    • you do

    • but i don't think it's on third party apps
so you have to access it via the browser

      • What about via the official facebook app?

        • I'm not sure, but i'm pretty sure it won't work

    • Be careful with free social, don't take it too literally because some of the free social pages drag in content from non-free sites.

How come the REP hasn't replied to a single question on this deal?
If you are going to promote your standard plans on ozbargain at least you could answer some of the questions.
Perhaps he will reply within 24-48 hours! hehehe

Coz he works for Exetel's customer service department in his spare time….

Would be nice to see the rep respond, he did on this (http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/51131) deal and even waived the $20 startup cost

  • Just signed up for this exact deal, except it's $15 a month and a 24 month contract. Thanks a lot Exetel and your "exlusive" members only deal.

  • this is a perfect example of how they operate , very slow to reply to people , you will get a reply but you may have to wait for i,t and try find a phone number to call them on !!

    • There contact page does say:

"Looking for a call centre number?
      Do you really need one?
If you are, we're probably not for you."

Cant really say they don't warn you.

I've been with liveconnected for about 8 months now on a plan that suits my phone usage. Excellent value for money. I've not had to use their customer service but am realistic and don't expect an immediate response to possible questions from a company that probably only has a few support staff instead of an army, and can therefore pass the operational savings onto the customer in the form of these value plans. What I also like about them is that they send you an update email mid month on your usage for the month so far. A big plus from me..

  • think its time to leave Optus then. been paying $29 a month for 250mb of data and hardly any call credit for too long. been out of contract about 18 months. only good thing about Optus is $10 movie tix.

  • It's a good service if things work well. Only had one issue at the very start where internet was not enabled.
As others have pointed out, they change their plans all the damn time. I'm currently on $400 for $15 but can now get $500 for $11. I guess it's time to switch over. (\I waited on the first upgrade offer of $450 for $11 as I thought they would soon one-up that which they now have :)

  • I've been with LiveConnected for a month now, and so far they have been fantastic. I had an issue with the service at one point, and followed up with an email that was replied to an less than 2 hours. Subsequent responses followed in a number of minutes.

I'm on the $15.99 plan, just for reference.

  • +1

I dont like their $20 per phone starter fee, or their $16 plan change fee no matter what with new tempting plans every few months and have had 1 issue with their data usage recording but have gone with them for 4 services due to plan value. Came from tpg.. Also have 2 amysim services (only $2 sim startup)

    • 6+ mobile services, how many do you have!

  • I can't say I have had any problems with their service the Optus network isn't ideal it has no signal in some areas I go to.

  • +2

Be aware this company may cancel your service at any time without any warning or reason. This has happened to me and at least one other user on OzB.

Hopefully they have improved their service these days.

  • worthwhile to switch from the amaysim $39 unlimited plan to this one? This one you get the 1300 and 13 numbers… what do people reckon?

    • Check out LC's Zen 35 plan. It gives 4,000 minutes of calls for $35.

  • +3

I would steer clear of this service. I have been with them for 3+ months on the $15.99 plan. To start, it took 6 days to get there service activated resulting in me paying for 2 services for one month. Second, it took them 6 weeks to activate my voicemail. Second, they cut me off on Christmas day and 2 days again later for 48 hours, as I did not change my default payment method of which i did not know anything about to automatic payment, rather then Bar my service when this occured. 3rd, Now that I have set up automatic withdrawl to steer clear of being being disconnected they withdrew $390 for last month saying I went over my data allowance, with I monitor very closely. I have read elsewhere they make data usage mistakes on the regular. 4th, their customer service when they do reply is very rude and have zero sense of compromise. 5th, my flatmate is on Optus and my internet and partners (she is on Livecoonected as well) gets disconnected every other hour and his works fine. It may save you $10-$15 a month, but when you get disconnected and have no one to call, especially if it is a weekend as they only reply mon-fri then you will wish you were with anyone else. Hope that helps, I promise I am not bitter..ha ha…..

