good deal. shame about the starter pack cost which is almost 2 months worth of usage

    • +3

Rep, Give us Ozbargainers a code or something to sign up and ill sign up! Doesn't have to be free just something! BTW great timing I need a new plan in a month ;)

      • +1

Rep rarely replies.. 120 comments and none from them.
That is why I have not joined. A ozbargain special would be great!
        Support those that support you..

  • Do you still need starter pack if your exisiting customer?

    • +1

I recall paying a $16 transfer/admin fee when I changed plans with lc

I gave this deal a +ve even though it has been around for a while. It is what we are on.

  • Good deal, using the "Diablo Rosso Medium" plan now, can I transfer to Tribe 11 plan uninterruptedly?

    • +1

you should be able to, i transferred across from their last ozbargain exclusive offer and it just changed over at the start of the month. Such good value in this deal!

      • thanks!

    • I'm pretty sure you need to pay a transfer fee to change plans. I think it's around $15

      • I asked about changing to $10.99 Tribe from $10.99 Pioneer Medium (same except $500 calls vs $450) but it will cost $16 to change so not worth it for me. Extract from LC support email:

        a) All plan changes are processed at the end of the current billing cycle to avoid any issues with pro-rata billing.
        b) Pricing for your new plan commences in the month following your plan change. If you are changing onto a higher value plan a miscellaneous debit for the difference between your new plan and your existing plan will be charged. If you are changing to a lower value plan, you will not receive a pro rata credit.
        c) Plan change of $16 is charged when the plan change goes ahead

  • +23

It is the Optus network in case anyone was wondering.

    • Thanks!

    • Yes - thanks for that. This info should always be in the title for phone deals. Not all of us live in places covered by all the networks.

  • -1

Why does the starter kit cost money??

    No deal for me.

    • +3

Can you find a better deal?

      • I've found 2 better deals.

amaysim $10 unlimited 4GB data, no upfront sim charge.
Redbull $10 same package as above.

This in last 2 months for me, so yes. I expect a free starter kit to "start" on their services and stay for the long haul if they provide me with a decent service, if not, I'm out.

This is a decent deal but I'm obviously not convinced of this network in my area or in the long run.

        • Yeah, but wasn't the Amaysim the Cudo offer? That was great (I have it now), but you can't really compare in the long term since that was a one-off. Of course I'm also hoping they will have a second and third time…

Also Amaysim is Optus too so if it works for you, so should Liveconnected.

        • +2

So koonit - lets say I want to sign up for Amaysim or Redbull's $10 unlimited plan now. How do I do it?

        • Don't find any similar deals in the companies you mentioned.

        • -2

I didn't say it's not a good deal lads. I'm just an ozbargainer is all. ;)

And yes, the deals mentioned are much better but expired. I'm hoping for another one similar before mid feb.

    • +1

because they have cost-reflective fees = they don't give you freebies up front and they gouge you through time to recover the fixed costs of establishing a new account?!?

    • Most telcos charge the starter fee

      SIM card, delivery, etc

      • +4

Most? Do Telstra, Optus, Carzy Johns, Voda, virgin? That would be most telcos so you can't say that.

    • +2

TPG charge about $40 .. so its not that bad. Think of your cost savings over the long term. (and when i say long term … im sure you'll see savings after 2-3 months!)

      • TPG = $20 Sim Card + $20 call credit.

      • +3

and isn't (insert amount), insurance for going over funds?? i think the money is refunded upon cancellation.

        • yeah, $20 is the amount for that

      • my bad.

    • It used to be refundable, but people complained, then it was no longer refundable.

  • +1

why is everyone so concerned about the $20 fee from these liveconnected deals. Every time they post a deal its the same comments popping up. Would you rather pay $49 a month for this kind of offer?

    • +10

No i would rather pay $12.60 per month including sim card fee just like the woolworths mobile deal which gave you 5BG data and $500 calls.

      This is ozbargain after all

the sim fee is why i dont go with TPG and Liveconnected. It does not cost $20 for a sim and postage.

Make it $12.99 per month and include the bloody sim card

      • +4

woolworths mobile for $29 which expires after 45 days (ie effectively $20 a month)??

        i'll take liveconnected any day…

        • -8

Mate that $29 was Was 50% + 10% off so $12.60. Many people including myself bought a whole years worth so it work out just over $8 per month. Plus it gives 5GB per month of DATA which is worth $30 by itself on the cheapest optus data plan alone.

          So you do the sums

        • +7

The live connected plan is so much better than WW mobile plans.

Woolworths mobile also charges downloads in 1MB increments. Criminal!!!

So 5GB data plan doesn't mean much when you lose 1 MB data for just checking the weather.

T & C states "Data is charged in 1MB increments for uploads and downloads within Australia."

