    The pen is small

    • Not as big as the ones for the Galaxy tablets? Looking for a replacement

      • +2

Not sure but they say size doesn't matter

        • +10

Don't believe every word that comes out of her mouth

      • The pens for the tablets are much bigger/fatter

        • +1

Is there an ‘i’ missing in pens?

    • That's what she said

    • It's how you use it that counts right?

  • I'm seriously thinking about the s22 even it comes out I wonder if this would be compatible (as in it'll work with the official s-pen case) ? Hmmmm
Probably better to wait as we still don't know exactly what the s22 is gonna look like let alone all the others deets.
Thanks OP anyway I'm sure it's handy for many ppl

    • S22 won't support this and S22 ultra comes with one built in… So either way, if that's why you are buying it, don't.

      • Not necessarily true. All phones which have been compatible with SPens use the same underlying technology. I was able to use a random SPen i found from a Note4 on my S21 ultra. Theres no reason we know of yet that it wont be compatible unless they fully change the SPen technology.
Though i agree for his use case he should wait and it wouldnt fit the compatible case.

        • I didn't say it won't be compatible, I said the S22 ultra is going to come with one built in, so no point buying another.

    • The next S22 ultra is basically a galaxy note except in name. May as well wait for that one. The regular s22's are similar to the s21's.

      https://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_s22_ultra_leaks_in_h…

  • Other than taking notes, annotating etc - what would be another use case for this?

  • Anyone know how these pens fare with the regular (non ultra/plus) S21? I've tried to search everywhere and all reviews just talk about the Ultra, couldn't find any discussions on trying it out with the regular/base models.

    • +2

Only s21 ultra support S Pen not S21 and S21plus

      • -2

I know, but just wanted to see if anyone had tried and what it was like. Is it just like any normal 3rd party cheap pen?

        • +5

Only the s21 ultra has a special digitiser screen that supports the s pen

I will try my s pen with normal S21 and report later but my guess is that it will not work.. At all.

" S Pen is an inductive stylus. The display on the Note has what's called an active digitizer under the glass. When the S Pen gets close to the screen, the magnetic field of the active digitizer induces a current that powers its internal circuitry. Power is passed here just like a wireless charging mat, it's just not inducing nearly as much power."

Without the active digitiser layer the s pen is non functional

Edit: I tested and can confirm pen no worky

  • I've been waiting for a deal on this! Thanks OP

  • Would this work with my Lenovo Xiaoxin Pad Pro I purchased last week?

  • +1

This might be a better option if you need it with the cover (albeit Harvey Norman…) its $58 for s pen and cover.

The separate Spigen case can be bought for $23 and fits this S pen so overall same price.Reviews say it's better than the Samsung case. https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B08T59FXGF/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt…

    • does the case come with the pen??

      • No. But the Samsung one for 58 does. I was just saying for 35+23 = 58 the price is the same but Spigen case might be better.

    • Amazon priced matched it.

  • Most likely the old version without blutooth. They claim it needed to have the supplied battery inserted! Really? Phones get new sofware making this one a dinasaur.
Only ever ordered once from Amazon. They lied at me, no stock, waited for ages and now stuck on prime charges. Sorry Jeff you get like Gerry!

  • Work on the Fold 2?

    • Fold 2 doesn't have s-pen support. Fold 3 has s-pen support but it uses a different s-pen that won't take the normal s-pen from Note series.

  • Work with Ipad & laptop?

    • Nope with iPad (s-pen requires the device to support Wacom EMR tech).
Probably no with laptop as well? There are devices that has Wacom EMR supports, but not all styluses uses Wacom EMR tech.

This is a rip-off. Just buy a note 8 pen off ebay for $10 and get the same functionality

    • +1

They did update the stylus thoroughout the generations, though older stylus are compatiable with the current ones. I think getting an older generation one might be better than just getting a newer one if you don't need those features.

I personally don't think the bluetooth feature is that useful but ymmv (which probably is the biggest difference between this and Note 8, since from Note 9 onward, they included a capacitor or a battery for a bluetooth connection).

      • 100% never used it on my note 9.

But the fold 3 though, means you can take pictures while the phone is in flex mode.

Samsung following Apple. Next fold 4 will add inbuilt spen

Then fold 5 will have Bluetooth lol

        • They use completely different technologies altogether. I think it made sense for Apple Pencil to have bluetooth feature from get go (since you know, it required battery and connections between the device and the pen), whereas Wacom EMR (and therefore s-pen) doesn't. The features like air actions, I think utilises bluetooth (and therefore requires battery) though, so that's been there since Note 9.

In my opinion, it's a feature creep. S pen was perfectly fine as a stylus that doesn't require any batteries. I guess its stylus function still doesn't require batteries so adding a battery and bluetooth features wasn't taking away from the stylus function, but I still don't understand why they needed to add those "features".

There are other aspects that I know have been improving like the tipping material and how thin the tip is, but those are something that's hard to really get an information on and I don't think at least the thickness of the tip has changed much (0.7mm?).

        • Have a Note 9 and Note 10 Plus where the Stylus has in-built Bluetooth features. Never used the Bluetooth feature and I am a heavy S-pen user.

For photos, I always use Palm Gesture which in my opinion works better than the fiddly button on the S-Pen and the uncertainity that you are out of range when taking a photo. Maybe this is an option on Fold 3 too.

          • @RandomDealHunter: I have heard that later models (Note 10) have 6 axis sensors that allow you to do actions in mid air. I don't use any of that with my s pen on my tablet :P
            https://www.theverge.com/2019/8/7/20755070/samsung-galaxy-no…

I think it was a feature creep. Maybe because they felt the need to make the s-pen " better" somehow and they were out of ideas? It is not like you can make the battery life better on a device that doesn't require battery, or increase the pressure sensitivity on it forever.

      • OK I will eat my words a little, s21 utlra pen doesn't seem to have bluetooth features.

    • I think I read somewhere this one is specific to the S21 Ultra and has a nib designed to retract slightly to deal with the different screen on S21 Ultra. The Note pens do not do this, but from the videos I've seen on YouTube, seem to have the same functionality.

      • That's for the fold 3 which has a softer screen. It will retract when you press on it to stop it from damaging the screen.

        • My bad. Got it mixed up

    • Took me to get a few to find what works nice and smooth. A bit loose in a cheap case but cheap overall!

  • Hope it is better than the one that came with my Note 20 Ultra. It has been really bad compared to the pen from my Note 9.

  • honestly its so hard to write on a phone. way too small of a screen

There you go .. Samsung tried to become apple, they thought they could cancel the note series and sell the s pen separately like apple pencil for $100 or more . I just couldn't stop laughing when I saw this post. S pen for $35. Ha ha ha.. I don't think it is even worth $35.

  • This pen works impressively well on my S21U its very precise & sensitive for something that doesn't have a battery

  • +1

Further price drop from $35 now to $24.

    • +1

thanks for the headsup. Cancelled my $35 order which still had not shipped yet and reordered at the lower price
