Optus Samsung Galaxy Note $40/Month w/ 2 Months Free

36

Better deal than the vodafone deal posted earlier on.
Would also rather go on optus
It is $19 a month plus $21 handset repayments (i.e. $40/month for 22 months).

  • The information on the subject title looks inconsistent with the Optus page. How do you get $41? And the page only says 2 months free, not 3.

    Please explain?

  • +2

$40/month for 22 months (on a 24 months contract) = $880 and you get $70 worth of calls + 100MB data each month.

Buying outright from eGlobalDigitalCameras - $542, sign up to LiveConnected Tribe 11 for $10.99/month + $20 starter pack = $825.76 after 24 months and you get $500 worth of calls + 1.5GB data each month.

    Hmmm….

    Edit: Actually, $19 + $21 = $40/month, not $41.

    • Thanks Scotty. That $19 plan is almost worthless then.
      poor value.

      • Except if you cant afford to cough up the upfront cost for the handset the MRO may be better suited to your budget.

        • And the fact that eglobal and LC aren't problem free for those who don't know.

    • Nice comparison. No deal.

    • Yes but DWI does not give 24 month samsung warranty

      check out Whirlpool thread

  • Obviously they don't factor their free months into their total minimum costs?

Optus "Min. total cost is $1,070.00 over 24 months"
Voda "Minimum cost over 24 months is $1056."

    • +2

      Optus did; Voda didn't

      Optus:
      Access fee $29 * 22 months = $638 [2 free]
      Handset $18 * 24 = $432
      Total $1070

      Voda:
      Access $29 * 23 = $667 [1 free]
      Handset $15 * 24 = $360
      Total $1027

      • Ah cheers Dave….

Sorry Bugatti, it's not better then Voda….
I think everyone's aware of coverage/customer service, etc comparisons between telcos
So I'm only voting on the deal and it's not better the the other one.

  • Very bad experiences with optus postpaid before, so wont with optus forever.

  • -1

best postpaid deal for galaxy note

  • -3

    better than vodafone

    • Vodafone does have more included calls and data though ($180 calls + 200MB data per month).

      • Yeah but calls per minute varies

    • I dont think so. Optus has very bad customer services. No free calls between optus customers. No international calls included, no free sim replace. no friendly customer care.

So for me either telstra or vodafone, no optus at all.

As an ozbargainer, obviously 100 cashback from buckscoop makes the vodafone deal much cheaper than just 2 month access fee free with optus.

      • Telstra or Vodafone also offer the bad customer service, you just have to ask ;)

        • They just hang up my call. very rude.

        • Hi John, i actually deal with them (Optus) everyday, both consumer and business and i dont beleive they actually hang up on you unless you are being abusive.

Given they are very frustrating, most mobile support is exactly the same , its the call taker that makes the difference.

        • So you work for them. I am not. I was just a postpaid user.

and I only deal with them once when I had a trouble with my account.

        • Amen to that brother … I spent 2 weeks calling Optus and Vodaphone everyday. Call centre staff (which I couldn't understand properly except after asking them to repeat themselves 1 or 3) times seemed unable to complete simple tasks such as "activating a new SIM" and "updating address details".

I came to the conclusion that I have better things to do than waste hours and hours on what is a frustrating experience that, no joke, makes me me angry and depressed. So I go into a store now anytime I want something done and it gets done in a minute and I'm out of there.

I'm about to change to Amaysim - I read they have AU call centres? Amen?

        • @John:
I worked (not the past tense) for Optus for around 5 years. If people are hanging up on you, there has to be a good reason because they are putting their jobs at risk by doing it. Judging by your posts already, I don't think the problem lies at their end.

        • No John i am a customer of theirs, maybe you should see how it is working in customer support and try a little sympathy. I am sure if i had to deal with you everyday i would hang up on you!

        • @Modokun @Mikinoz

Thanks for your replies. I only called them once due to a account issue. Since they hanged up my call. I canceled my service and will never with optus again.

Thank you Modokun. You have shown the way that Optus treats their customers. You even know nothing but say all my fault. I still remember she was laughing on the other end. she is not professional and well-trained at all.

        • @John
Did you even read what I wrote? I haven't worked for them in years. My personal interest in upholding their reputation is absolutely nil. I am not a company rep, I am not a current employee and I am not a share holder.

I am assuming based on the way you communicate that it is not only Optus you find yourself having trouble with.

      • AFAIK only Virgin Mobile and TPG have international calls included in their caps.

        • No Vodafone does as well

  • this is not a real deal..
you're paying too much on the handset installment, and getting little value on the plan itself

  • I got a nexus S from voda for $29/mth plan I thought that was a decent deal as the phone was quote exp.
After that the price of the phones plummeted. The price of all phones plummeted.

If i were to do it all over again,
I would buy the phone separately, and get a plan from TPG, liveconnect or amysim.

100mb is woefully inadequate even for a person who use 3g as lightly as i do.
    500mb is more reasonable.

  • All the Telco are just F**king stupid at pricing for this handset. Do any of them know this handset has been on the market for almost a year and import price is about $550.
These $19/$29 are useless for most users. To calculate your cost correctly you need to use medium plans. According to http://www.whistleout.com.au, the cheapest plan is with DoDo with total cost of $1317.60.
For the same amount of call and data, you can put a live connected sim in an outright purchased Galaxy Note. This will cost you $550 + ($11*24) =$814
You are talking a price difference of over $500 plus you are not bond to a contract. To those who are so into Australia warranty…..please don’t even start. With a price difference like this; if the phone breaks, I can send the phone back for repair to the grey importer and let them take their time and use the price different to buy a second phone ($500 can buy u a very decent spare phone).
Australia mobile providers need to wake up and stop this kind of profit skimming with so call new handsets. With our dollar so high and so many cheap prepaid plan out there, it really makes grey import with prepaid sim a much better option than signing up to a contract.

    • lol its not ONE year yet~~ 6months?

    • Settle Petal

    • Do any of them know this handset has been on the market for almost a year…

Yes they know. Yes the OzBers know. However the average consumers might not. Most people rely on the ads on TV or paper to tell them what's new.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 for example — it has been out for ages and by the time Samsung was finally allowed to sell it and when all other Tegra 2 Android tables have been discounted to ~$300 — retailers and telecom then try to advertise it as though it has just been out on the market at $500+.

Australia mobile providers need to wake up and stop this kind of profit skimming with so call new handsets.

Telling a business to stop getting more profit?! :) What else are they supposed to do? Uninformed people will continue to buy things at inflated price (to subsidise OzBargainers some might say). So do educate your family and friends when they make purchase decisions.

The fact that it's been out for a little over half a year or so is irrelevant at the current time IMO - it's currently one of the fastest phones around and nothing else is available with 5.3" screen. If you want a screen this size there's nothing else.

It's not unusual for phones to be over one year old before making it to major markets like the USA or Europe.