        • +3

So if I want to go and get this $12.60 deal right now, how do I go get it?

        • Many people on the plan know that the 1MB isnt enforced.
The terms and conditions also state that tethering isnt allowed but it works fine for me and i use all the 5GB per month on 2 mobiles on this plan. Total 10GB per month

        • You cant

I just used to woolies deal as an example to show that the $20 simcard charge is excessive.

that was before it got attacked by achw

        • +4

not sure "attacked" is the right word to use…

i don't like the $16 fee for plan changes that liveconnected charges - but their plans are supercheap. i spent more than that on my lunch today…

plus this is an ongoing offer for anyone, unlike the woolies deal (which i didn't know existed until you posted it).

        • Charged in 1mb chunks possibly means that, at the end of the day, it rounds up to the nearest mb.

I say that because Virgin has the same wording and I though "bloody oath, what about their 100mb plan?". But in reality, it doesnt seem to do anything whatsoever. Virgin does NOT count a single webpage with 40 pictures, 5 css templates and the html itself as 46mb for example.

      • +2

        This is REAL OZBARGAIN SPIRIT!

      • I don't think you can tether an iphone on woolworths mobile

        with lc you can

      • that makes no sense at all Obtione. You do realize that by being charged more per month after a period of time you then be paying MORE than if you had just taken the lower price and paid the $20 fee. Assuming you stick with them for atleast a year. Anyway I am a VERY happy customer of theirs so don't see the logic in these kind of comments.

        • +2

Yeah, usually people don't see the negatives of a company until it affects them.
You're lucky to be one of them who are VERY happy with their service, hopefully it'll continue for you :)

        • Thanks I hope so too! I hope it's the same for any ozbargainer that signs up!

  • +2

Isn't this the normal rate for this plan? How about an ozbargain offer?
Is it $16 to change between any plans (i.e. even to a more expensive plan)?
The main page entices you to "try us out" with the Lite.r plan, but if we are happy with the service do we still have to pay $16 to change to one of the (more expensive) tribe plans too?

    • Isn't this the normal rate for this plan? How about an ozbargain offer?

It was upgraded a few days ago(maybe last week), and this is honestly the best value plan out there

Is it $16 to change between any plans (i.e. even to a more expensive plan)?

      Yep

The main page entices you to "try us out" with the Lite.r plan, but if we are happy with the service do we still have to pay $16 to change to one of the (more expensive) tribe plans too?

      (i believe) yes

      • +4

$16 to transfer to a higher paying plan?? Smh, what a ridiculous condition.

  • +1

the liveconnected customer service is piss poor. i was a previous customer but left and moved my business elsewhere , can take up to 2 days for somebody to reply to a request. the prices of their plans are amazing but when i need help with an account i expect better than what they offer customer service wise.

    • +1

I get replies within a few hours. Even still, 2 days is quicker than most other companies…

      • +1

2 days to get through on the phone to get an immediate answer to your questions from most other companies who have a number you can call? You better hope you don't need anything on a weekend because you'll be stuck all weekend.

    • i've never had any problems with their customer support. prompt replies every time

    • It is understandable that some people have bad experiences and good experiences.

In my own experience I have had a good experience with liveconnected. My sim card wasn't working around christmas new years time. I sent an email asking for a new sim card on the 1st of January they promptly replied on the 3nd and they sent me a new sim card and I received it on the 4th of January.

    • You get what you pay for. LC are cheaper than virtually all other providers (with the exception perhaps of TPG who have slightly different startup fees and another set of support 'issues')

LC are the Exetel of the mobile world. Self-service, automation, charge for the work and don't cross subsidise the effective cost of peoples actions (plan starts, plan changes, TIO complaints etc).

    • LC says on their website Looking for a call centre number? Do you really need one? If you are, we're probably not for you.

I have been with them for 2 months now, and it is great, paying $11 a month. I really don't need a call centre, so it is good for me. The only thing I can't stand is how crappy the data is with Optus, half the time I want to use it, it is back to GPRS, if it works at all. As soon as Telstra starts letting MNVOs on their network, I am switching.

  • +1

is the international calls included in the cap?

    • +1

      No, unfortunately they are not.

False of advertising when they say "$500 of Talk & Text to Anyone"

      • +1

if you want international the zen plan is the go (although why you wouldn't use voip or a voip based service like lebara i dont know)

    • No.

I joined LC late last year on the Pioneer plan which was $10.99 for $450 worth of calls and 1.5GB. Haven't check if the call rates are still the same though. Is there any fee for changing from Pioneer to this one? I don't use up all the credits though but I have signed up others who might.

Edit: Found a cached copy of the Pioneer Series III Medium and the call rates are exactly the same.

