  • This seems like a good deal in today's market.

  • TGP on this model is 100w. Wondering how is it compared to 140w RTX 3070

Edit : looks like your right was 80w base, 100 dynamic boost. Now with updates is 100w.

Review of the 5800h model from this series.

As for your question depends on the following

Intel or AMD and for what games?
Does your laptop have a mux or no mux?
      X8 or x16 memory?
      How's the cooling?

Laptop for those with too much money

Hard pressed to say this is a deal tbh:

    • Basically same chasis as 1k machines and I doubt the internals will be much improved, even restricted at only 100w the thermals are not good. according to this review the gpu hits 87 degrees which is anything but good for a maxq 3080 8gb and god knows what the poor 5900hx will have to suffer through

    • similiar point as the above but yeah with it being the same chasis as 1k ones it feels anything but premium, no per key rgb, all plastic construction, only 1 video output port of hdmi2.0, and the lone usb c doesnt have pd charging nor DP output.

    • no mux switch neither on top of the low wattage gpu

  • Would be perfect if that is 5950. lol, see what happens on black fri.

If your going to drop $3+ grand on a gaming laptop, don't get the one that shares the same body as a $899 laptop.

  • So going by peoples comments…I take it's not a good deal then?

I just assumed R9/3080/32gb ram/2tb SSD was decent for the price.
Not a tech gaming guy here. I'm still using an Acer Predator Helios 300 that I picked up for $1700 before Harvey Norman in Alexandria shutdown. i7/32gb ram/1tb nVme+2tb SSD/GTX1060

Not really. Its filled with nice components but acer crippled it with trash tier chasis.

any decent rtx 3070 laptop+5800h/11800h laptop will beat it performance wise.

      • Hey mate, is there any sort of gaming laptop you recommend. Have had a PC die on me I was using connected to my tv to play some games (only had a 750ti so nothing too intense) and thinking of going down the laptop route and connecting that to the tv and then using it for work as well. Was initially going the used laptop way ultra budget $800ish and getting a used alienware with the 980 or dell g5 with a 1050. But then I read a few of your comments on mining a big part of the outlay back if I can get a new laptop that can do a much better job of work and then PC play on my tv. Thinking I should've jumped on that nitro 3060 deal a few weeks back?

        • yeah definitely the nitro 3060 was a steal. it would be wise to wait for black friday for it to come down in price again

Whats your budget and do you need a laptop like right now? Because I cant find any 3060 laptop deals right now and the cheapest is at the 1.6k-1.7k range.

          • @Brrrrt: No it's not urgent just waiting for a good deal, looking to spend maximum $1k. What are your thoughts about making some back through the mining? How much could I look to mine on one of those machines?

          • @Brrrrt: Appreciate the help mate

The problem with this rtx 3080 is the 95-100w tgp. Although 130w rtx 3060 laptops aren't very common, it performs about as that but you are paying a huge premium for the rtx 3080.

Plus the build is pretty shit for a 3.3k laptop. Just going off of ebay, there are so many better options if you are going to spend around the 3.3k mark

      • Yep, seen brand new ROG Strix laptops with these specs for ~$2500 before. Keep an eye out on eBay OP.

i am happy with my 1.2k RTX3060 Acer

    • thumbs up

    • make sure you claimed your free copy of Guardians of the Galaxy! Brilliant Game.

    • Would love a 3080 but I also love the price difference from this… And am getting pretty awesome performance from it so far

  • Seeing a 2TB SSD in a laptop is a welcomed sight, but the quality of this laptop's chassis is dogshit for $3299
Also the RTX 3080 looks cool on paper but there are other RTX 3080 laptops that come with a higher TDP and more VRAM than 8GB
