  • How do these actually stack up against an equivalent iPad?

    • +1

Compared to the base iPad, they probably trade blows on display, camera and basic connectivity, with the exception being Bluetooth 5.2 support on this.

In terms of CPU and GPU behind that, the iPad is ahead, and the Samsung has a stylus pen.

I'd be looking at the Xiaomi Pad 5 during 11.11, which is like an iPad Pro lite, just lacking the aforementioned Bluetooth 5.2 connectivity (but better bluetooth codec support than the iPad Pro).

      • Or the lenovo that popped up on here a couple of weeks ago, both seem to be the bang for buck champs in the android space. The pen support on this is far superior to either but if that's not important both offer s7+ levels of performance.

        • Pentile-like (Delta arrangement) OLED kills that one for me. It's a faked resolution, and it shows when you're not watching video.

The only downside of the Xiaomi Pad 5 for the 11.11 price is that the SD 860 doesn't support Bluetooth 5.2, which means LC3 support may not be introduced. The SD 870 in the Pro version does, but there's no global version, which means no DRM support.

          • @jasswolf: I think your thinking of the version from last year. While still pentile, reviewers said you're only going to notice it on text and even then it's not too bad and doesn't stand out on the 2021.

EDIT: referring to the lenovo model, I don't recall what they said about the mipad, I'll look around this evening and update this post.

@AEKaBeer: Xiaomi one is IPS LCD. Lenovo is Delta-arrangement, which works on the same principle as Pentile, while avoiding patents and being slightly better.

It's still using a larger subpixel within the arrangement and optical illusions to fake higher resolution, and it's still pretty visible.

      • Is there much benefit to having BT 5.2?

        • It guarantees LC3 support, which will improve audio quality. There's also additional power savings for audio and low energy devices.

Ideally though you want LC3Plus low latency support in your devices.

    • there's the 1T sized hole for starters…

      • What's a 1T sized hole?

1 year warranty, first-party service options in Australia, and the joy of living rent-free in YellowKnight's head.

If you have any problems, the retailer will help you, and out of warranty third party tablet repairs are easier and cheaper done than Samsung anyway.

  • The tab s7 which is much better than this has been on sale for not much more before.

  • When I went to the actual Samsung Product Page, absolute first text at the top of page,

"Take in the vibrant colours of Galaxy Tab S7 FE's 12.4" display. The vibrant screen lets details shine, and the cinematic experience is enhanced with the incredible sound by AKG. "

When I scroll to the bottom of the page and find the specifications,

    Size (Main Display): 12.4" (315.0mm)
Rear Camera - Resolution: 8.0 MP
    Weight: 610 grams
    CPU Speed: 2.4GHz, 1.8GHz*

When I click the "show more" tab, it expands out three pages of specifications, but takes you to the absolute bottom. Then when you have to scroll all the way up to the top of the specifications

    Technology (Main Display): TFT

Seems like Samsung is trying REALLY hard to avoid people realizing it doesn't have OLED

    • I think it's VA panel. I was kinda surprised by that since I thought tablets need better viewing angles.

      • It's IPS according to the reviews I watched.

        • I am inclined to believe that it's a VA panel, and I personally think the reviewers that say otherwise haven't really reviewed the device properly. At least that makes more sense in my opinion in terms of the viewing angle. It is also possible that the screen on S7 FE is just bad with bad viewing angles, but I think it being a VA panel makes more sense?

Here is a reviewer who looks mainly at displays. He is a Korean reviewer but, I think he shows the differences in viewing angle between S7 FE and S7 the best. At least I don't think the viewing angle bit requires you to know Korean to see the difference.

He looks at viewing angle and few other bits and pieces afterwards (and reviews the display).