    • +1

Yes, what you have experienced with LC seems to have happened to quite a number of OzB users.

      • Have a look at past deals for LC to see what can happen when you overspend. Buyer beware.

  • I don't get how this is getting so many positives. I signed up to this plan: http://liveconnected.com.au/index.php/component/zoo/item/pio… about 4 or so months back. Only difference is this one gets $50 more credit to anyone and liveconnected customers.

Worth 65 + votes, not really, just standard price.

    • agree, when i saw liveconnected i got so excited because i thought i can get myself a better deal than what i thought was a pretty good deal already. Then i realised all they've changed was add 50 more credit. Why do they even make a new one?

    • Must be getting desperate as they lose customers who find out all their negatives, apart from those they boot off for no good reason.

  • +1

I think it's very important to remind those who think of signing up for this deal is that call rates are quite expensive:
Voice and video call rate (per minute) 90c
    Flagfall 35c
In other words, $500 might not be such a good value as one would think.

    • +1

same as any other regular postpaid plan, telstra, optus, vodafone have almost the same rates

  • +1

Best thing since Woolies mobile ½price deal?
Only problem with postpaid is the high excess usage charges. I don't want to be one of those guys posting a sob-story on Whirlpool.

    • +2

if you can't monitor your phone usage, you don't deserve to be on postpaid. It is the exact reason postpaid was introduced, to gouge clumsy, clueless and careless people. Of course it can happen to anyone but not regularly

    • If you have an android phone get the app myUsage then you will always be aware of how much data you've used. There would be a similar app on iPhone too.
Plus they send you your usage information mid-month, so I find it difficult to imagine going over as long as you're smart about it.
Been with LC since October and loving the amount I'm saving. I'm aware if I encounter any issues (hasnt happened yet) I may not get the most prompt customer service, but IMO the savings outweigh the risk and you're not locked in any contract anyway if things were to go pear shaped.

  • I just got my partner onto Liveconnected about a month ago. Have to say they are absolutely fantastic - I am on telstra so it's not really for me but it's definitely the best Optus based deal out there. I really love the $20 overage limit - all the other telcos will be happy to charge you $5,000 if something goes wrong and you go over. With liveconnected you get barred by default if you get up to $20 in charges. So many people get taken for a ride these days by telcos because they don't understand how to properly manage their call and data usage, this feature of the plan is so good that I think I might get my mum onto it. Great substitute for prepaid.

    • The prob with the bar feature is that your LC usage records are sometimes not updated for more than 48 hours and by that time you may have used far more than $20 in excess.

      • still better than the $1000 you might get for those oversea roaming charges that whirlpool is so famous for

        • +1

I don't get the whirlpool reference (sorry I don't use whirlpool much).

  • -3

Id like to know why my negitive has been removed?… has Ozbargain sold out to a telco?

  • Is there a usage meter you can get for an iphone to keep an eye on the data and call limits?

  • How is Optus for use with smartphones these days? (compared with Telstra and in the Melbourne metro area)

  • Can the Talk value to Live Connected be used to other numbers on the Optus network?

    • +1

Unfortunately not only for LC numbers. Also the caps are separated, for example if you use up you're free LC to LC credit it won't start using your other credit allowance. It will bill you excess so if you have alot if friends or fam on lc you need to be careful of this.

      • Thanks. Then probably won't go for it…. since none of my friends and family are with LC ;(

  • no international.. that's why i'm on TPG.. nothing beats $15 with $550 that includes international.. and their international call rates are cheaper too

  • The page does not mention billing increment for calls, so I'm assuming it's 60 secs. If you make a lot of short calls, then you'll get much less value out of LC plans compared to those that charge per 30 secs. Overall a bargain plan but may not be suitable for everyone.

    • Can anyone confirm billing increments?

