - it seems like a crapshoot no matter what you go with, these days. :(

    • So have I. Spent far too much money on cables for what is obviously an iPad obsoleted by Apple.
Just one of the benefits of Apple - they control what you use, what you pay and for how long.

I've never had a problem with Anker ones, but they are expensive…

      • I think Anker was the brand that I had issues with. Still charges (temperamentally) with the cable plugged in one way, but flipped the other way it doesn't register at all.

        • -1

I think Anker was the brand that I had issues with.

They come with full replacement warranty for 18 months.

  • I am using these https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B07ZPNTCZ4/ almost more than a year and using it every day never missed a beat have one in my car, good length for connecting the kids iPad on the back seat. Yes it works well for data transfer.

      They look absolute SCHITEC

      • Yes but I bought ANKER before this it failed within months

        • -1

Then you would have got the free replacement.

  • which model is it OP?
so we can confidently confirm here https://mfi.apple.com/account/accessory-search

does it say MFI on the packaging?

Could you share a picture of the packaging?

To identify counterfeit or uncertified cables and accessories, look carefully at the accessory's packaging and at the accessory itself. Certified third-party accessories have the MFi badge on their packaging

    source https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204566

A lot of sellers on Amazon who claim MFI certified cables, send them out in plain packaging- possibly because they are not MFI certified

Keen to buy if you are able to provide these details

  • yea. they on sale because reviews are crap.

do everyone a favour and put them in the bin instead of getting everyone else to pay to put in bin

  • mark