  • I noticed that a lot of their plans disappear and new plans pop up. If I join up, and this plan no longer exists in a few months down the track, will I still be able to keep the same plan?

I'm paying $10 for my TPG, but getting less than half that amount of calls.

    • Current plan continues until you swap/leave. I am on one from a few years back that is no longer active

      • Not true. I was on the original $5 plan and when they stopped being a reseller of a reseller and became just a straight reseller of Optus they said oh, we have to move you to the new plan which is $3 a month, no choice.

Once they had migrated everyone over, about two weeks later, magic oh magic, the $5 plan reappears. But now it's too late and if you want to move, cough up $16. I'm still with them, but it left a bitter taste in my mouth.

        • if i remember correctly they allowed one free plan change around that time to account for this. Maybe see what they can do for you now? (might be a bit too late though)

  • +2

    BE CAREFUL and BEWARE

I tried them briefly for a month till they terminated my service with 30 days notice after I complained about their faulty data metering system. Their T&C has a one liner clause stating they can cancel any time ….
They claimed it was not my support query I raised but rather their plans are not suitable for me so it is recommend I try another provider.. !!!!! Their support is via email from 24-48 hours, just hopeless.

Be very careful. I am not voting negative because this might me suitable for some.

    • +6

Thats coz if you complained to the TIO they would get fined so they booted you before you could. Pretty funny

    • That's pretty funny, but also terrible if they didn't refund your starter kit cost. I would have complained to the TIO.

    • +2

cool m8 thanks for sharing. it's good to know for us thinking of joining ay

    • The email support would make a massive difference to their bottom line, hence the fact that the plans are cheaper than vodafail with a real network. If you need someone to call then it sounds like their plans aren't suitable for you, hence why you got disconnected

    • exetel does almost the same thing…not defending them but since they are a business and you become a liability they will boot you off.

      • @spawnpoint. Since you mentioned exetel, I am on their $60 broadband plan (200gb download plus free line rental). Could you suggest another provider that is cheaper maybe around $40per month. I do not need free line rental but I need a VOIP access number.

    • -1

Their data metering IS faulty. I have a phone that always has internet turned off and yet I check my account with LC and the meter says I've used small amounts of internet (about 1.5mb a month).

  • +2

I've been considering getting either liveconnected or tpg because they have data unlike vodafone 365 which costs a lot for so little. The problem with liveconnected is they might cancel your service for some lame or no reason given at all according to previous ozbargain comments and posts on whirlpool. hmmm.

    • been with them for ages now. they didn't cancel my service even after i ripped into them about the flash data issue. i think you'll be fine

  • -1

    can't make international calls?

  • "Unlimited Access to certain social networking sites on your mobile.
Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, MySpace, Ebay, Foursquare, Access to Social networking sites must be through the official URL for each of the sites. Access to 3rd party providers or secondary URLs may be charged"

Is this a standard Optus Network thing or exclusive to LiveConnected?

  • Mr Rep, is this a limited time only or a standard new plan?

  • Totally love liveconnected. Great for local calls and smart phones.

  • +3

Hope TPG matches this soon then I can go onto it or something similar.

  • Done.. I change over to liveconnected

    What a great deal!!!! :D

    • +21

THIS IS THE SAME WITH EVERY PHONE PROVIDER, THEY WILL CHARGE YOU IF YOU USE MORE THAT YOUR ALLOCATED QUOTA.

      • +11

I DUNNO WHATS GOING ON, WHY WE ALL TYPE LIKE SH1T?

        • +13

I THINK WE ALL NEED TO WAIT FOR A NEW KEYBOARD DEAL.

        • +11

CAN'T IMAGINE TYPING LIKE THIS IN THAT BLOODY $199 NOTEBOOK

        • stop yelling

        • +5

WE'RE NOT YELLING, OUR KEYBOARDS ARE BROKEN

      • +6

I used to type like this but then I took an arrow to the Knee [CAPS].

    • +3

If You have a smartphone (iphone) use the app "Consume". (maybe availble on android?)
its free and works very well enabling you to keep reasonably close tabs on usage.
I use it for all my family on our telstra accounts.

BTW this LC plan is close to my $49 Telstra plan in benefits, a pretty good deal if used dillegently.
Strangely if i go over my Telstra quota, they also charge me extra…….

      • +1

FOR ANDROID: I would recommend "credit usage" for real time metering on your phone (it can also create filters in the paid app to account for your free LC to LC calls). I also use this in conjunction with QUOTA (which just logs into your LC account and tells your usage based on their logging (only a day or so behind usually).

    • +1

Just be weary about great sounding deals, you need to read the terms of any company you use, you adhere to any fees if you use their service. That's not an excuse to go around neging their ads…

    • The only negative comments are coming from you and a few people. I've never had any issues and when I did it was promptly resolved.