      • Billed per 60 seconds

  • just bought this plan (thanks poster), switching from amaysim cos i'm getting sick of not having 13,1300,1800 numbers. once i got stuck on the side of the road and i can't call RACQ because I can't call 13 numbers..

my amaysim account recharged about 2 days ago, so does this plan kick in next month when my amaysim runs out or does amaysim refund me for the rest of the month? or am i paying both accounts for this month?

    • Do you expect the 2 companies to work around you?

    • You can request to delay your port via self service so make sure to do that as soon as you receive your sim card.

  • +1

international calls not included… that's why I went with TPG. Also TPG I can call home for free unlimited =D

  • I love how these deals give you $500 worth of calls, which sounds like a lot, but then charge 90c/min!! for a call.

    • +1

How much to other telcos charge?
I had a look at some Vodafone, Optus and Virgin BYO, most are around 90c/min ….

      • Some charge 10c/ min or Hello Mobile charge 29c flat fee.

      • +4

I'm not saying it's just this mob. It's a common theme with all the providers. "Look at the millions of dollars of value we're giving you!!"

We aren't getting $500 worth of calls for $11. We are getting $11 worth of calls. Just wish they'd call a spade a spade.

      • Yeh I agree with the whole telcos exaggerating the values. Its really up to yourself to research what you need and what plan suits your needs.

Although Hello Mobile call charge is 29c flat fee, their data rate is 3c/mb (Supa Plan), 200mb of data = $6? About $1 more than my current LC plan, which includes $150 calls to anyone and 200mb of data.
I dont call much so Im happy.

    • Most carriers charge 90c/min these days. But I agree its definitely a marketing ploy - if you were to say your plan had $50 worth of value and call rates were 9c/min it would be essentially the same, but doesn't sound as enticing.
I got bored one day at work and did a spreadsheet comparing different plans included call value, and how much minutes this equates to based on the flagfall and call rate. LC came out on top, so I made the switch.

  • are these dudes any good?

    • +4

It might be your first day here, but learn to read the thread before asking stupid questions. There are a lot of opinions already offered.

  • +7

For those who complain about the $20 starter fee, if you spread the cost over the period of time, then it becomes negligble the longer you stay with them. Say you keep them for 24 months then the starter kit fee would only be around 83 cents a month.

Keep in mind, you're probably saving around $15-$30 a month already if you had a similar plan with another telco. Quit whining.

    • hear hear!

    • agreed

      good ol maths in action

  • -1

This specific promotion couldn't be of lesser value to we smart cookies who organised our prepaids in the 2nd quarter of this financial year.

Indeed, the Woolworths optus prmo we just had from Xmas worked out (12.60/45) 28 cents/day this one is 37 cents and with one gbyte to offer provides almost no data in comparison to the supermarket special.

I am astonished 100 OZb's give this support, though I discount the value of all '13/1300 number' calls as these are just as viable by using VoIP.

    • +5

Some of us would rather just sign up to a plan, get some good value and not have to worry about firing up VOIP for certain numbers, or dividing dollars by days to get cents per days and then compare it with another one.

Good luck if you do and more power to you. Just like I can't be stuffed building my own computers anymore, so I just buy Macs and use it.

    • +4

with LC, i pay $10.99 per month, and get more call credit + data than i ever use in a calendar month. this to me is worth the extra 9 cents per day.

the woolworths mobile debacle is just ridiculous in comparison.

    • +2

Oh, but as a smart cookie have you considered the interest you have not earned in stocking up at Woolies?

Don't forget LiveConnected let you pay via CC (including Amex!) without surcharge (as do Woolies) also giving you up to 55 days extra interest free.

If you take this into account it could dramatically alter the equation. You may find that this only costs 34 cents a day. So many factors to consider.

      • woolies recharge lasts 45 days. Take that into your equation! :)

        • not to mention '5GB' /'1.5GB' =233% more data..In lieu of overcharges:)ho ho ho

        • I really don't think normal users will use even the 1.5GB. So 5GB is overkill here. Plus the fact that it is not available anymore?

Also those 5GB are billed per MB compared to per kb for LC. Big difference right there if you have shit load of widgets.

        • Yeah true .. this is one of the better plans available.

          ..I just love my prepaid.

  • Live connected and TPG = single band 3G @ 2100mhz. It's ok most of the time if the dropouts and unable to get a decent 3G signal does not bother you much. I have used TPG and Virgin Mobile at the same time, I even exchanged sim+ phone combinations. Single band 2100mhz 3G just drops out more and it is harder to get a decent connection.

2100mhz spectrum is crowded with users, it is also less penetrating (indoors and foliage) than 900mhz and 850mhz. That is why it is cheap.

To be honest TPGs 3G connection makes vodafail look like Telstra, and I do not expect more from LC

    • I thought TPG also uses Optus 900mhz 3G towers as well?

      • They do not

        http://www.tpg.com.au/mobile/coverage.php

TPG provides mobile coverage by means of 3 separate mobile spectrum frequencies in Australia. Please choose a network compatible handset in order to use your device effectively with one of our plans:

        • Dual band network - 96% population coverage
        • 3G single band network - 80% population coverage
        • 2G Network - 96% population coverage

        Dual Band (2100MHz/900MHz)
Being able to connect with 3G and 2G technologies using your mobile phone with fast speeds using 3G technology or just by simply making calls and sending SMS, the Dual band network offers a wide variety of services such as wireless broadband, internet browsing. With the right mobile phone the World is at your finger tips.

For more information or to view coverage maps click here .

        3G Network (Single Band 2100MHz)
More than just your standard mobile service, the 3G Network also allows users to do things such as wireless broadband, internet browsing, checking emails, downloading songs from third party websites. The 3G network covers 80% of the Australian population, making it ideal for users who live in major metropolitan areas of Australia.

When outside the 3G coverage areas, users can still access the 2G Network to send and receive voice and sms messages.

For more information or to view coverage maps click here .

        2G Network (Single Band 900MHz)
This Network is great for people who just want to be able to make and receive calls and sms messages. The 2G network covers 96% of the Australian population, making it ideal for users who live or travel to regional areas of Australia.

For more information or to view coverage maps click here .

        • I think you have misinterpreted this page.

It is saying that the bands available to you will depend on what type of phone you have. If your phone supports only 2100Mhz then you will only get the 2100Mz coverage.

As it says at the start:

"Please choose a network compatible handset in order to use your device effectively with one of our plans".

  • I have a scenario I need answered. I'm currently on the older 10.99 plan (missed it by 1 week!). In 3 weeks I am planning to go to South America for approx. 3 months and will not need my sim card during that time. I could save ~33 dollars. Does anyone know if I can simply cancel my sim card by giving 30 days notice now and then re-connect upon my return without paying $20 for a sim card I already have??? Do I need to port my number to another mobile to keep my number alive? And does that mean I could port out twice to avoid paying a 16 dollar upgrade fee?

    • If you cancel your service and port out your number then you will almost definitely have to pay the $20 SIM card charge once you wish to reconnect to LC (they will send you out a new SIM card).

My honest advice would be to leave your service connected to LC while you are away and just wear the $33 and $16 plan change fee. I have dealt with LC before and they have made multiple mistakes with certain actions on my account. It's not worth saving a measly $33 for the effort and risk involved.

Yes, if you cancel your service and wish to keep your current number you will need to port out to another service, eg. amaysim, while you are away. This is where there is risk involved. LC advise that when porting out your number you do it at least 7 days before the end of the 30 day notice period, as to limit the possibility of losing your number.

      • +1

I'm fairly certain you can suspend your service while you are away.
Yep just searched: http://liveconnected.com.au/index.php/features its called "holiday mode"
"Why pay whilst you're overseas on holidays? We'll put your service on standby so its ready for you when you get back."

I would inquire with LC about this.
